Book Measurements of Unsteady Pressure and Structural Response for an Elastic Supercritical Wing

Download or read book Measurements of Unsteady Pressure and Structural Response for an Elastic Supercritical Wing written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-18 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented which define unsteady flow conditions associated with the high-dynamic structural response of a high-aspect-ratio, elastic, supercritical wing at transonic speeds. The wing was tested in the Langley Transonic Dynamics Tunnel with a heavy gas test medium. The supercritical wing, designed for a cruise lift coefficient of 0.53 at a Mach number of 0.80, experienced the high-dynamic structural response from Mach 0.90 to 0.94 with the maximum response occurring at about Mach 0.92. At the maximum response conditions of the wing, the forcing function appears to be the oscillatory chordwise movement of strong shocks located on the upper and lower surfaces of the wing in conjunction with the flow separation on the lower surface of the wing in the trailing-edge cove region. Book Unsteady Aerodynamic Pressures in Transonic Flow

Download or read book Unsteady Aerodynamic Pressures in Transonic Flow written by L. V. Andrew and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oscillatory pressures as well as total loads were obtained on a 70-degree delta-wing model undergoing sinusoidal pitch rotation in transonic flow. The mach number range was from 0.8 to 1.2, and the maximum reduced frequency (based on centerline half chord) achieved was 0.172. Corresponding pressures were computer using the kernel function method and the doublet/vortex lattice method at subsonic speeds, the sonic box method, and the supersonic mach box method. Both box methods produce point values of potentials that are fitted by surfaces tyo yeld pressures. Comparisomns of the measured and computer pressures show that, in general (and as expected), the computed pressures are higher than the measured values near the leading edge. Also, in general (but unexpected), the computed phase lags between motion of the surface and the pressures generated by the motion are lower than the measure values.

Book Pressure Fluctuations Resulting from an Alternating Flow Separation and Attachment at Transonic Speeds

Download or read book Pressure Fluctuations Resulting from an Alternating Flow Separation and Attachment at Transonic Speeds written by H. L. Chevalier and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigations of unsteady pressures on conecylinder bodies at transonic Mach numbers were conducted in the Propulsion Wind Tunnel Facility (PWT). Static and unsteady pressure measurements were obtained for cone- cylinder bodies with cone half angles of 15, 20, 25, and 30 deg to determine characteristics of the various unsteady flow phenomena. This report presents a detailed analysis of the alternating separation and attachment flow phenomenon that occurs at the shoulder of the cone-cylinder. Results of this analysis indicate that from the static pressure distributions, one may determine the regions of the model to be subjected to unsteady loads, the free-stream Mach number at which this will occur, and the peak-to-peak and root mean square amplitude of these loads. The magnitude of the pressure fluctuations ranges from 0 to 43 percent of the free-stream dynamic pressure, depending on cone angle, angle of attack, and position on the model surface, which correlates with predicted magnitudes from static pressure measurements. Book Handbook of Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Handbook of Fluid Dynamics written by Richard W. Johnson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-06 with total page 1544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Fluid Dynamics offers balanced coverage of the three traditional areas of fluid dynamics—theoretical, computational, and experimental—complete with valuable appendices presenting the mathematics of fluid dynamics, tables of dimensionless numbers, and tables of the properties of gases and vapors. Each chapter introduces a different fluid dynamics topic, discusses the pertinent issues, outlines proven techniques for addressing those issues, and supplies useful references for further research. Covering all major aspects of classical and modern fluid dynamics, this fully updated Second Edition: Reflects the latest fluid dynamics research and engineering applications Includes new sections on emerging fields, most notably micro- and nanofluidics Surveys the range of numerical and computational methods used in fluid dynamics analysis and design Expands the scope of a number of contemporary topics by incorporating new experimental methods, more numerical approaches, and additional areas for the application of fluid dynamics Handbook of Fluid Dynamics, Second Edition provides an indispensable resource for professionals entering the field of fluid dynamics. The book also enables experts specialized in areas outside fluid dynamics to become familiar with the field.
