Book Narrative Analysis

Download or read book Narrative Analysis written by Colette Daiute and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2004 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narrative Analysis is organized around three approaches or "readings." Literary Readings focus on aesthetic, metaphorical, and other literary qualities inherent to narrative approaches. Social-Relational Readings build upon the idea that narrative discourse is personal but also echoes political, economic, and other material relationships in the environment. Readings through the Force of History explain how narrators come to know themselves and their worlds in terms of and in spite of the received explanations of time and place. Working in a range of ethnic, geographic, generational, class, and institutional communities, the authors demonstrate how they have used narrative inquiry to explore development in challenging social contexts.

Book Th orie Analyse Interpr tation Des R cits Theory Analysis Interpretation of Narratives

Download or read book Th orie Analyse Interpr tation Des R cits Theory Analysis Interpretation of Narratives written by Sylvie Patron and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book contains the collected papers of the international conference «Théorie, analyse, interprétation des récits/Theory, analysis, interpretation of narratives», held at the University of Paris Diderot-Paris 7 on the 12thand 13th of December 2008. The conference, which brought together specialists with very different backgrounds, aimed to examine three specific problems : first, the problem of the relations between theory and analysis (What role should theory play in the analysis of narrative ? How might analysis affect narrative theory in return ? ) ; secondly, the problem of the relations between analysis and «everyday» reading of narratives (Is the goal of analysis to account for what takes places in «everyday» readings of narrative ? Do studies conducted on empirical groups of readers modify narrative analysis or narrative theory itself ? ) ; and finally the problem of the historical and cultural scope of narrative theory.

Book Critical Genre Analysis

Download or read book Critical Genre Analysis written by Vijay K. Bhatia and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genre theory has focused primarily on the analysis of generic constructs, with increasing attention to and emphasis on the contexts in which such genres are produced, interpreted, and used to achieve objectives, often giving the impression as if producing genres is an end in itself, rather than a means to an end. The result of this focus is that there has been very little attention paid to the ultimate outcomes of these genre-based discursive activities, which are more appropriately viewed as academic, institutional, organizational, and professional actions and practices, which are invariably non-discursive, though often achieved through discursive means. It was this objective in mind that the book develops an approach to a more critical and deeper understanding of interdiscursive professional voices and actions. Critical Genre Analysis as a theory of discursive performance is thus an attempt to be as objective as possible, rigorous in analytical endeavour, using a multiperspective and multidimensional methodological framework taking into account interdiscursive aspects of genre construction to make it increasingly explanatory to demystify discursive performance in a range of professional contexts.

Book Psychological Narrative Analysis

Download or read book Psychological Narrative Analysis written by Jack Schafer and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2019-05-29 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This expanded new edition continues the theme of the first edition of emphasizing the ground-breaking research that examined the grammatical differences between truthful and deceptive narratives. This Psychological Narrative Analysis (PNA) is a robust program that tests truthfulness in both written and oral communications and provides clues to the communication styles and behavioral characteristics of others. PNA techniques allow people to peer into the hearts and minds of others to discover what they are thinking and evaluate the veracity of what they say. This second edition significantly updates the material in the first edition. New research in the area of detecting deception and oral communications and written statements increases annually. As the research increases, so does the need for more advanced tools to detect deception. This new text thoroughly advances the techniques previously offered. Several new chapters have been added to expand the breadth of the text. New chapters include the placement of emotions in written statements, words and phrases that signal deception, and detecting deception over the telephone. Also included in this new edition are more examples to demonstrate how the PNA techniques work and how to master them. Substantial appendices review the PNA of written and oral communications, along with practice statements for the reader, followed by a PNA of those exercises. Written in a style law enforcement professionals prefer, this book continues to serve as an authoritative and unique resource.

Book Yahweh s Elegant Speeches of the Abrahamic Narratives

Download or read book Yahweh s Elegant Speeches of the Abrahamic Narratives written by Matthew Michael and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a study in the attribution, aesthetics and representations of Yahweh’s speeches in the Hebrew Bible. It describes the literary elegance and beauty of the speeches of Yahweh in the Abrahamic narratives. Employing a synchronic reading of the Abrahamic cycle, it underscores the presence of various literary devices in the divine speeches (12:1-9, 13:1-18, 15:1-21, 17:1-27, 18:1-33, and 22: 1-19). Specifically, it engages the high concentration, literary effects and use of metaphors/metaphoric language, similes, alliterations, wordplays, euphemisms, hyperboles, repetitions, allusions and other distinctive literary features in the speeches of Yahweh which are deliberately denied, and glaringly absent in the speeches of the other main characters of the Abrahamic narratives (e.g. Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar). Similarly, it demonstrates the importance of these elevated speeches in the narrative world of Abrahamic epic. Most importantly, it also highlights the ideological significance of these decorated speeches of Yahweh to the original audience of the narrator who presumably identified with their excessive optimism and rhetoric. Consequently, this book is a pioneering work in the contemporary study of stylistics, characterizations and functions of attributed speeches in the Hebrew narratives.

Book Discourse Analysis and Applications

Download or read book Discourse Analysis and Applications written by Ronald L. Bloom and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Application of analytic discourse techniques to clinical practice is relatively recent. This book's contributors begin with the notion that systematic examination of discourse provides a rich source of data for describing the complex relationships among language, social context, and the cognitive processes that underlie discourse comprehension and production. Evidence is provided that when discourse is studied across different clinical populations, analysis yields an optimal opportunity for developing dynamic models of brain and language that more thoroughly account for the complexity of language use in social contexts. Accordingly, studies presented in this volume have a dual focus -- to examine the implications of discourse research on neurolinguistic theories and to evaluate the contribution of discourse analysis to understanding the clinical status of patients with brain damage. As such, this volume reports patterns of preserved and impaired discourse behavior in normal adults and in different adult clinical populations. It also describes numerous tasks designed to elicit a variety of discourse genres and a host of techniques created to describe how subjects order information and relate ideas across sentences. In addition, it includes numerous abstract units and linguistic devices targeted to examine those aspects of discourse that govern cohesion, organization, and topic manipulation. This volume is unique because it presents both theoretical and clinical papers that examine a variety of communication pathologies. Clinicians often report dissatisfaction with formal test batteries in that results are often at variance with clinical observation of performance in real life situations. To address this concern, this work proposes methods for examining discourse that move the examiner closer to naturalistic sampling. The research presented demonstrates that discourse analysis provides clinically significant information that contributes to the understanding of the cognitive, linguistic, and social status of people with communication disorders. These studies also offer a framework to support continuously evolving diagnostic and treatment paradigms for adults with neurological communication pathologies.
