Book Localization and Fracture Phenomena in Inelastic Solids

Download or read book Localization and Fracture Phenomena in Inelastic Solids written by Piotr Perzyna and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains the discussion of some important aspects of localization and fracture phenomena in inelastic solids (single crystals, polycrystalline solids and geological materials). Physical and experimental foundations of crystal plasticity are given. Constitutive modelling of dissipative solids for description of localization and fracture is presented. Various regularization methods for solution of the initial-boundary value problems are outlined. Numerical solutions based on finite element method of practicular evolution problems with localization of plastic deformation are considered.

Book The Physics and Mathematics of Adiabatic Shear Bands

Download or read book The Physics and Mathematics of Adiabatic Shear Bands written by T. W. Wright and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-07-22 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a research monograph on the material instability known as adiabatic shear banding which often occurs in a plastically deforming material as it undergoes rapid shearing. Plastic deformation generates heat, which eventually softens most materials with continued straining, a process which is usually unstable. In this case the instability results in thin regions of highly deformed material, which are often the sites of further damage and complete failure. The main body of the book examines a series of one-dimensional problems of increasing complexity. In this way a comprehensive and quantitative picture of the complete phenomena is built up. Particular care is taken to use well established asymptotic techniques to find simple, but universal, analytic expressions or scaling laws that encapsulate various aspects of the dynamic formation and the final morphology of shear bands. A fully developed mechanics of shear is just beginning to emerge as a major companion to fracture mechanics, this book may speed the process along.

Book Dynamic Adaptive Mesh Refinement Algorithm for Failure in Brittle Materials

Download or read book Dynamic Adaptive Mesh Refinement Algorithm for Failure in Brittle Materials written by Zongyue Fan and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present work is aimed at developing a dynamic adaptive mesh refinement (DAMR) method for the study of failure mechanisms in brittle materials within the eigenfracture framework. A mesh refinement method based on boundary representation technique (B-rep) and Delaunay triangulation is developed. In addition, a flip algorithm is employed to guarantee the quality of the refined mesh. The mesh refinement algorithm is verified in an example of static adaptive mesh generation of polycrystalline structures that are created by using Voronoi tessellation. Furthermore, the DAMR method is built upon the combination of the adaptive mesh refinement algorithm and the eigenfracture approach. In the DAMR, the energy release rate G is used as the adaption. Finally, the DAMR method is validated by comparing to mode-I and mixed mode fracture experiments on concrete materials. The simulation results show excellent agreement with experimental measurements and more accurate predictions than the original eigenfracture approach.

Book Introduction to Finite Element Analysis Using MATLAB and Abaqus

Download or read book Introduction to Finite Element Analysis Using MATLAB and Abaqus written by Amar Khennane and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-06-10 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are some books that target the theory of the finite element, while others focus on the programming side of things. Introduction to Finite Element Analysis Using MATLAB® and Abaqus accomplishes both. This book teaches the first principles of the finite element method. It presents the theory of the finite element method while maintaining a balance between its mathematical formulation, programming implementation, and application using commercial software. The computer implementation is carried out using MATLAB, while the practical applications are carried out in both MATLAB and Abaqus. MATLAB is a high-level language specially designed for dealing with matrices, making it particularly suited for programming the finite element method, while Abaqus is a suite of commercial finite element software. Includes more than 100 tables, photographs, and figures Provides MATLAB codes to generate contour plots for sample results Introduction to Finite Element Analysis Using MATLAB and Abaqus introduces and explains theory in each chapter, and provides corresponding examples. It offers introductory notes and provides matrix structural analysis for trusses, beams, and frames. The book examines the theories of stress and strain and the relationships between them. The author then covers weighted residual methods and finite element approximation and numerical integration. He presents the finite element formulation for plane stress/strain problems, introduces axisymmetric problems, and highlights the theory of plates. The text supplies step-by-step procedures for solving problems with Abaqus interactive and keyword editions. The described procedures are implemented as MATLAB codes and Abaqus files can be found on the CRC Press website.
