Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the Top Selling Physics Books according to YBP Library Services Suitable for graduate students, experienced researchers, and experts, this book provides a state-of-the-art review of the non-relativistic theory of high-energy ion-atom collisions. Special attention is paid to four-body interactive dynamics through the most important theoretical methods available to date by critically analyzing their foundation and practical usefulness relative to virtually all the relevant experimental data. Fast ion-atom collisions are of paramount importance in many high-priority branches of science and technology, including accelerator-based physics, the search for new sources of energy, controlled thermonuclear fusion, plasma research, the earth’s environment, space research, particle transport physics, therapy of cancer patients by heavy ions, and more. These interdisciplinary fields are in need of knowledge about many cross sections and collisional rates for the analyzed fast ion-atom collisions, such as single ionization, excitation, charge exchange, and various combinations thereof. These include two-electron transitions, such as double ionization, excitation, or capture, as well as simultaneous electron transfer and ionization or excitation and the like—all of which are analyzed in depth in this book. Quantum Theory of High-Energy Ion-Atom Collisions focuses on multifaceted mechanisms of collisional phenomena with heavy ions and atoms at non-relativistic high energies.

Download or read book Introduction To High energy Heavy ion Collisions written by Cheuk-yin Wong and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-09-30 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written primarily for researchers and graduate students who are new in this emerging field, this book develops the necessary tools so that readers can follow the latest advances in this subject. Readers are first guided to examine the basic informations on nucleon-nucleon collisions and the use of the nucleus as an arena to study the interaction of one nucleon with another. A good survey of the relation between nucleon-nucleon and nucleus-nucleus collisions provides the proper comparison to study phenomena involving the more exotic quark-gluon plasma. Properties of the quark-gluon plasma and signatures for its detection are discussed to aid future searches and exploration for this exotic matter. Recent experimental findings are summarised.

This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Procedures for the approximation of the transport of high-energy ions are discussed on the basis of available data on ion nuclear reactions. A straightahead approximation appears appropriate for space applications. The assumption that the secondary-ion-fragment velocity is equal to that of the fragmenting nucleus is inferior to straightahead theory but is of sufficient accuracy if the primary ions display a broad energy spectrum. An iterative scheme for the solution of the inhomogenous integral transport equations holds promise for practical calculation. A model calculation shows that multiple charged ion fragments penetrate to greater depths in comparison with the free path of a primary heavy ion. Wilson, J. W. Download or read book Green s Function Methods in Heavy Ion Shielding written by John William Wilson and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytic solution to the heavy ion transport equation in terms of Green's function is used to generate a highly efficient computer code for space applications. The efficiency of the computer code is accomplished by a nonperturbative technique extending Green's function over the solution domain. The computer code can also be applied to accelerator boundary conditions to allow code validation in laboratory experiments.

Download or read book Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors written by H. François and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 1119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors is a collection of papers that covers various aspects of solid state nuclear track detectors. The book presents 130 articles that cover the concerns in the mechanisms, operations, and applications of solid state nuclear track detectors. The materials in the text are thematically grouped into three parts. The book first discusses the fundamental mechanisms, which include determination of the screening parameter from measurements of differential energy loss and atomic displacement effects from heavy ion induced coulomb explosion. Next, the selection presents articles that deal with the methodology of detectors, such as experimental track widths of low energy heavy ions in nuclear emulsion and structure of light nuclei tracks. The remaining papers cover the fields of applications, such as nuclear fusion; prospection of radioactive and fissionable minerals; dosimetry; and autoradiography. The book will be of great use to researchers and practitioners of disciplines related to nuclear science.
