Book With Respect to the Japanese

Download or read book With Respect to the Japanese written by John C. Condon and published by John Murray Press. This book was released on 2011-01-11 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While Japan has been on center stage of the world economy for decades, interactions between the Japanese and Westerners continue to be on the rise. Daily communication in both business and social settings is commonplace, and connections through the Internet and mobile media make what felt distant only a few years ago seem familiar. Our cultures and social norms remain vastly different, however, and professionals working in Japan are likely to confront new challenges every day. For example, what are the three biggest challenges for Westerners who go to work in Japan? How can you tell when “yes” might mean “no”? When you are the guest in a taxi, who should sit where? In the fully updated second edition of With Respect to the Japanese, readers discover not only answers to basic etiquette questions, but also how to communicate successfully with the Japanese and, in the process, earn mutual respect. John C. Condon and Tomoko Masumoto use real-life examples (from kindergarten classrooms to the boardroom) to explain the contrast between these two distinct cultures. In this essential guide to Japanese culture, you will learn how vital societal characteristics affect communication, decision making, management styles and many other aspects of work and everyday relationships.

Book Introduction to Japanese Politics

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic introduction to the Japanese political system has been revised and updated to take the account of a time of turmoil in the country's political life. It incorporates new coverage of the end of the Koizumi era, the brief and troubled premiership of Abe, and the selection of Fukuda as prime minister. This edition also includes expanded material on "bubble" and "post-bubble" economic developments, as well as all-new coverage of health care policy. The text opens with an overview of Japan's geographical setting and history. The next group of chapters covers political institutions, processes, and actors. Two sections then address the country's distinctive social order and economy, educational, healthcare, and public safety systems. Part five looks at the increasingly contentious realm of foreign relations and security issues, including China's expanding role and the issue of North Korea. A concluding section considers dynamics of change in Japanese politics.

Book The American and Japanese Auto Industries in Transition

Download or read book The American and Japanese Auto Industries in Transition written by Robert Cole and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2020-08-06 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report was prepared for the Policy Board by the U.S. and Japanese research staffs of the Joint U.S.–Japan Automotive Study under the general direction of Professors Paul W. McCracken and Keichi Oshima, with research operations organized and coordinated by Robert E. Cole on the U.S. side, in close communication with the Taizo Yakushiji on the Japanese side. [preface] In view of the importance of stable, long-term economic relationships between Japan and the United States, automotive issues have to be dealt with in ways consistent with the joint prosperity of both countries. Furthermore, the current economic friction has the potential to adversely affect future political relationships. Indeed, under conditions of economic stagnation, major economic issues inevitably become political issues. With these considerations in mind, the Joint U.S.–Japan Automotive Study project was started in September 1981 to determine the conditions that will allow for the prosperous coexistence of the respective automobile industries. During this two-year study, we have identified four driving forces that will play a major role in determining the future course of the automotive industry of both countries. These are: (1) consumers’ demands and aspirations vis-à-vis automobiles; (2) flexible manufacturing systems (FMS); (3) rapidly evolving technology; and (4) the internationalization of the automotive industry. Book Designing the Office of the Future

Download or read book Designing the Office of the Future written by Volker Hartkopf and published by . This book was released on 1993-05-05 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent technological advances in telecommunications, electronics, security, automation, and building control systems create many new challenges for workplace designers. The "workplace of the future" must accommodate these new technologies and changing work styles in appropriate physical, environmental, and organizational settings to enhance worker speed, communication, and overall productivity. The Advanced Building Systems Integration Consortium, an industry-university partnership established at Carnegie Mellon University, is dedicated to researching and developing the quality of the workplace through the innovative use of advanced technologies. This important work reports on the major findings of the multidisciplinary field team in the study of a few key Japanese office buildings. The authors focus on a selected set of design features - components and integrated systems - that herald innovative future trends and stand the test of occupancy evaluation. Designing the Office of the Future provides the general approach of the Advanced Building Systems Integration Consortium (ABSIC) to the building studies and their use towards the development of advanced products and workplaces. The book reports generalized findings from the international building studies in four countries, explains the intellectual framework of the team's approach to defining advanced workplaces, and presents the details of the actual building evaluation process. The book then presents an overview of Japanese trends drawn from the in-depth building studies and other building visits, as well as critical readings and discussions with Japanese leaders in intelligent building design. Other topics covered include theselection of innovative components, systems, and processes identified by the multidisciplinary team in four Japanese buildings - Toshiba Headquarters, NTT Twins Regional Headquarters, the ARK Mori Building, and the Umeda Center building. Designing the Office of the Future then discusses new developments in building design technology, and concludes with a list of major design changes to be introduced into the technologically advanced workplace.
