Book ANALYSIS OF AN APERTURE ANTENNA SYSTEM LOADED WITH AN INHOMOGENEOUS DIELECTRIC

Download or read book ANALYSIS OF AN APERTURE ANTENNA SYSTEM LOADED WITH AN INHOMOGENEOUS DIELECTRIC written by Jesse Samuel Bitler and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis is made of an aperture system loaded with an inhomogeneous dielectric. The system consists of two parts. The first part is a section of rectangular waveguide extending from negative infinity along the z-axis to a distance z0 back from an infinite, perfectly conducting ground plane, whose normal is also in the z direction. This section of waveguide is filled with a homogeneous dielectric. The second part is a section of rectangular waveguide of the same dimensions extending from z0 to an aperture in the ground plane. This section of waveguide is filled with an inhomogeneous dielectric. The dielectric is characterized by a permeability and permittivity that varies exponentially with distance from the aperture. At first the waveguide containing the inhomogeneous dielectric was considered to extend to negative infinity. A set of modes was found to satisfy Maxwell's equations and the required aperture symmetries when the field incident at the aperture was a conventional TE10 mode. The fields on the free-space side of the aperture were written in integral form using the free-space Green's Function as a kernel and the aperture electric field as its source. (Author).

Book Analysis of Aperture Antennas in Inhomogeneous Media

Download or read book Analysis of Aperture Antennas in Inhomogeneous Media written by Dikran Damlamayan and published by . This book was released on 1968* with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this report is to calculate the admittance and the radiation pattern of aperture antennas fed by waveguides of arbitrary cross-section and radiating into dielectric slabs, whose constitutive parameters may be functions of position along the direction normal to the slab faces. For a given aperture field distribution the antenna aperture admittance and the radiation field are expressed here, for the first time, in terms of two auxiliary quantities directly related to the plane wave reflection and transmission coefficients of the dielectric slab. These quantities are the input admittance of the dielectric slab and the ratio of the total electric field amplitude transmitted at one end of the slab to the transverse field at the other, both calculated for plane waves as a function of incident propagation direction. This approach introduces a great simplification in the solution of the problem, particularly in the case of an antenna radiating into an inhomogeneous dielectric slab. A simple and powerful method has been devised for the computation of the input admittance of an inhomogeneous dielectric slab as well as for electric field ratio. In this case the impracticability of obtaining analytical results has necessitated the use of numerical techniques. Applications of theory are discussed. (Author).

Book Radiation from Dielectric Loaded Waveguide Fed Aperture Antennas

Download or read book Radiation from Dielectric Loaded Waveguide Fed Aperture Antennas written by Martin D. Bradshaw and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical and experimental studies of the radiation pattern and input admittance of dielectric loaded waveguide fed aperture antennas are presented. The model consists of a waveguide fed, dielectric loaded aperture whose outer surface is flush with an infinite, perfectly conducting ground plane. The aperture and ground plane are covered by a dielectric layer. The window and the covering layer may be inhomogeneous in the direction of propagation. The analysis makes use of a mode-matching process that permits the effects of higher order modes to be taken into account in the dielectric loaded aperture section and in the covering layer. The window and layer are represented by an arbitrary number of inhomogeneous, lossy, dielectric slabs, each with slightly different permittivities. Collaction (point-matching) techniques are used to match boundary conditions at each interface within the dielectric loaded aperture section and two-dimensional Fourier transforms are used to match boundary conditions at each interface in the covering layer. Matrix techniques are used to handle an arbitrary number of layers in either region. A large number of experimental measurements of input admittance and far-field radiation pattern measurements are presented for three different aperture configurations, with and without a covering dielectric layer. A computer program is described that can handle the computations. The program is written in FORTRAN IV for a Control Data Corporation 6600 machine. Computed values of input admittance and far-field radiation patterns are presented. (Author).

Book A Dielectric loaded Leaky Wave Antenna

Download or read book A Dielectric loaded Leaky Wave Antenna written by Jorgen Aasted and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and the measured performance are described of a flat, leaky-wave antenna in which the inductive, leaky surface is backed with a slab of dielectric. The analysis is based on a transverse resonance analysis which determines the physical dimensions of the antenna for a certain specified aperture distribution. An antenna was built to compare the theoretical behavior with the measured performance. Two ways of forming the dielectric to the antenna were tested. When the dielectric was molded in place the radiation pattern agreed very well with the theoretically predicted pattern, but high losses in the casting resin gave a lower gain for the antenna than anticipated. For a machined piece of dielectric, the radiation pattern was not as close to the predicted pattern as for the molded sample, but the gain was close to the predicted value. The antenna consists of a 28-by-18-inch through filled with a dielectric material over which a sheet of parallel wires is strung. At the design frequency, 4.75 gc, the antenna radiates a pencil beam 9.4 by 8.3 degrees wide at an angle of 54 degrees measured from the normal to the inductive surface. The beam can be scanned from approximately 75 degrees down to 12 degrees from the normal to the aperture by changing the frequency from 5.25 gc to 4.20 gc. (Author).

Book Electromagnetic Performance Analysis of Graded Dielectric Inhomogeneous Radomes

Download or read book Electromagnetic Performance Analysis of Graded Dielectric Inhomogeneous Radomes written by P. Mahima and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on a new radome wall configuration based on an inhomogeneous planar layer, which overcomes current fabrication constraints in radome design and yields improved electromagnetic (EM) characteristics. The book also includes a detailed description of radomes and antenna-radome interaction studies for different radome wall configurations. The radome wall was designed using the equivalent transmission line method (EQTLM), since it requires less computational speed and provides accurate results. In order to substantiate the accuracy of the results obtained using EQTLM, the simulated results based on full wave methods like CST Microwave Studio Suite are also included. The EM performance analysis of the antenna-radome system for two radome shapes, tangent ogive (for airborne applications) and hemispherical (for ground-based applications), was performed using Geometric Optics Method in conjunction with the Aperture Integration Method. To show the efficacy of the new design, a comparison of performance characteristics between the novel radome and conventional wall configurations is also included. Lastly, it presents antenna-radome interaction studies for various aperture distributions. The book offers a unique resource for all researchers working in the area of microwave radomes.
