Book Comprehensive Water Quality and Purification

Download or read book Comprehensive Water Quality and Purification written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 1537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive Water Quality and Purification, Four Volume Set provides a rich source of methods for analyzing water to assure its safety from natural and deliberate contaminants, including those that are added because of carelessness of human endeavors. Human development has great impact on water quality, and new contaminants are emerging every day. The issues of sampling for water analysis, regulatory considerations, and forensics in water quality and purity investigations are covered in detail. Microbial as well as chemical contaminations from inorganic compounds, radionuclides, volatile and semivolatile compounds, disinfectants, herbicides, and pharmaceuticals, including endocrine disruptors, are treated extensively. Researchers must be aware of all sources of contamination and know how to prescribe techniques for removing them from our water supply. Unlike other works published to date that concentrate on issues of water supply, water resource management, hydrology, and water use by industry, this work is more tightly focused on the monitoring and improvement of the quality of existing water supplies and the recovery of wastewater via new and standard separation techniques Using analytical chemistry methods, offers remediation advice on pollutants and contaminants in addition to providing the critical identification perspective The players in the global boom of water purification are numerous and varied. Having worked extensively in academia and industry, the Editor-in-Chief has been careful about constructing a work for a shared audience and cause

Book Trenchless Installation of Conduits Beneath Roadways

Download or read book Trenchless Installation of Conduits Beneath Roadways written by Tom Iseley and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1997 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to geologists; geotechnical, construction, and maintenance engineers; other state department of transportation (DOT) personnel involved with the planning, design, and permit issuance for conduits beneath roadways; local transportation agencies; utility contractors and consultants; and trenchless construction equipment manufacturers. It describes the current state of the practice for the use of trenchless technology for installing conduits beneath roadways. Trenchless construction is a process of installing, rehabilitating, or replacing underground utility systems without open-cut excavation. The synthesis is focused on trenchless technology for new installations. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the trenchless installation technologies (methods, materials, and equipment) currently employed by state DOTs and other agencies to install conduits beneath roadways. The synthesis presents data obtained from a review of the literature and a survey of transportation agencies. For each technology identified, information is provided to describe the range of applications, basis for technique selection, site specific design factors to be considered, relative costs, common environmental issues, and example specifications. In addition, information on emerging technologies and research needs is presented.

Book Toward Infrastructure Improvement

Download or read book Toward Infrastructure Improvement written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1994-02-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book advises the federal government on a national infrastructure research agenda. It takes the position that the traditional disciplinary and institutional divisions among infrastructure modes and professions are largely historical artifacts that impose barriers to the development of new technology and encourages the government to embrace a more interdisciplinary approach. In order to be practical, the study focuses on infrastructure technologies that can be incorporated into or overlay current systems, allow for alternative future alternative future urban development, and are likely to have value cutting across the distinct functional modes of infrastructure. Finally, the report is organized according to seven broad cross-cutting areas that should promote interdisciplinary approaches to infrastructure problems: systems life-cycle management, analysis and decision tools, information management, condition assessment and monitoring technology, the science of materials performance and deterioration, construction equipment and procedures, and technology management.
