Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following pages are meant for those who wish to use thyristors. The details of the physics of semiconductor materials or the design of thyristors themselves are unnecessary here but a general description of the device may help to avoid pitfalls during electric circuit design. Thyristor is the internationally recognized name for a particular semi conductor device. The name is derived from the Greek, the first part meaning switch and the second part an association with the transistor family. It has a trade name, viz. SCR (silicon controlled rectifier) and it got this name principally because it is a silicon device and it is used as a rectifier which can be controlled. As a controlled switch it forms a group together with the electromagnetic relay, the thyratron and the mercury arc rectifier. The advantages and disadvantages of the thyristor become apparent in the process of describing the device and its range of application. However, the present general interest, development and use of the thyristor, indicates that for many cases its many advantages make it superior to other devices. Control of rotating electric machines is a major interest of the author so that in this book the applications of the thyristor are towards this end. Thyristors are used so much in connection with the control of machines that it is worthwhile to go into some details of both the electric drive to be controlled and the possible thyristor control units.

Book Electrotechnical Systems

Download or read book Electrotechnical Systems written by Igor Korotyeyev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in mathematical methods, computer technology, and electrotechnical devices in particular continue to result in the creation of programs that are leading to increased labor productivity. Mathematical and simulation programs—and other programs that unite these two operations—provide the ability to calculate transitional, steady-state processes, stability conditions, and harmonic composition, and are often used to analyze processes in power electronic systems. Electrotechnical Systems: Calculation and Analysis with Mathematica and PSpice explores the potential of two such programs—Mathematica and ORCAD (PSpice)—as they are used for analysis in various areas. The authors discuss the formulation of problems and the steps in their solution. They focus on the analysis of transient, steady-state processes and their stability in non-stationary and nonlinear systems with DC and AC converters. All problems are solved using Mathematica, and program codes are presented. The authors use ORCAD (PSpice) to compare the results obtained by employing Mathematica and to demonstrate the peculiarities associated with its use. This book clearly and concisely illustrates represented expressions, variables, and functions and the general application of the mathematical pocket Mathematica 4.2 for the analysis of the electromagnetic processes in electrotechnical systems. It will be a valuable addition to the library of anyone working with electrotechnical systems.

Book Microprocessor Based Control Systems

Download or read book Microprocessor Based Control Systems written by N.K. Sinha and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in LSI technology and the consequent availability of inexpensive but powerful microprocessors have already affected the process control industry in a significant manner. Microprocessors are being increasingly utilized for improving the performance of control systems and making them more sophisticated as well as reliable. Many concepts of adaptive and learning control theory which were considered impractical only 20 years ago are now being implemented. With these developments there has been a steady growth in hardware and software tools to support the microprocessor in its complex tasks. With the current trend of using several microprocessors for performing the complex tasks in a modern control system, a great deal of emphasis is being given to the topic of the transfer and sharing of information between them. Thus the subject of local area networking in the industrial environment has become assumed great importance. The object of this book is to present both hardware and software concepts that are important in the development of microprocessor-based control systems. An attempt has been made to obtain a balance between theory and practice, with emphasis on practical applications. It should be useful for both practicing engineers and students who are interested in learning the practical details of the implementation of microprocessor-based control systems. As some of the related material has been published in the earlier volumes of this series, duplication has been avoided as far as possible.

Book Automatic Control of Converter Fed Drives

Download or read book Automatic Control of Converter Fed Drives written by M.P. Kazmierkowski and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the reader in a systematical way to the design philosophy behind vector control systems. The mathematical motor models based on complex-space vector descriptions as well as the control structures for DC motors provide a perfect basis for explaining the principles of AC motor vector control. An in-depth review of electromagnetic transients in induction motors under various methods of frequency control is given. This is explained with the help of appropriate block schemes and new equivalent circuits. Properties of AC motors under non-sinusoidal supply are reviewed. The basic power converter topologies applied in motor control technology as well as symmetry and loss reduction problems are discussed. Some examples of controller design methods are presented step by step. An important feature of the book is that it contains many examples of systems applied in practical engineering as well as simulation and experimental results. The volume will be of interest to all those familiar with the basics of electrical machines and control systems theory. Therefore, it is recommended to students of electrical, electronics and mechanics departments. The book can also be used by those working in industry, who are interested in modern power electronics, drives and motion control, robotics as well as automation of industrial processes.
