Book Ramblings Of An Old Codger

Download or read book Ramblings Of An Old Codger written by Larry Edwards and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-12-02 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "You'll understand when you grow up." "Just wait until you have kids." "Well, when I was a kid..." "Just do as I say." "You're going to thank me for this someday." Gap: a space between two people or things; a hole or space where something is missing. (Merriam-Webster) Generation Gap: the difference in opinions, values, etc. between young and older people. (Merriam-Webster) Generation gaps are timeless. The first one was probably between Adam and Eve and their sons Cain and Abel. Occasionally, this gap is used to transmit wisdom from one generation to the next as it was intended. Solomon, possibly the wisest man who ever lived, gave us a whole book of the Bible called Proverbs for the purpose of bridging the wisdom gap between his generation and the next. But even after writing 9,921 profound words, the next generation ended up a divided nation and eventually were conquered. So apparently, a lot of wise words from a really smart guy is no guarantee that one generation will listen and learn from their predecessors. But that didn't stop this author from trying. Instead of just shaking his head and saying, "Kids today!" Larry has consolidated his thoughts and observations of life into a set of "ramblings," sometimes "tongue in cheek," often humorously, but always with the intent to "pass on" practical insights and attitudes to his offspring. Larry admits his error in realizing his duty to "pass on" vital life or death truths came late in his life, but better late than never. This plain, ordinary old dad extols readers to learn from him and to determine to begin their own set of "ramblings." Our original Father even commands us to "pass it on" in Deuteronomy 6:6. Who knows, there may be some people still willing to listen to "an old codger."

Book The Life and Times of Two Old Codgers Part V

Download or read book The Life and Times of Two Old Codgers Part V written by James Gildersleeve and published by Inform-International Forum for Management Systems. This book was released on 2016-11-16 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at the memories of Robin and Jim Gildersleeve during the period 2003-2016 - those memories they have chosen to remember. It is a continuation of their story begun in the book they wrote in 2010: "The Life and Times of Two Old Codgers, A Recounting of Memories Not Yet Forgotten." It picks up following their move from Montclair, Virginia, and covers their days in Durham, North Carolina. The years after this period, and those years skipped, will be covered in future volumes in this series. Robin and Jim recall those years with great satisfaction. After all, these tales have survived their advancing years and their failing memories, and they'd like to think they are worth retelling. As they say up front: "We have greatly enjoyed our time together and these memories are given to you in case you're curious about the adventures these two old codgers have shared. The writing of this book has itself been a joy, as it has enabled us to relive some fun times and helps us remember that life is truly worth living."

Book The Palgrave Encyclopedia of American Horror Film Shorts

Download or read book The Palgrave Encyclopedia of American Horror Film Shorts written by Gary D. Rhodes and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-07-26 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Palgrave Encyclopedia of American Horror Film Shorts chronicles for the first time over 1,500 horror and horror-related short subjects theatrically released between 1915, at the dawn of the feature film era when shorts became a differentiated category of cinema, and 1976, when the last of the horror-related shorts were distributed to movie theaters. Individual entries feature plot synopses, cast and crew information, and – where possible – production histories and original critical reviews. A small number of the short subjects catalogued herein are famous; such as those featuring the likes of Buster Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, The Three Stooges, Bugs Bunny, and Daffy Duck; but the bulk are forgotten. The diverse content of these shorts includes ghosts, devils, witches, vampires, skeletons, mad scientists, monsters, hypnotists, gorillas, dinosaurs, and so much more, including relevant nonfiction newsreels. Their rediscovery notably rewrites many chapters of the history of horror cinema, from increasing our understanding of the sheer number horror films that were produced and viewed by audiences to shedding light on particular subgenres and specific narrative and historical trends.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roanoke, Virginia, is one of America's great historic railroad centers. The Norfolk & Western Railway Company, now the Norfolk Southern Corporation, has been in Roanoke for over a century. Since the company has employed many of the city's African Americans, the two histories are intertwined. The lives of Roanoke's black railroad workers span the generations from Jim Crow segregation to the civil rights era to today's diverse corporate workforce. Older generations toiled through labor-intensive jobs such as janitors and track laborers, paving the way for younger African Americans to become engineers, conductors and executives. Join author Sheree Scarborough as she interviews Roanoke's African American railroad workers and chronicles stories that are a powerful testament of personal adversity, struggle and triumph on the rail.
