Book Analog digital Computers for Real time Simulation

Download or read book Analog digital Computers for Real time Simulation written by M. E. Connelly and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relative advantages of analog and digital computational techniques as applied to he problem of real-tim aircraft simulation are discussed. T HE HYPOTHESIS IS PRESENT D THAT A BASIC DIGITAL COMPUTER IS FEASIBLE TODAY THAT WOULD COMPETE WITH ANALOG TECHNIQUES ON BOTH COST AND ABILITY TO SIMULATE NATURAL AIRCRAFT FREQUENCIES IN REAL TIME. It is possible that the digital or hybrid computer will supplant the analog computer in those problem classes requiring more than 100 amplifiers. The concept of high-spe time-shared analog computing elements opera ing under the control of a digital computer is introduced. A family of such elements is described as well as various system design studies and experimental demonstration systems. The design of an analog-digital computer utilizing the pulsed-analog concept is outlined. The advantages and disadvantages of floating-point arithmetic are discussed. Illustrative programs are presented for function generation, trigonometric resolution, and the solution of a typical aerodynamic equation. It is concluded that the use of peripheral pulsed-analog equipment would increase the effectiv computing speed of a given digital computer on simulation problems by a factor of two or more. Book The Analogue Alternative

Download or read book The Analogue Alternative written by James S. Small and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are in the midst of a digital revolution - until recently, the majority of appliances used in everyday life have been developed with analogue technology. Now, either at home or out and about, we are surrounded by digital technology such as digital 'film', audio systems, computers and telephones. From the late 1940s until the 1970s, analogue technology was a genuine alternative to digital, and the two competing technologies ran parallel with each other. During this period, a community of engineers, scientists, academics and businessmen continued to develop and promote the analogue computer. At the height of the Cold War, this community and its technology met with considerable success in meeting the urgent demand for high speed computing for use in the design and simulation of rockets, aircraft and manned space vehicles. The Analogue Alternative tracks the development, commercialisation and ultimate decline of the electronic analogue computer in the USA and Britain. It examines the roles played by technical, economic and cultural factors in the competition between the alternative technologies, but more importantly, James Small demonstrates that non-technical factors, such as the role of 'military enterprise' and the working practices of analogue engineers, have been the most crucial in analogue's demise.^l This book will be of interest to students of the history and sociology of science and technology, particularly computing. It will also be relevant to those interested in technical change and innovation, and the study of scientific cultures.

Book Wingless Flight

Download or read book Wingless Flight written by R. Dale Reed, Darlene Lister and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Much has been written about the famous conflicts and battlegrounds of the East during the American Revolution. Perhaps less familiar, but equally important and exciting, was the war on the western frontier, where Ohio Valley settlers fought for the land they had claimed -- and for their very lives. George Rogers Clark stepped forward to organize the local militias into a united front that would defend the western frontier from Indian attacks. Clark was one of the few people who saw the importance of the West in the war effort as a whole, and he persuaded Virginia's government to lend support to his efforts. As a result Clark was able to cross the Ohio, saving that part of the frontier from further raids. Lowell Harrison captures the excitement of this vital part of American history while giving a complete view of George Rogers Clark's significant achievements. Lowell H. Harrison, is a professor emeritus of history at Western Kentucky University and is the author or co-author of numerous books, including Lincoln of Kentucky, A New History of Kentucky, and Kentucky's Governors."

Book Power System Transients

Download or read book Power System Transients written by Juan A. Martinez-Velasco and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the powerful numerical techniques and graphical user interfaces available in present software tools for power system transients, a lack of reliable tests and conversion procedures generally makes determination of parameters the most challenging part of creating a model. Illustrates Parameter Determination for Real-World Applications Geared toward both students and professionals with at least some basic knowledge of electromagnetic transient analysis, Power System Transients: Parameter Determination summarizes current procedures and techniques for the determination of transient parameters for six basic power components: overhead line, insulated cable, transformer, synchronous machine, surge arrester, and circuit breaker. An expansion on papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, this text helps those using transient simulation tools (e.g., EMTP-like tools) to select the optimal determination method for their particular model, and it addresses commonly encountered problems, including: Lack of information Testing setups and measurements that are not recognized in international standards Insufficient studies to validate models, mainly those used in high-frequency transients Current built-in models that do not cover all requirements Illustrated with case studies, this book provides modeling guidelines for the selection of adequate representations for main components. It discusses how to collect the information needed to obtain model parameters and also reviews procedures for deriving them. Appendices summarize updated techniques for identifying linear systems from frequency responses and review capabilities and limitations of simulation tools. Emphasizing standards, this book is a clear and concise presentation of key aspects in creating an adequate and reliable transient model.
