Download or read book An Investigation of Zinc Amalgams and Concentration Cells written by James Llewellyn Crenshaw and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-10 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Investigation of Zinc Amalgams and Concentration Cells: A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Princeton University in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy One of the most serious difficulties encountered by previous investigators has been due to a loss of zinc from the amalgams by oxidation and unless this difficulty is overcome the results are not reliable. The more recent workers paid a great deal of attention to this point, but they were not in a position to know just how successful their precautions were since they were measuring the electromotive force of these amalgams in a concentration cell and this magnitude depends on the rela tive and not on the absolute concentrations of the amalgams so that there might have been a loss of zinc from all of the amalgams in the cells and, provided this loss in each case was proportional to the concentration, there would have been no Change in the electromotive forces of the cells. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Electrode Processes and Electrochemical Engineering

Download or read book Electrode Processes and Electrochemical Engineering written by Fumio Hine and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been planned and written by Dr. Hine with his knowledge and experience in electrochemical science and engineering for over thirty years since he joined with me at Kyoto University in 1948. This book is unique and is useful for engineers as well as scientists who are going to work in any interdisciplinary field connected with elec trochemistry. Science is sure to clarify the truth of nature as well as bring prosperity and an improvement to the welfare of human beings. The origin of the word "science" is the same as of "conscience," which means the truth of our heart. When we consider a scientific and technological subject, first we classify it into the components and/or factors involved, and then we clarify them individually. Second, we combine them to grasp the whole meaning and feature of the subject under discussion. Computers may help us greatly, but how to establish the software that will be most desirable for our purposes is of great importance. We need to make these efforts ourselves, and not decorate with borrowed plumes. With this concept in mind, this book is attractive because the author describes the basic science in electrochemistry and practice, and discusses the electrochemical engineering applications as a combination of science and technology.

Book Metallography and Microstructure in Ancient and Historic Metals

Download or read book Metallography and Microstructure in Ancient and Historic Metals written by David A. Scott and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 1992-01-02 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David A. Scott provides a detailed introduction to the structure and morphology of ancient and historic metallic materials. Much of the scientific research on this important topic has been inaccessible, scattered throughout the international literature, or unpublished; this volume, although not exhaustive in its coverage, fills an important need by assembling much of this information in a single source. Jointly published by the GCI and the J. Paul Getty Museum, the book deals with many practical matters relating to the mounting, preparation, etching, polishing, and microscopy of metallic samples and includes an account of the way in which phase diagrams can be used to assist in structural interpretation. The text is supplemented by an extensive number of microstructural studies carried out in the laboratory on ancient and historic metals. The student beginning the study of metallic materials and the conservation scientist who wishes to carry out structural studies of metallic objects of art will find this publication quite useful.

Book Comprehensive Treatise of Electrochemistry

Download or read book Comprehensive Treatise of Electrochemistry written by Peter Horsman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now time for a comprehensive treatise to look at the whole field of electrochemistry. The present treatise was conceived in 1974, and the earliest invitations to authors for contributions were made in 1975. The completion of the early volumes has been delayed by various factors. There has been no attempt to make each article emphasize the most recent situation at the expense of an overall statement of the modern view. This treatise is not a collection of articles from Recent Advances in Electro chemistry or Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry. It is an attempt at making a mature statement about the present position in the vast area of what is best looked at as a new interdisciplinary field. Texas A & M University John O'M. White Preface to VoluIJJe 8 The past three decades have seen the rapid evolution of the transport aspects of electrochemical engineering into a formal part of electrochemistry as well as chemical engineering. With minor exceptions, however, this subject has not been systematically covered in any treatise or recent electrochemical text. The editors believe that the treatment in this volume will serve the function.
