Book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle Part I Submerged Towing in Clear Water

Download or read book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle Part I Submerged Towing in Clear Water written by Charles W. Sieber and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The submerged towing characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) are examined for a variety of towpoints and ballast conditions. The results indicate that DSRV can be readily towed at speeds up to at least 15 knots from towpoints located on the forward hard ring with vehicle net buoyancies from 0-2000 pounds positive. The hydrodynamic downforce produced by the vehicle without additional appendages such as a depressor is sufficient to produce towing depths of 100-150 feet with less than 500 feet of submerged towline length. Book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV Part III Surfaced and Submerged Towing in a Regular Seaway

Download or read book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV Part III Surfaced and Submerged Towing in a Regular Seaway written by and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surfaced and submerged towing characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) are examined for a variety of towing ship fantail motions and regular waves. The results indicate that under the conditions examined, the DSRV will tow in a dynamically stable and predictable manner and that, in large waves, approaching those of a State 5 sea, a synthetic towline with a breaking strength of at least 150,000 pounds should be used to provide a satisfactory margin of safety against peak tension loads.

Book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV Part II Surface Towing in Calm Water

Download or read book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV Part II Surface Towing in Calm Water written by Charles W. Sieber and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surface towing characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) are examined for a variety of towpoints and ballast conditions. The results indicate that the DSRV may with care be successfully towed on the surface at speeds up to 3.3 knots. Using towpoints located on the forward hard ring, vehicle net buoyancies from 130 to 2730 pounds may be employed. Care must be exercised to avoid the regimes of lateral divergence and spontaneous submergence, the boundaries of each being defined. (Author).

Book An Experimental Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Auxiliary Repair Drydock USS White Sands ARDS1 ex ARD 20

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Auxiliary Repair Drydock USS White Sands ARDS1 ex ARD 20 written by R. M. Knutson and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The towing characteristics of the Auxiliary Repair Drydock, USS WHITE SANDS ARDS1 (ex ARD-20) are examined. Operational considerations are discussed, and a method of improving the directional stability by the addition of skegs is investigated. The stability, towing tensions, and the effects on maneuverability of various skeg arrangements are compared to those of the hull without skegs. The results indicate that skegs will improve the towing performance of WHITE SANDS without severely compromising hull maneuverability. Further information concerning the towing characteristics of the ARD with standard rudders (ARD-30 type configuration) is contained in the Appendix. These results indicate that the rudders do not have sufficient projected area to provide directional stability.

Book The Design of an Experimental Apparatus to Measure the Motions of a Towed Submersible Environmental Sensor Vehicle

Download or read book The Design of an Experimental Apparatus to Measure the Motions of a Towed Submersible Environmental Sensor Vehicle written by Robert A. Granger and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of the motions of a towed submersible sensing vehicle due to external forcing functions of surge and heave is made. Using the U.S. Naval Academy's high speed tow tank facility, experiments were conducted using a half scale model of a current NCSC towed vehicle in which was carried a motion measurement package that measured pitch, roll, yaw, longitudinal and vertical accelerations. Surge and heave displacements at various forcing frequencies and displacements up to + or - 1.0 ft were generated after developing excitation apparatus that would be compatible with the tow tank facility. Effects of tow cable geometry and towing speeds were investigated. A simple mathematical model for heaving motion was developed to lend verification to experimental measurements. An audio-colored visual tape of the experimental study was made showing the salient aspects of the investigation.
