Book Bipropellant Engine Plume Contamination Program Volume 2 Chamber Measurements Phase 2

Download or read book Bipropellant Engine Plume Contamination Program Volume 2 Chamber Measurements Phase 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bipropellant rocket engine plume contamination test program was conducted in the AEDC Aerospace Chamber (10V). A 5-lbf-thrust rocket engine, burning MMH as the fuel and N2O4 as the oxidizer, was operated over a range of engine operating parameters in a cryogenically pumped vacuum chamber where the background pressure was maintained below 0.00001 torr. Using the electron beam fluorescence technique, species number densities and rotational temperature were measured in both the forward- and back-flow region of the plume exhaust. Additionally, Mie scattering measurements were performed for the forward-flow regions of the plume exhaust.

Book Biopropellant Engine Plume Contamination Program Volume 1 Chamber Measurements Phase 1

Download or read book Biopropellant Engine Plume Contamination Program Volume 1 Chamber Measurements Phase 1 written by R. E. Alt and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental program to measure the mass flux in the backflow region of a 5-lbf bipropellant thruster at angles up to 147 deg with respect to the plume centerline using temperature-controlled and temperature-compensated quartz crystal microbalances (QCM'S) is presented. The measurements were conducted in a high vacuum cryogenic chamber (Aerospace Chamber 10V) at AEDC. Gaseous helium and liquid helium cryopanels provided a blank-off pressure in the ten to the minus 6th power torr range and maintained the background pressure in the ten to the minus 5th power torr range while pulse firing the motor (25- to 100-msec pulse width, 1- to 10-percent duty cycle). Chamber recovery time was a few tenths of a second. Several motor configurations and operating conditions were compared for potential contamination effects.

Book Contamination Measurements from a 5 Lb Sub F Thrust Bipropellant Engine Phase II

Download or read book Contamination Measurements from a 5 Lb Sub F Thrust Bipropellant Engine Phase II written by R. E. Alt and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Bipropellant Rocket Engine plume contamination test program was conducted in the Aerospace Chamber (10V) between Sept. 25 and Oct. 20, 1978. During the four week test period a 5- lb sub F thrust rocket engine was fired over a range of engine operating parameters in a cryogenically pumped vacuum chamber where the background pressure was maintained below 1 x .0000001 torr. A vidicon image intensifier coupled spectrometer (VICS) system was used in conjunction with an electron beam to make number density and rotational temperature measurements of gas species (N2, CO, CO2, and H2/H20) in the forward flow region of the rocket nozzle. A photomultiplier tube was used in place of the vidicon to make number density and temperature measurements of N2 in the plume backflow region. Forward flow laser light scattering measurements were made with the VICS system to characterize the particle size and particle number distributions in the plume core. Mass flux measurements were made in the plume backflow region (60 degrees-135 degrees off axis) with cryogenically cooled quartz crystal microbalances (QCM's). (Author).

Book Plume Contamination Effects Prediction The CONTAM Computer Program Program User s Manual

Download or read book Plume Contamination Effects Prediction The CONTAM Computer Program Program User s Manual written by R. J. Hoffman and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of rocket exhaust plume impingement on sensitive vehicle surfaces is an area of continuing concern in the design of spacecraft, missiles, and reentry vehicle systems. The objective of the study was to develop a single computer code capable of predicting the production, transport, and deposition of engine and plume contaminants, and the change in absorptivity, emissivity, reflectivity, and transmissivity of a functional spacecraft surface, such as thermal control coatings and optical view ports and lenses, resulting from plume contaminant deposition or mechanical abrasion (sand blasting). Analytical models and computer subprograms have been developed and integrated to form the CONTAM computer program. A sample case illustrating the CONTAM program's capability to predict contaminant production and transport is presented. (Author).

Book Time and Space Dependence of Particulate Effluent in the Exhaust Plume of a Pulsed Liquid Bipropellant Engine

Download or read book Time and Space Dependence of Particulate Effluent in the Exhaust Plume of a Pulsed Liquid Bipropellant Engine written by B. P. Curry and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The temporal and radial profiles of particulate mean sizes and densities in the exhaust plume of a pulsed 5-lbf thrust liquid bipropellant rocket engine have been determined. The primary goal of this analysis has been to establish the capability of simulating the characteristics of multi-second firings at high altitude. The results demonstrate that steady-state particle formulation kinetics are achieved in times on the order of 10 milliseconds. Further, combustion instability was shown to be unimportant for combustion chamber length-to-diameter ratios less than 30. The particle size and flux measurements reported here additionally demonstrate the utility of Mie scattering techniques for pulsed engine testing and contamination tests.

Book excerpt: Rocket and air-breathing propulsion systems are the foundation on which planning for future aerospace systems rests. A Review of United States Air Force and Department of Defense Aerospace Propulsion Needs assesses the existing technical base in these areas and examines the future Air Force capabilities the base will be expected to support. This report also defines gaps and recommends where future warfighter capabilities not yet fully defined could be met by current science and technology development plans.
