Elles ont donné lieu à de nombreuses études en Traitement Automatique du Langage Naturel. En effet, leur étude et leur identification précise sont primordiales, sur les plans théorique et applicatif. Cependant, la majorité des travaux de recherche sur le sujet portent sur des usages de langage quotidien : dialogues " à bâtons rompus ", demandes d'horaire, discours, etc. Mais qu'en est-il des productions orales spontanées produites dans un cadre contraint ? Aucune étude n'a à notre connaissance été menée dans ce contexte. Or, on sait que l'utilisation d'une " langue de spécialité " dans le cadre d'une tâche donnée entraîne des comportements spécifiques. Notre travail de thèse est consacré à l'étude linguistique et informatique des disfluences dans un tel cadre. Il s'agit de dialogues de contrôle de trafic aérien, aux contraintes pragmatiques et linguistiques. Nous effectuons une étude exhaustive des phénomènes de disfluences dans ce contexte. Dans un premier temps nous procédons à l'analyse fine de ces phénomènes. Ensuite, nous les modélisons à un niveau de représentation abstrait, ce qui nous permet d'obtenir les patrons correspondant aux différentes configurations observées. Enfin nous proposons une méthodologie de traitement automatique. Celle-ci consiste en plusieurs algorithmes pour identifier les différents phénomènes, même en l'absence de marqueurs explicites. Elle est intégrée dans un système de traitement automatique de la parole. Enfin, la méthodologie est validée sur un corpus de 400 énoncés.

Book excerpt: Fluency and disfluency are characteristic of online language production and may be signalled by markers such as filled and unfilled pauses, discourse markers, repeats or self-repairs, which can be said to reflect ongoing mechanisms of processing and monitoring. The Fluency & Disfluency across Languages and Language Varieties conference held at the University of Louvain in February 2017 marked the closing of a five-year research project dedicated to the multimodal and contrastive investigation of fluency and disfluency in (L1 and L2) English, French and French Belgian sign language, with a focus on variation according to language, speaker and genre. The closing conference was intended as an opportunity to further expand the range of languages, language varieties and genres studied from the (dis)fluency perspective. The selection of papers in this volume re ects the diversity of approaches aiming to uncover the ways in which fluency and disfluency are conceived in language production and comprehension and how they are signalled. Topics include methodological challenges in cross-linguistic (dis)fluency research, the role of contextual features in professional and non-professional settings, and the characteristics of fluency and disfluency in second language speech. Of particular importance in all contributions is the ambivalent role of pauses, discourse markers, repeats and other markers, which can be both a symptom of encoding difficulties and a sign that the speaker is trying to help the hearer decode the message. They should thus be interpreted in context to identify their contribution to fluency and/or disfluency, which can be viewed as two sides of the same coin.

Computational resources such as processors, memories, wireless communication accelerate this computation-intensive systems and accumulation of digital data of speech and language encourage recent approaches based on machine learning. Through field experiments after long research in laboratories, S2S systems are being well-developed and now ready to utilized in daily life. Unique chapter of this book is end-2-end evaluation by comparing system’s performance and human competence. The effectiveness of the system would be understood by the score of this evaluation. The book will end with one of the next focus of S2S will be technology of simultaneous interpretation for lecture, broadcast news and so on.

This situation resulted in a natural drive towards the use of comparable corpora, i.e. non-parallel texts in the same domain or genre. Nevertheless, this research direction has not produced a single authoritative source suitable for researchers and students coming to the field.
