Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analogues for the Solution of Boundary-Value Problems considers the simulation of integral methods of solving boundary-value problems. This book is organized into 11 chapters. After the introduction provided in Chapter I, the formulation of some important engineering problems that reduce to the solution of partial differential equations is reviewed in Chapter II. Chapter III covers the mathematical methods for the solution of problems, such as the thermal problem of electrode graphitization and underground coal gasification. The theory of the physical processes of electrical simulation and principles involved in the construction of analogues is elaborated in Chapter IV, while the measurements in electrical analogues is deliberated in Chapter V. Chapters VI to VIII describe the construction of network analyzers and star-integrating networks. The methods of physical simulation for the solution of certain boundary-value problems are analyzed in Chapter IX. Chapters X and XI are devoted to future improvements and developments in analogues for the solution of boundary-value problems. This publication is intended for college students and specialists engaged in solving boundary-value problems.

Book Partial Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems with Applications

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems with Applications written by Mark A. Pinsky and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the basic techniques of separation of variables and Fourier series, the book presents the solution of boundary-value problems for basic partial differential equations: the heat equation, wave equation, and Laplace equation, considered in various standard coordinate systems--rectangular, cylindrical, and spherical. Each of the equations is derived in the three-dimensional context; the solutions are organized according to the geometry of the coordinate system, which makes the mathematics especially transparent. Bessel and Legendre functions are studied and used whenever appropriate throughout the text. The notions of steady-state solution of closely related stationary solutions are developed for the heat equation; applications to the study of heat flow in the earth are presented. The problem of the vibrating string is studied in detail both in the Fourier transform setting and from the viewpoint of the explicit representation (d'Alembert formula). Additional chapters include the numerical analysis of solutions and the method of Green's functions for solutions of partial differential equations. The exposition also includes asymptotic methods (Laplace transform and stationary phase). With more than 200 working examples and 700 exercises (more than 450 with answers), the book is suitable for an undergraduate course in partial differential equations.

Book Ordinary Differential Equations And Boundary Value Problems Volume Ii Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book Ordinary Differential Equations And Boundary Value Problems Volume Ii Boundary Value Problems written by Graef John R and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors give a systematic introduction to boundary value problems (BVPs) for ordinary differential equations. The book is a graduate level text and good to use for individual study. With the relaxed style of writing, the reader will find it to be an enticing invitation to join this important area of mathematical research. Starting with the basics of boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations, linear equations and the construction of Green's functions are presented clearly.A discussion of the important question of the existence of solutions to both linear and nonlinear problems plays a central role in this volume and this includes solution matching and the comparison of eigenvalues. The important and very active research area on existence and multiplicity of positive solutions is treated in detail. The last chapter is devoted to nodal solutions for BVPs with separated boundary conditions as well as for non-local problems. While this Volume II complements , it can be used as a stand-alone work.

Book Navier Stokes Equations in Irregular Domains

Download or read book Navier Stokes Equations in Irregular Domains written by L. Stupelis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analytical basis of Navier-Stokes Equations in Irregular Domains is formed by coercive estimates, which enable proofs to be given of the solvability of the boundary value problems for Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations in weighted Sobolev and Hölder spaces, and the investigation of the smoothness of their solutions. This allows one to deal with the special problems that arise in the presence of edges or angular points in the plane case, at the boundary or noncompact boundaries. Such problems cannot be dealt with in any of the usual ways. Audience: Graduate students, research mathematicians and hydromechanicians whose work involves functional analysis and its applications to Navier-Stokes equations.

Book Analysis of Structures on Elastic Foundation

Download or read book Analysis of Structures on Elastic Foundation written by Levon G. Petrosian and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-06-13 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the static and dynamic analysis of structures on elastic foundation. Through comprehensive analysis, the book shows analytical and mechanical relationships among classic and modern methods of solving boundary value problems. The book provides a wide spectrum of applications of modern techniques and methods of calculation of static and dynamic problems of engineering design. It pursues both methodological and practical purposes, and the accounting of all methods is accompanied by solutions of the specific problems, which are not merely illustrative in nature but may represent an independent interest in the study of various technical issues. Two special features of the book are the extensive use of the generalized functions for describing the impacts on structures and the substantiations of the methods of the apparatus of the generalized functions. The book illustrates modern methods for solving boundary-value problems of structural mechanics and soil mechanics based on the application of boundary equations. The book presents the philosophy of boundary equations and boundary element methods. A number of examples of solving different problems of static and dynamic calculation of structures on an elastic foundation are given according to the methods presented in the book. Introduces a general approach to the method of integral transforms based on the spectral theory of the linear differential operators. The Spectral Method of Boundary Element (SMBE) is developed based on using integral transforms with an orthogonal kernel in the extended domain. Presents a new, versatile foundation model with a number of advantages over the ground-based models currently used in practical calculations. Provides new transforms which will aid in solving various problems relevant to bars, beams, plates, and shells in particular for the structures on elastic foundation. Examines the methods of solving boundary-value problems typical for structural mechanics and related fields.

Book Encyclopaedia of Mathematics

Download or read book Encyclopaedia of Mathematics written by Michiel Hazewinkel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF MATHEMATICS aims to be a reference work for all parts of mathe matics. It is a translation with updates and editorial comments of the Soviet Mathematical Encyclopaedia published by 'Soviet Encyclopaedia Publishing House' in five volumes in 1977-1985. The annotated translation consists of ten volumes including a special index volume. There are three kinds of articles in this ENCYCLOPAEDIA. First of all there are survey-type articles dealing with the various main directions in mathematics (where a rather fine subdivi sion has been used). The main requirement for these articles has been that they should give a reasonably complete up-to-date account of the current state of affairs in these areas and that they should be maximally accessible. On the whole, these articles should be understandable to mathematics students in their first specialization years, to graduates from other mathematical areas and, depending on the specific subject, to specialists in other domains of science, en gineers and teachers of mathematics. These articles treat their material at a fairly general level and aim to give an idea of the kind of problems, techniques and concepts involved in the area in question. They also contain background and motivation rather than precise statements of precise theorems with detailed definitions and technical details on how to carry out proofs and constructions. The second kind of article, of medium length, contains more detailed concrete problems, results and techniques.
