Book Analysis of Diesel Spray Characteristic at High Pressure Injection

Download or read book Analysis of Diesel Spray Characteristic at High Pressure Injection written by Norsyamsul Syazwan Mohd Nuji and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In diesel combustion, spray evaporation and mixture formation during ignition delay period play an important role in ignition, combustion and emission production. Spray evaporation begins immediately after start of fuel injection under the condition of high ambient temperature, in particular, at the middle of the spray. Spray atomization is fast promoted at this region, leading to ignition. The ambient temperature and injection pressures affect the droplets size and the number of droplets. In this project, the fuel will be injected at various injection parameters inside spray chamber in order to study the affect of that parameter towards spray characteristics. An analysis study was performed to investigate the macroscopic spray structure and the spray characteristics of high-pressure injector for the diesel engine. The spray structure and microscopic characteristics of high-pressure diesel injector were investigated when fuel was injected at various injection pressures and different nozzle diameter. Spray developing process, spray cone angle and spray tip penetration were obtained by using the software simulation of ANSYS-FLUENT, and the quantitative result of spray characteristics will be analyzes.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was focus to investigate the diesel spray characteristics and atomization performance. The influences of injector nozzle geometry and injection pressure conditions on a diesel fuel spray were examined and predicted by using ANSYS FLUENT software. A flow domain and constant volume combustion chamber was designed and temperature was set 540 K at pressure 1 MPa for simulations. Spray penetration length and cone angle of diesel spray were recorded. To investigate the influence of nozzle geometry, Sac and VCO (Valve Covers Orifice) with difference diameter orifice and injection pressure were designed and used in both spray evolution. Comparisons were made between different nozzle geometries and different injection pressures. Differences were observed between VCO and Sac nozzles, with the Sac nozzles showing a higher rate of penetration under the same conditions.

Book Modeling Engine Spray and Combustion Processes

Download or read book Modeling Engine Spray and Combustion Processes written by Gunnar Stiesch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The utilization of mathematical models to numerically describe the performance of internal combustion engines is of great significance in the development of new and improved engines. Today, such simulation models can already be viewed as standard tools, and their importance is likely to increase further as available com puter power is expected to increase and the predictive quality of the models is constantly enhanced. This book describes and discusses the most widely used mathematical models for in-cylinder spray and combustion processes, which are the most important subprocesses affecting engine fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. The relevant thermodynamic, fluid dynamic and chemical principles are summarized, and then the application of these principles to the in-cylinder processes is ex plained. Different modeling approaches for the each subprocesses are compared and discussed with respect to the governing model assumptions and simplifica tions. Conclusions are drawn as to which model approach is appropriate for a specific type of problem in the development process of an engine. Hence, this book may serve both as a graduate level textbook for combustion engineering stu dents and as a reference for professionals employed in the field of combustion en gine modeling. The research necessary for this book was carried out during my employment as a postdoctoral scientist at the Institute of Technical Combustion (ITV) at the Uni versity of Hannover, Germany and at the Engine Research Center (ERC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA.

Book SAE 2002 30 0005 The Influence of Injector Parameters on Diesel Spray

Download or read book SAE 2002 30 0005 The Influence of Injector Parameters on Diesel Spray written by C. Bae and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diesel injection nozzles, incorporated with common-rail, high-pressure injection system, have the variety in its geometries. The design parameters of injection nozzle need to meet the requirement of compact fuel spread and atomization followed by mixing with air and combustion in HSDI (High-Speed Direct Injection) diesel engines. Diesel injectors with various nozzle geometries were tested to investigate the spray characteristics by optical-imaging techniques. Sac-nozzle and VCO nozzle incorporated with common-rail system were tested to see the behavior of high-pressure injection. Detailed investigation into spray characteristics from the holes of VCO nozzles, mostly with double guided needle, was performed. A variety of injection hole geometries was tested and compared to give tips on better injector design. Different hole sizes and taper ratio, represented as K factor, were studied through comprehensive spray-imaging techniques. Global characteristics of non-evaporative transient diesel spray, such as spray penetration and spray angle were measured from macroscopic images, which were frozen by an instantaneous photography with spark light source and CCD camera. Internal structure during spray development for atomization was analyzed from microscopic images, which was manifested through magnified spray images taken by a long-distance microscope. These provided the better understanding of the spray surface structure and the primary breakup process of dense spray from VCO nozzles incorporated with common-rail injection system. Fuel droplet sizes, mainly represented by SMD (Sauter Mean Diameter) were also estimated from the images. Spray images were taken in a pressurized chamber (up to 30 bar) at various ambient conditions and fuel supply pressures for various nozzle geometries. The spray development from sac-nozzle and VCO nozzle was discussed. The holes with different geometry in nozzles, especially differently tapered holes (0~2 in K factor), were found to give different macroscopic behavior in terms of spray penetration and spray angle and subsequently various atomization performances. Higher K factor and smaller exit hole sizes showed faster penetration, especially at lower ambient pressure, and smaller spray angle.

Book HIGH INJECTION PRESSURE IMPINGING DIESEL SPRAY CHARACTERISTICS AND SUBSEQUENT SOOT FORMATION IN REACTING CONDITIONS

Download or read book HIGH INJECTION PRESSURE IMPINGING DIESEL SPRAY CHARACTERISTICS AND SUBSEQUENT SOOT FORMATION IN REACTING CONDITIONS written by and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract : The spray impingement in diesel engines attracts the attention of engine researchers in recent decades as the physical size of the engine is reduced. Due to the spray impingement, the atomization, vaporizing and air-fuel mixing quality is altered compared to a free spray. For emission control, soot is one of the major particulate emissions from diesel combustion and its formation in an impinged spray is worthy to be investigated. Firstly, to understand the impinged spray characteristics, the experiments for both non-vaporizing and reacting conditions were conducted in a constant volume combustion vessel. The impinged spray was captured by a high-speed camera and the instantaneous spray propagation distance and rate were obtained. For a better understanding, the microscopic behavior of the spray propagation, the curvature of the impinged spray was calculated and a relationship between local fuel distribution and soot formation was found. After that, the apparent heat release rate from an impinge spray combustion and the heat flux through the impingement were analyzed. The apparent heat release rate was obtained by the internal chamber pressure and the heat flux was measured by heat flux probes embedded in the impinging plate. Then, the soot formation of an impinged spray was both studied from experiments and simulations. In the experiments, the natural luminosity mainly due to the incandescence of soot particles was captured by the high-speed camera. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach was adopted to quantitatively study the soot formation in terms of absolute soot mass and soot mass fractions in the vicinity of the wall. In the last, the film formation under different ambient temperatures, impinging distances, and oxygen concentration was investigated in terms of film area and thickness. The impact of film formation on the soot outcomes was then investigated by comparing the rate of film vaporization and soot formation. To summarize, the main goal of this dissertation is going to benefit the understanding of the impinged spray in reacting diesel-relevant engine conditions. From experiments, a global view of soot formation in an impinged spray was analyzed and the mechanism of soot formation was further revealed by the CFD simulations.

Book A Study of the Spray Characteristic for Valve Covered Orifice Diesel Nozzle Injector Using CFD

Download or read book A Study of the Spray Characteristic for Valve Covered Orifice Diesel Nozzle Injector Using CFD written by Ahmad Aizuddin Faiz Che Jaafar and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diesel engine performance and emissions are strongly coupled with fuel atomization and spray processes, which in turn are strongly influenced by injector flow dynamics. Modern engines employ micro-orifice with different orifice designs. It is critical to characterize the effects of various designs on engine performance and emissions. Spray characteristic of diesel fuel injection is one of the most important factors in diesel combustion and pollutant emissions where the interval between the onset of combustion and the evaporation of atomized fuel is relatively short. Therefore, this project is to study the spray simulation of diesel fuel using valve covered orifice (VCO) nozzle injector in the closed chamber. Three main components are focused on this paper, first is the relation between the spray characteristic influences of the various ambient temperature,. The second focus is the influences of the injection pressure,to the spray characteristic and the third focus is relation between the various diameter of nozzle hole size to the spray characteristic. Good spray characteristic leads to the good drivability, high combustion efficiency and stoichiometric air-fuel mixture. Therefore,Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method using ANSYS Fluent simulation software is used for this purpose. The simulation of injection spray in chamber is conducted by using diesel fuel with the single and double-hole Valve Covered Orifice (VCO) nozzle, injection pressure, were various in range 5 KPa - 150 MPa, the ambient pressure, at atmosphere pressure at 101.325 Pa, the ambient temperature, was various in range of 273 K - 1000 K and at the same time iteration.
