Book Three Dimensional Model Analysis and Processing

Download or read book Three Dimensional Model Analysis and Processing written by Faxin Yu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-02-03 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increasing popularization of the Internet, together with the rapid development of 3D scanning technologies and modeling tools, 3D model databases have become more and more common in fields such as biology, chemistry, archaeology and geography. People can distribute their own 3D works over the Internet, search and download 3D model data, and also carry out electronic trade over the Internet. However, some serious issues are related to this as follows: (1) How to efficiently transmit and store huge 3D model data with limited bandwidth and storage capacity; (2) How to prevent 3D works from being pirated and tampered with; (3) How to search for the desired 3D models in huge multimedia databases. This book is devoted to partially solving the above issues. Compression is useful because it helps reduce the consumption of expensive resources, such as hard disk space and transmission bandwidth. On the downside, compressed data must be decompressed to be used, and this extra processing may be detrimental to some applications. 3D polygonal mesh (with geometry, color, normal vector and texture coordinate information), as a common surface representation, is now heavily used in various multimedia applications such as computer games, animations and simulation applications. To maintain a convincing level of realism, many applications require highly detailed mesh models. However, such complex models demand broad network bandwidth and much storage capacity to transmit and store. To address these problems, 3D mesh compression is essential for reducing the size of 3D model representation.

Book Analysis of Three dimensional Inviscid Supersonic Flow Between a Body and an Outer Wall

Download or read book Analysis of Three dimensional Inviscid Supersonic Flow Between a Body and an Outer Wall written by W. C. Armstrong and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three-dimensional inviscid supersonic flow equations are solved for the flow over a body located within a duct. Numerical solutions are obtained by use of the reference plane method of characteristics technique. Results of the analysis are compared with experimental test body pressure distributions obtained with an off-design jet stretcher system. The analysis is sufficiently general so that a variety of internal flows may be predicted. A computer program listing and an example problem are presented.

Book Three Dimensional Velocity and Vorticity Measuring and Image Analysis Techniques

Download or read book Three Dimensional Velocity and Vorticity Measuring and Image Analysis Techniques written by Th. Dracos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this volume reflect to a large extent the efforts made by a group of Institutes at the ETH Zürich to develop new techniques for measurements of flows in fluids in the last decade. The motivation came from the study of tr~sport and mixing processes in natural and industrial systems. One of the characteristic properties of turbulence is its high mixing efficiency. The techniques developed are therefore suitable, although not exclusively, for turbulence measurements. They can be subdivided into point-measurements and field-measurements. The aim of the point-measurements developed is to determine the three components of the velocity and all their first derivatives with good temporal resolution and accuracy in turbulent flows. The old and weIl established method of hot-wire anemometry was used for this purpose. One of the main achievements in this context is the construction of miniature multi-wire probes. This technique was introduced to the Institute of Hydromechanics and Water Resources Management of ETH Zürich by Profs. A. Tsinober and E. Kit from Tel-Aviv University. This was made possible by the generous financial support by ETH, for which I would like to express my gratitude on this occasion. In addition, Dr. F.E. Joergensen from DANTEC contributed an example of recent developments in the hardware ofConstant Temperature Anemometry (CTA), for which I am very thankful.

Book Elastic Shape Analysis of Three Dimensional Objects

Download or read book Elastic Shape Analysis of Three Dimensional Objects written by Ian H. Jermyn and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistical analysis of shapes of 3D objects is an important problem with a wide range of applications. This analysis is difficult for many reasons, including the fact that objects differ in both geometry and topology. In this manuscript, we narrow the problem by focusing on objects with fixed topology, say objects that are diffeomorphic to unit spheres, and develop tools for analyzing their geometries. The main challenges in this problem are to register points across objects and to perform analysis while being invariant to certain shape-preserving transformations. We develop a comprehensive framework for analyzing shapes of spherical objects, i.e., objects that are embeddings of a unit sphere in ℝ, including tools for: quantifying shape differences, optimally deforming shapes into each other, summarizing shape samples, extracting principal modes of shape variability, and modeling shape variability associated with populations. An important strength of this framework is that it is elastic: it performs alignment, registration, and comparison in a single unified framework, while being invariant to shape-preserving transformations. The approach is essentially Riemannian in the following sense. We specify natural mathematical representations of surfaces of interest, and impose Riemannian metrics that are invariant to the actions of the shape-preserving transformations. In particular, they are invariant to reparameterizations of surfaces. While these metrics are too complicated to allow broad usage in practical applications, we introduce a novel representation, termed square-root normal fields (SRNFs), that transform a particular invariant elastic metric into the standard L2 metric. As a result, one can use standard techniques from functional data analysis for registering, comparing, and summarizing shapes. Specifically, this results in: pairwise registration of surfaces; computation of geodesic paths encoding optimal deformations; computation of Karcher means and covariances under the shape metric; tangent Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and extraction of dominant modes of variability; and finally, modeling of shape variability using wrapped normal densities. These ideas are demonstrated using two case studies: the analysis of surfaces denoting human bodies in terms of shape and pose variability; and the clustering and classification of the shapes of subcortical brain structures for use in medical diagnosis. This book develops these ideas without assuming advanced knowledge in differential geometry and statistics. We summarize some basic tools from differential geometry in the appendices, and introduce additional concepts and terminology as needed in the individual chapters.

Book Analysis and Synthesis of Three dimensional Illumination Using Partial Coherence

Download or read book Analysis and Synthesis of Three dimensional Illumination Using Partial Coherence written by Zhengyun Zhang and published by Stanford University. This book was released on 2011 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There exists many devices that generate three-dimensional illumination patterns. Analysis of the capabilities of three major device families using measures of partial coherence reveals specific illumination patterns that cannot be generated by each device family. Ray-based devices cannot achieve patterns with high resolution, coherent holographic devices cannot achieve certain intensity patterns, even in the two-dimensional case, and volumetric devices cannot simulate occlusions and suffer from out-of-focus blur. Synthesis of more versatile illumination patterns is proposed by computing the mutual intensity representation of a desired partially coherent beam from application specifications and then generating the beam using time-multiplexing methods based on coherent modes. The mutual intensity can be computed directly from a simple scene description, or it can be computed through a novel algorithm using nonlinear conjugate gradients from a desired three-dimensional intensity volume. Equivalent coherent mode decomposition representations for the same mutual intensity will be considered in terms of optimality in efficiency. For cases when the computed mutual intensity is fairly incoherent, a new "quasi-Schell" mode decomposition is proposed to reduce the number of patterns needed at the SLM by introducing partially coherent sources. Use of arbitrary partially coherent beams for three-dimensional illumination enables the versatile generation of light patterns not possible with current devices and is a promising new field for exploration.

Book Vectors in Three Dimensional Space

Download or read book Vectors in Three Dimensional Space written by J. S. R. Chisholm and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1978-09-28 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with vector algebra and analysis and with their application to three-dimensional geometry and the analysis of fields in three dimensions. While many treatments of the application of vectors have approached the fundamentals of the subject intuitively, assuming some prior knowledge of Euclidean and Cartesian geometry, Professor Chrisholm here bases the subject on the axioms of linear space algebra, which are fundamental to many branches of mathematics. While developing the properties of vectors from axioms, however, he continually emphasizes the geometrical interpretation of vector algebra in order to build up intuitive relations between the algebraic equations and geometrical concepts. Throughout, examples are used to illustrate the theory being developed; several sets of problems are incorporate in each chapter, and outline answers to many of these are given. Written primarily for undergraduate mathematicians in the early part of their courses, this lucidly written book will also appeal to mathematical physicists and to mathematically inclined engineers.

Book Computer Analysis of Scenes of 3 Dimensional Curved Objects

Download or read book Computer Analysis of Scenes of 3 Dimensional Curved Objects written by NEVATIA and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1.0 2 The attention then turned to the problem of "Body separation", i.e. separation of occluding bodies in a scene (See [Guzman), [Falk), and [Waltz)). Grape ([Grape)) combined the separation of bodies with recognition, by removing parts of the scene recognized as belonging to a known body. All of these techniques were designed to work with polyhedral objects only, and extensively use the properties of edges and vertices. Though some impressive results have been reported ([Waltz], [Grape)), and perhaps some useful abstractions can be made, the specific techniques used fail to generalize to a wider class of objects. Among previous work on curved objects, B.K.P. Horn ([Horn)) presented techniques for extracting three dimensional depth data from a TV image, using reflection characteristics of the surface. Krakauer ([Krakauer]) represented objects by connections of brightness contours. Ambler et al ([Ambler)) describe experiments with simple shapes, including curved objects, using relations within a two-dimensional image. However, none of these efforts really addresses the problem of "shape" representation and description. Work on outdoor scene analysis is also concerned with non-polyhedral objects ([Bajcsy], [Yakimovsky]), but again no attention has been paid to shape analysis.
