This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Success of any organization largely depends upon its productive workforce. Research has demonstrated that emotional intelligence plays significant role in influencing the performance and productivity of employees at workplace. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and monitor one's own emotions, ability to motivate one self and others and being empathetic to others. Past research studies focus on the importance and linkage of emotional intelligence with job satisfaction and its impact on the job performance and productivity. Still there is significant requirement of research to be conducted in the Indian context to study the relationship between emotional intelligence and employee engagement which has become the topmost challenge for the organizations in today's world of cut throat competition. The paper attempts to investigate the relationship between employee engagement and emotional intelligence among service sector employees. For the purpose of data collection, questionnaires were administered among 92 respondents by targeting service sector organizations located in the region of Jalandhar. Pearson correlation analysis was utilized as a tool to determine the relationship employee engagement and emotional intelligence. The findings of the study indicated that out of four factors which define emotional intelligence viz well-being, self-control, emotionality and sociability, well being had a significant positive relationship with employee engagement while emotionality showed significant negative relationship with employee engagement.

Book The Work Engagement and Job Performance Relationship

Download or read book The Work Engagement and Job Performance Relationship written by Lisa Jackson and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This cross-sectional study examined the mediating effect of affect-related traits on the relationship between work engagement and job performance. Specifically, a sample of 225 students from a large state university was used to examine the effect of trait emotional intelligence (EI) on work engagement and both in-role and extra-role performance. It was found that work engagement directly impacted both in-role and extra-role performance, indicating that engaged workers are more likely to perform well both on job-related tasks (in-role performance) and also on going above and beyond what was expected of them in their job role (extra-role performance). In addition, work engagement was predictive of trait EI, indicating that engaged workers were more likely to use affect-related traits in the workplace than those less engaged. Further, trait EI was predictive of both in-role and extra-role performance, suggesting that effectively managing one's emotions, exhibiting strong social skills, demonstrating self-control, and displaying a general sense of well-being (i.e., trait EI) can lead to improved performance on the job. Lastly, work engagement and both in-role and extra-role performance were partially mediated by trait EI. This study provides new information about trait EI and its effect on job-related behaviors in an applied setting.

Book An Investigation of Leader Emotional Intelligence as a Predictor of Employee Engagement and Retention

Download or read book An Investigation of Leader Emotional Intelligence as a Predictor of Employee Engagement and Retention written by Raed K. Shenaq and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a rapidly evolving workplace, employee retention is crucial to an organization’s success because retaining competent and experienced employees can be a critical aspect for the competitive advantage and performance of organizations in the long term. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among leader’s emotional intelligence (EI), employee engagement (EE), and employee retention (RET) from a subordinate’s perspective among a sample of employees under the direction of a supervisor/leader. In particular, the relationship between the leader’s EI and EE was investigated, and the relationship between EE and their RET was investigated. Additionally, statistical analysis was used to investigate if the relationship between leader EI and RET is moderated and/or mediated by EE. The sample (N=273) participated in an online survey with some demographic items and items measuring leader EI (as measured by the 16-item Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, (WLEIS) EE (as measured by the 9-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, UWES-9), and RET (as measured by the three- item intention to remain scale from Armstrong-Stassen & Ursel, 2009). Survey data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Although this study is not conclusive, it promotes a sense of urgency for organizations to view their process of retraining effective employees in a holistic way (internal as well as external). Further research should examine the leaders’ perceptions of their own EI, the subordinates’ EE, and RET.

Book The Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Leader Performance

Download or read book The Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Leader Performance written by Michael A. Trabun and published by . This book was released on 2002-03-01 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study reflects a comparison of the measured emotional intelligence ability to the evaluated leadership performance of 104 select male and female U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen. Binary logistical regressions were used to analyze the impact of selected explanatory variables on the probability of an individual performing effectively as a squad leader. Separate leader performance models were estimated on the numbers of the sample, and some significant relationships between the EIQ scores and leadership performance were found. The results of this research assessed the utility of the Mayer, Salovey, Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test, Version 2 (MSCEIT v.2) to discriminate between effective leaders as inconclusive, while some scores from the MSCEIT v.2 were found to add to the predictive validity of each of the models. Conclusions and recommendations for further research are provided.
