Book Stress and Strain Distributions in a Thick walled Cylinder of Strain hardening Material Elastic plastically Strained by Internal Pressure

Download or read book Stress and Strain Distributions in a Thick walled Cylinder of Strain hardening Material Elastic plastically Strained by Internal Pressure written by Chang Keng Liu and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An attempt is made to extend Allen and Sopwith's solution for an elastic-plastic thick-walled cylinder of ideally plastic material to strain-hardening material. Tresca's criterion of yielding is modified so that the effective stress (usually considered a function of the effective strain) is proportional to a simple power function of the radius in the plastic zone. An analysis of Allen and Sopwith's solution for ideally plastic material seems to support and justify the proposed modification of the yielding criterionZ The exponent of the power function is taken as -3/2, -5/4, 1, and -1/2, in each case yielding an analytic solution corresponding to a particular strain-hardening material. Examples worked are for the case of plane strain and for a ratio of outer to inner radii of 2. 0. When the exponent is taken to be zero, the solution becomes identical to that of Allen and Sopwith. For exponents other than the five mentioned above, numerical or graphical methods of integration may be used.

Book Circular Cylinders and Pressure Vessels

Download or read book Circular Cylinders and Pressure Vessels written by Vincenzo Vullo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-29 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive coverage of stress and strain analysis of circular cylinders and pressure vessels, one of the classic topics of machine design theory and methodology. Whereas other books offer only a partial treatment of the subject and frequently consider stress analysis solely in the elastic field, Circular Cylinders and Pressure Vessels broadens the design horizons, analyzing theoretically what happens at pressures that stress the material beyond its yield point and at thermal loads that give rise to creep. The consideration of both traditional and advanced topics ensures that the book will be of value for a broad spectrum of readers, including students in postgraduate, and doctoral programs and established researchers and design engineers. The relations provided will serve as a sound basis for the design of products that are safe, technologically sophisticated, and compliant with standards and codes and for the development of innovative applications.

Book Inelastic Behavior of Thick Walled Cylinders Made of Strain Hardening Materials

Download or read book Inelastic Behavior of Thick Walled Cylinders Made of Strain Hardening Materials written by and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An effective incremental theory was developed for solving the problem of partially yielded, thick-walled cylinders made of strain-hardening materials subjected to any combination of internal pressure, external pressure, and end loading. The theory developed in the Research Directorate, U.S. Army Weapons Command, includes Prandtl-Reuss' incremental stress-strain laws, Von Mises' flow criterion, and the strain-hardening and compressibility properties of a material. Since the consideration of stress and strain history is involved in the analysis, the present theory is particularly suitable for predicting stress and strain distribution, and location of the elastic-plastic boundary of a thick-walled cylinder subjected to nonproportionate loading.

Book Structural Analysis

Download or read book Structural Analysis written by O. A. Bauchau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-08-03 with total page 943 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors and their colleagues developed this text over many years, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in structural analysis courses at the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering of the Georgia Institute of Technology. The emphasis is on clarity and unity in the presentation of basic structural analysis concepts and methods. The equations of linear elasticity and basic constitutive behaviour of isotropic and composite materials are reviewed. The text focuses on the analysis of practical structural components including bars, beams and plates. Particular attention is devoted to the analysis of thin-walled beams under bending shearing and torsion. Advanced topics such as warping, non-uniform torsion, shear deformations, thermal effect and plastic deformations are addressed. A unified treatment of work and energy principles is provided that naturally leads to an examination of approximate analysis methods including an introduction to matrix and finite element methods. This teaching tool based on practical situations and thorough methodology should prove valuable to both lecturers and students of structural analysis in engineering worldwide. This is a textbook for teaching structural analysis of aerospace structures. It can be used for 3rd and 4th year students in aerospace engineering, as well as for 1st and 2nd year graduate students in aerospace and mechanical engineering.

Book A Simple Approach for Determination of Bursting Pressure of a Thick Walled Cylinder

Download or read book A Simple Approach for Determination of Bursting Pressure of a Thick Walled Cylinder written by S. C. Chu and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By using the true-stress true-strain relation, a simple finite-strain incompressible analytical solution technique is developed to predict pressure deformation relations up to the failure of thick-walled cylinders subjected to internal pressure. The material is assumed to be an isotropic hardening material that obeys the von Mises yield condition. The flow law for the material incorporates the Prandtl-Reuss stress-strain relations and a loading function represented by the true-stress versus true-strain diagram. Poisson's ratio is assumed to be equal to one-half for both elastic and plastic strains. The bursting pressure for thick-walled cylinders made of either SAE 1045 steel or copper is presented graphically for various ratios of outer and inner radii of undeformed cylinders. The true location of inner surface of cylinders made of both metals at various pressure levels was determined and presented graphically. Pressure expansion curves for cylinders made of SAE 1045 steel and OFHC copper are presented. (Author).

Book Applied Stress Analysis

Download or read book Applied Stress Analysis written by T.H. Hyde and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume records the proceedings of an international conference organised as a tribute to the contribution made by Professor H. Fessler over the whole of his pro fessionallife, in the field of applied stress analysis. The conference, held at the Univer sity of Nottingham on 30 and 31 August 1990, was timed to coincide with the date of his formal retirement from the post of Professor of Experimental Stress Analysis in the University. The idea grew from discussions between some of Professor Fessler's academic associates from Nottingham and elsewhere. An organising committee was set up, and it was decided to invite contributions to the conference in the form of review papers and original research papers in the field of experimental, theoretical and computational stress analysis. The size of the response, both in papers submitted and in attendance at the conference, indicates that the idea proved attractive to many of his peers, former associates and research students. A bound copy of the volume is to be presented to Professor Fessler at the conference dinner on 30 August 1990.
