Book A Study of Stratospheric Emitters Based on Infrared Radiometersonde Measurements

Download or read book A Study of Stratospheric Emitters Based on Infrared Radiometersonde Measurements written by Serhij Pilipowskyj and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of downward-directed infrared irradiances measured in the lower stratosphere indicated that reasonable limits on the gaseous components of the atmosphere were not able to account for the irradiances observed between 14 and 24 km. Additional emitters were therefore assumed to exist at these altitudes. Information on the spatial and temporal distributions of the stratospheric emitter was obtained from an analysis of some 400 measurements taken during the 1962-1967 period. The results indicate that while this phenomenon is global in scope, it is most evident in the tropics at altitudes between 15 and 18 km. Time series of daily radiometersonde ascents carried out during the Line Islands Experiment indicated that the emitter has a high persistence in the tropics. A series of synoptic-scale ascents made over the central United States on one night indicated that the emitter has a great variability in the mid-latitudes. No long-term trends in the concentration of the emitter in the tropics or in the mid-latitudes could be determined. (Author).

Book Measurement of the Infrared Horizon of the Earth

Download or read book Measurement of the Infrared Horizon of the Earth written by R. G. Walker and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiance measurements of the Earth's horizon in three infrared spectral regions were made during two Aerobee rocket flights at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. Preliminary results indicate equivalent blackbody radiation temperatures in the CO2 band (14.0 - 15.6 microns) varied from 231K to 239K; in the atmospheric window region (10.2 - 11.8 microns) from 205K to 287K; and in the rotational water vapor band (19.5 - 31.8 microns) from 206K to 239K. Numerous dropouts due to clouds are apparent in the atmospheric window and water vapor bands, while no such effect is evident in the CO2 band. The infrared radiometer, stellar aspect sensor and vehicle attitude control system are described, and actual traces of the horizon profiles and outputs from the stellar aspect system are included. Book Investigation of the Infrared Emission Spectrum of the Atmosphere and Earth Part Ii Balloon borne Radiometers for Measurements of the Atmospheric Infrared Radiation

Download or read book Investigation of the Infrared Emission Spectrum of the Atmosphere and Earth Part Ii Balloon borne Radiometers for Measurements of the Atmospheric Infrared Radiation written by P. Burkert and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two radiometer systems for balloon-borne application have been designed to investigate the infrared radiation field from the ground up to 30 km and the composition of the upper atmosphere. The first instrument is an eight-channel radiometer for absolute spectral measurements of the upwelling infrared radiation in different atmospheric windows and also in the 6.3 micron water vapor and 9.6 micron ozone band. The second instrument is a radiometer which allows to determine the fraction of solar radiation absorbed infrared bands of various atmospheric gases. It has to be operated from a sun stabilized platform. The report describes the instruments and test results. (Author).

Book Investigation of the Infrared Emission Spectrum of the Atmosphere and Earth Rocket borne Radiometers for Measurements of the Atmospheric Infrared Radiation

Download or read book Investigation of the Infrared Emission Spectrum of the Atmosphere and Earth Rocket borne Radiometers for Measurements of the Atmospheric Infrared Radiation written by W. Bangert and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the contracting period the radiometers for the 1970 Aerobee experiment have been designed and built. Two of the radiometers have been tested in a ballon flight experiment using the AFCRL Balloon Borne Solar Pointer BBSP 2oo. The electronic system for the rocket experiment has been constructed by Ball Brothers Corporation. The solar pointing control SPCS-2 for the Aerobee rocket was also ordered from Ball Brothers Corporation. A performance test for this system was performed in August 1969. A filter radiometer has been designed for measuring the OH airglow emission height profile from aboard the Aerobee rocket. Construction of a prototype instrument is still under way. Therefore only tests on various components have been carried out so far. (Author).
