This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Analysis and Simulation of Semiconductor Devices

Download or read book Analysis and Simulation of Semiconductor Devices written by S. Selberherr and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The invention of semiconductor devices is a fairly recent one, considering classical time scales in human life. The bipolar transistor was announced in 1947, and the MOS transistor, in a practically usable manner, was demonstrated in 1960. From these beginnings the semiconductor device field has grown rapidly. The first integrated circuits, which contained just a few devices, became commercially available in the early 1960s. Immediately thereafter an evolution has taken place so that today, less than 25 years later, the manufacture of integrated circuits with over 400.000 devices per single chip is possible. Coincident with the growth in semiconductor device development, the literature concerning semiconductor device and technology issues has literally exploded. In the last decade about 50.000 papers have been published on these subjects. The advent of so called Very-Large-Scale-Integration (VLSI) has certainly revealed the need for a better understanding of basic device behavior. The miniaturization of the single transistor, which is the major prerequisite for VLSI, nearly led to a breakdown of the classical models of semiconductor devices.

Book Contact Problems in Elasticity

Download or read book Contact Problems in Elasticity written by N. Kikuchi and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contact of one deformable body with another lies at the heart of almost every mechanical structure. Here, in a comprehensive treatment, two of the field's leading researchers present a systematic approach to contact problems. Using variational formulations, Kikuchi and Oden derive a multitude of new results, both for classical problems and for nonlinear problems involving large deflections and buckling of thin plates with unilateral supports, dry friction with nonclassical laws, large elastic and elastoplastic deformations with frictional contact, dynamic contacts with dynamic frictional effects, and rolling contacts. This method exposes properties of solutions obscured by classical methods, and it provides a basis for the development of powerful numerical schemes.

Book Mathematical Methods for the Magnetohydrodynamics of Liquid Metals

Download or read book Mathematical Methods for the Magnetohydrodynamics of Liquid Metals written by Jean-Frédéric Gerbeau and published by Numerical Mathematics and Scie. This book was released on 2006-08-31 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive text focuses on mathematical and numerical techniques for the simulation of magnetohydrodynamic phenomena, with an emphasis laid on the magnetohydrodynamics of liquid metals, and on a prototypical industrial application. Aimed at research mathematicians, engineers, and physicists, as well as those working in industry, and starting from a good understanding of the physics at play, the approach is a highly mathematical one, based on the rigorous analysis of theequations at hand, and a solid numerical analysis to found the simulations. At each stage of the exposition, examples of numerical simulations are provided, first on academic test cases to illustrate the approach, next on benchmarks well documented in the professional literature, and finally, wheneverpossible, on real industrial cases.

Book Multivariate Approximation Theory II

Download or read book Multivariate Approximation Theory II written by Schempp and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Third International Symposium on Hultivariate Approximation Theory was held at the Oberwolfach!1athematical Research Insti tute, Black Forest, February 8-12, 1982. The preceding conferen ces on this topic were held in 1976* and 1979**. The conference brought together 50 mathematicians from 14 coun tries. These Proceedings form arecord of most of the papers pre sented at the Symposium. The topics treated cover different problems on multivariate approximation theory such as new results concerning approxima tion by polynomials in Sobolev spaces, biorthogonal systems and orthogonal series of functions in several variables, multivariate spline functions, group theoretic and functional analytic methods, positive linear operators, error estimates for approximation procedures and cubature formulae, Boolean methods in multivari ate interpolation and the numerical application of summation procedures. Special emphasis was posed on the application of multivariate approximation in various fields of science. One mathematician was sorely missed at the Symposium. Professor Arthur Sard who had actively taken part in the earlier conferen ces passed away in August of 1980. Since he was a friend of many of the participants, the editors wish to dedicate these Procee dings to the memory of this distinguished mathematician. Abrief appreciation of his life and mathematical work appears as well *"Constructive Theory of Functions of Several Variables". Edited by w. Schempp and Karl Zeller. Book Dirichlet dirichlet Domain Decomposition Methods For Elliptic Problems H And Hp Finite Element Discretizations

Download or read book Dirichlet dirichlet Domain Decomposition Methods For Elliptic Problems H And Hp Finite Element Discretizations written by Vadim Glebiovich Korneev and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-01-29 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domain decomposition (DD) methods provide powerful tools for constructing parallel numerical solution algorithms for large scale systems of algebraic equations arising from the discretization of partial differential equations. These methods are well-established and belong to a fast developing area. In this volume, the reader will find a brief historical overview, the basic results of the general theory of domain and space decomposition methods as well as the description and analysis of practical DD algorithms for parallel computing. It is typical to find in this volume that most of the presented DD solvers belong to the family of fast algorithms, where each component is efficient with respect to the arithmetical work. Readers will discover new analysis results for both the well-known basic DD solvers and some DD methods recently devised by the authors, e.g., for elliptic problems with varying chaotically piecewise constant orthotropism without restrictions on the finite aspect ratios. The hp finite element discretizations, in particular, by spectral elements of elliptic equations are given significant attention in current research and applications. This volume is the first to feature all components of Dirichlet-Dirichlet-type DD solvers for hp discretizations devised as numerical procedures which result in DD solvers that are almost optimal with respect to the computational work. The most important DD solvers are presented in the matrix/vector form algorithms that are convenient for practical use.
