Book Analysis and Design of Flexible Underground Structures

Download or read book Analysis and Design of Flexible Underground Structures written by Nathan Mortimore Newmark and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original purpose of this investigation was to provide a protective shelter that could be constructed and occupied in a forward area within one weeks time by an engineer platoon with a normal strength (at the time this study was initiated) of 51 men. However, it should be pointed out that the structure as finally designed can be built and occupied by any troop unit of comparable strength with a minimum of engineer equipment, assistance and engineering supervision.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a general review of the literature on underground structures, combined with new specifications, engineering case studies, and numerical simulations based on the authors’ research. It focuses on the basic concepts, theories, and methods of the design of underground structures. After an introduction, it covers various topics, such as elastic foundation beam theory and numerical analysis methods for underground structures, as well as the design of shallow underground structures, diaphragm wall structures, shield tunnel structures, caisson structures, immersed tube structures, and integral tunnel structures. It also includes tables for calculating elastic foundation beam. This book is intended for senior undergraduate and graduate students majoring in urban underground space engineering, building engineering, highway engineering, railway engineering, bridge and tunnel engineering, water conservancy and hydropower engineering.

Book Underground Structures

Download or read book Underground Structures written by R.S. Sinha and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most up to date information relevant to the design and instrumentation of underground structures. The structure might be a tunnel, shaft, cavern, or pressure unit, or a combination thereof. Empirical, rational, numerical, convergence and confinement, and discontinuity analysis methods are treated comprehensively. Special chapters are devoted to underground structures in rock burst, swelling, squeezing, and seismic zones. Water control, instrumentation, and tunneling through soft ground are also treated extensively. Sections on the design of pressure tunnels, shafts, caverns, shotcreting, water control, and soft ground tunnels are informative and authoritative. Worked examples are included on the design of rock tunnels, soft ground tunnels, and the treatment of underground structures through difficult ground. Extensive references are provided, and figures, sketches and photographs aid presentation. Important tables on planning, and case histories, allow the reader to build confidence in his design of underground structures. The book will be beneficial to civil, structural, geotechnical and mining engineers, geologists, and planners and managers associated with the design and construction of underground structures.

Book Soil Structure Interaction Underground Structures and Retaining Walls

Download or read book Soil Structure Interaction Underground Structures and Retaining Walls written by V.M. Ulitsky and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2015-02-24 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With construction techniques becoming ever more complex, and population pressure leading to the development of increasingly problematic sites, expertise in the area of soil structure interaction is crucial to architectural and construction industries worldwide. This book contains the proceedings of the ISSMGE Technical Committee 207 International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering - Soil Structure Interaction and Retaining Walls - held in St Petersburg, Russia, in June 2014. The conference was dedicated to the memory of the outstanding geotechnical expert Gregory Porphyryevich Tschebotarioff. Topics covered at the conference included: soil structure interaction, underground structures and retaining walls, site investigation as a source of input parameters for soil structure interaction, and interaction between structures and frozen soils. The papers included here are the English language papers. Papers presented by the authors in Russian are published by the Georeconstruction Institute of St. Petersburg.

Book Design and Construction of Tunnels

Download or read book Design and Construction of Tunnels written by Pietro Lunardi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-20 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work illustrates how the Analysis of Controlled Deformation in Rocks and Soils (ADECO-RS) is used in the design and the construction of tunnels. This is a very new and effective way of tunnel construction. The ADECO-RS approach makes a clear distinction between the design and the construction stages and allows reliable forecasts of construction times and costs to be made. It uses the advance core (the core of ground ahead of the face) as a structural tool for the long and short term stabilisation of tunnels, after its rigidity has first been regulated using conservation techniques.
