Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this conference came from a meeting of the IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) Technical Committee for Information Systems (TC8) in Guimares, Portugal in June 2005. Our goal is to build an IFIP forum among the different Information Systems Communities of TC8 dealing with the increasing important area of Enterprise Information Systems. In this particular meeting the committee members intensively discussed the innovative and unique characteristics of Enterprise Information Systems as scientific sub-discipline. Hence, in this meeting it was decided by the TC8 members that the IFIP TC8 First International Conference on Research and Practical Issues of Enterprise Information Systems (CONFENIS 2006) would be held in April 2006 in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Li Xu (USA) and Dr. A Min Tjoa (IFIP TC8) were assigned to propose a concept for this conference in order to establish an IFIP platform for EIS researchers and practitioners in the field to share experience, and discussing opportunities and challenges. We are very pleased therefore to have this conference organised by the help of the Austrian Computer Society (OCG). OCG supports the idea of this conference due to the urgent need of research and dissemination of new techniques in this key area. We received 180 papers from more than 30 countries for CONFENIS and the Program Committee eventually selected xx papers or extended abstracts, making an acceptance rate of xx% of submitted papers. Each paper was thoroughly reviewed by at least two qualified reviewers.

This book was released on 1988 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this case study was to examine the implementation of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II). This study identified several critical prerequisites for MRP II success. These lessons were considered key issues and fell into three categories, referred to as critical elements: People, Data, and Technical. The issues associated with the People Element included management support, education, project team membership, and employee resistance to change. The Data Element contained the issues of bill of material, inventory records, routings, labor standards, work centers, and work control documents. A significant amount of effort was devoted to developing and accurate data base. This relationship between maintenance and supply will be critical to the program's success. The final element, Technical, dealt with system design and software selection as well as the pilot project issue. The selection of a commercial vendor and off-the-shelf software was lengthy and detailed. Theses. (jhd).

Book Manufacturing Systems Design and Analysis

Download or read book Manufacturing Systems Design and Analysis written by B. Wu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A technological book is written and published for one of two reasons: it either renders some other book in the same field obsolete or breaks new ground in the sense that a gap is filled. The present book aims to do the latter. On my return from industry to an academic career, I started writing this book because I had seen that a gap existed. Although a great deal of information appeared in the published literature about various technical aspects of advanced manufacturing technology (AMT), surprisingly little had been written about the systems con text within which the sophisticated hardware and software of AMT are utilized to increase efficiency. Therefore, I have attempted in this book to show how structured approaches in the design and evaluation of modern manufacturing plant may be adopted, with the objective of improving the performance of the factory as a whole. I hope this book will be a contribution to the newly recognized, multidisciplinary engineering function known as manufacturing sys tems engineering. The text has been designed specifically to demonstrate the systems aspects of modern manufacturing operations, including: systems con cepts of manufacturing operation; manufacturing systems modelling and evalua tion; and the structured design of manufacturing systems~ One of the major difficulties associated with writing a text of this nature stems from the diversity of the topics involved. I have attempted to solve this problem by adopting an overall framework into which the relevant topics are fitted.

Book excerpt: Advanced Topics in Global Information Management is a series of books that examine global information management (GIM), and its research and implications. GIM research continues to progress, with some scholars pushing the boundaries of thinking and others challenging the status quo. Advanced Topics in Global Information Management, Volume 5 is a part of this series. Advanced Topics in Global Information Management, Volume 5 discusses how many businesses exist in a global environment. Whether they are large or small companies, they may have suppliers or customers that reside in different geographical locations. The ability to function in this global environment has been facilitated by the use of information technology. Through research projects, this book addresses the ability of both large and small business, and government, from the national level to local level, to function in altered environments by using information technology. In all of these situations, both businesses and governments must be able to function and respond to various stakeholders by adopting the appropriate, and necessary, cultural perspective.

Book The Use of ERP in Practice Benefits and Challenges

Download or read book The Use of ERP in Practice Benefits and Challenges written by Nadiia Kudriashova and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-02-06 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2017 in the subject Computer Science - General, grade: MA, , language: English, abstract: The purpose of the work is to analyze the key factors of the successful implementation of ERP-systems within the framework of the problem of interaction between management, employees of the company, and the external environment. In the course of the research, the following were conducted: analysis of the ERP system market, identification of the main trends, problems and prospects; highlighting the main advantages and disadvantages of implementing ERP-system in the enterprise; analysis of approaches to assessing the cost-effectiveness of implementing the ERP-system; generalization of ERP system implementation experience at specific enterprises, evaluation of implementation efficiency; development of recommendations for replicating the ERP-system in accordance with the analysis. As a result of the research, it was found that the implementation of ERP-systems is an expensive and resource-intensive process that distracts the management and production personnel of the company from the main activity for a long time. In this connection, studies of mechanisms for reducing these costs and overcoming resistance to change are relevant. The typification of the implementation of ERP-systems is expected to reduce the negative factors.

Book Practice of Petri Nets in Manufacturing

Download or read book Practice of Petri Nets in Manufacturing written by F. Dicesare and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: M. Silva Significant changes have been occurring in industrialized countries since the Second World War. Production is moving towards sophisticated high qUality products, economy of scale has been replaced by economy of scope, jerky demands are progressively replacing steady demands, and competi tiveness is becoming a worldwide phenomenon. These trends require highly automated manufacturing systems with small set-up times and high flex ibility. As a consequence, implementation and running costs of modem manufacturing systems are drastically increasing, whereas their fields of application remain limited, and every day become even narrower, which increases the risk of early obsolescence. This is the reason why designers are trying to improve the preliminary design phase, also known as the 'paper study phase'. The preliminary design phase includes, but is not limited to, the func tional specification, and the evaluation of the system. Many tools exist to support the functional specification of manufactur ing systems. IDEFO is one of these tools. It leads, using a top-down ap proach, to a precise functional description of the required system. However, its use cannot be extended further. In general, the evaluation starts with a modeling step, which depends on the evaluation tool used, and ends by applying the model to find out its main dynamic characteristics. Two main approaches can be used to perform this task, namely simulation and math ematical approach. Using simulation, the modeling tool is either a classical computer language, or a simulation language.
