Book excerpt: Contexte : l'OMS recommande un allaitement maternel exclusif pendant les six premiers mois de vie de l'enfant et sa poursuite jusqu'à l'âge de 2 ans. Il existe un important décalage entre les taux d'allaitement observés en France et ces recommandations fondées sur des bienfaits de l'allaitement multiples et universellement reconnus. L'objectif principal de notre travail était de comprendre le sens du phénomène allaitement maternel par le couple. Nous avons également tenu à faire émerger la place particulière du père ainsi qu'à répertorier les autres éléments participant à ce phénomène. Méthode : étude qualitative par entretiens de couple semi-directifs avec questionnement en profondeur auprès de parents ayant vécu au moins une expérience de l'allaitement maternel. Après saturation des données, une analyse phénoménologique du verbatim transcrit intégralement a fait émerger des catégories. Résultats : treize entretiens de couple ont été réalisés entre le 15 août 2017 et le 23 janvier 2018. Le couple choisit principalement l'allaitement pour les bénéfices prouvés sur la santé de leur enfant. Globalement le ressenti des mères sur l'allaitement est plutôt positif, celui des pères de notre étude est varié. Certains étaient très impliqués contribuant ainsi à la réussite de l'allaitement, d'autres plus en retrait mais bienveillants en revanche, ceux qui se sont sentis exclus ont pu porter préjudice au bon déroulement de cette expérience. Nous avons pu constater que certains facteurs peuvent influencer l'allaitement, notamment la reproduction du modèle parental, l'implication du père, le tabac et une bonne expérience au préalable de ce mode d'alimentation. Conclusion : deux idées fortes ont émergé de notre étude : l'importance du père dans le phénomène et l'intérêt de développer la formation des professionnels de santé notamment le rôle du médecin traitant dans l'accompagnement de l'allaitement.

Joint efforts and frequent direct contacts of ecologists, behaviorists, psychologists, physiologists, histologists and chemists are required. Such an interdisciplinary exchange of information took place on the occasion of the Symposium on Chemical Signals in Vertebrates and Aquatic Animals in Syracuse, New York, from May 31 to June 2, 1979. More than one hundred investigators from seven countries participated, and the papers presented comprise this volume. Since the first Symposium on Vertebrate Chemical Signals at Saratoga Springs in 1976, considerable progress has been made with field studies, the physiology of the vomeronasal organ, and its role in reproductive behavior. The behavioral functions and chemi cal nature of priming pheromones are better understood. Efforts to isolate and identify mammalian pheromones are gaining ground, and the bioassays are becoming more sophisticated. In addition to formal presentations, one evening of the Symposi um was devoted to round-table discussions of particular topics. The selected themes indicate the "growing points" of chemical communi cation research: priming pheromones, vomeronasal organ, bioassay, and practical applications.
