Y aunque sigue descendiendo el número de fallecidos y heridos graves por accidentes de tráfico, un colectivo importante de víctimas son los trabajadores mientras desempeñan su actividad profesional1. Estos accidentes pueden ser in itinere (los que sufra el trabajador al ir o volver del lugar de trabajo), o en misión (accidente de tránsito para ejercer su actividad). Los accidentes de tráfico son un problema de salud, según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), y también un problema de salud laboral. Nos encontramos en plena Década de Acción de la Seguridad Vial, declarada por la ONU en el periodo 2010-2020, donde las entidades y empresas tienen un papel activo y fundamental en la reducción de los accidentes de tráfico, por ello, para paliar esta siniestralidad laboral, es preciso que el plan de prevención de la empresa incluya la evaluación de los riesgos de circulación; además se deben adoptar medidas preventivas en este ámbito y verificar su eficacia. Para ello, es imprescindible la formación, información, participación y consulta de los trabajadores en materia de seguridad vial.
