Book Gas Chromatography in Air Pollution Analysis

Download or read book Gas Chromatography in Air Pollution Analysis written by V.G. Berezkin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-04-25 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air pollution determination is one of the most important fields of gas chromatography application in practice. This book provides a systematic description of the main stages of air pollution determination, ranging from sampling problems to the quantitative estimation of the acquired data. Special attention is paid to the problem of gas, vapor, spray and solid particles extraction from air. The main methods of sampling procedure, namely, container utilization, cryogenic concentration, absorption, adsorption, chemisorption and filter usage, and successive impurities extraction are also handled. Sorption theory and the problems of sorption and desorption efficiency for hazardous impurities being extracted from traps with sorbents are discussed in detail. The practical utilization of different sorbents (silica, activated carbon, polymers etc.) to carry out sampling procedures for 200 main pollutants with known TLV (USSR and USA) is also considered. This highly informative book, reflecting several insufficiently known techniques as well as the experience of both western and Soviet researchers, should be of interest to both beginners and skilled researchers.

Book Gas Chromatographic Environmental Analysis

Download or read book Gas Chromatographic Environmental Analysis written by Fabrizio Bruner and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1993-09-06 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Mobile Field Monitoring of Volatile Organics and Toxic Air Pollutants Using a Mobile Tandem Mass Spectrometer System

Download or read book Mobile Field Monitoring of Volatile Organics and Toxic Air Pollutants Using a Mobile Tandem Mass Spectrometer System written by BI. Shushan and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent marriage of tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) to mobile trace atmospheric gas analyzer (TAGA) technology has resulted in an analytical system capable of real-time direct air analysis for toxic air pollutants (TAP), volatile organic compounds (VOC), and odor compounds at concentrations as low as a few parts per trillion. This direct analytical approach obviates problems associated with conventional trapping methods. The latest design of a mobile MS/MS laboratory comprises a customized 9-m (30-ft) transit motor coach configured with a TAGA 6000EM MS/MS system and ancillary equipment. This paper discusses the incorporation of a sorbent cartridge purge unit into the TAGA system to assist in rapidly distinguishing between isomeric compounds (for example, ethylbenzene and xylene) using gas chromatography (GC/MS/MS. This paper also describes combining real-time TAP analysis with meteorological data to rapidly and accurately characterize plume profiles and emission frequencies. The mobility of the TAGA detector permitted the precise location of point source and fugitive emissions. Examples are provided for industrial emissions of methyl ethyl ketone and dimethyl sulfide. A simple method of on-site calibration was used, based upon headspace syringe injection. Under interactive computer control, calibration constants were determined in about 5 min per compound within the ambient air matrix. Other recent software developments are discussed, including the ability to simultaneously monitor up to 128 different compounds with real-time output in concentration units.

Book Mass Spectrometry in Environmental Sciences

Download or read book Mass Spectrometry in Environmental Sciences written by F.W. Karasek and published by Springer. This book was released on 1985-02-28 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past ten years a variety of methods involving mass spectrom etry have been developed for the analysis of environmentally important compounds. Much has been accomplished in that period to solve some of the important problems in the field. Growth of this methodology and its accomplishments has reached the point where an individual scientist can no longer have an in-depth knowledge of all the areas involved. We have attempted to provide this in-depth picture to those scientists con cerned by having the important topics treated by experts in the subject matter. In order to provide all the relevant material in one volume we begin with the general topics which provide the basic background material necessary to understand the techniques discussed in the in-depth topics. These general chapters are kept brief, containing only the essentials needed by the working scientist to deal with the practical applications. References in these chapters are chosen to permit a more complete study of each chapter. The concept for this book was developed during the activities of two of the editors under a NATO travel grant. These editors gratefully acknowledge this support which made the initial planning of this book possible. The editors would like to thank the individual authors of each chap ter for their cooperation and generously giving of their time for this project.
