Book An Investigation of the Log Periodic Antenna as a Leaky Wave Device

Download or read book An Investigation of the Log Periodic Antenna as a Leaky Wave Device written by Frederick T. Halsey and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Near field measurements available in the literature show that two waves exist on log periodic antennas. The first, called the transmission line wave originates at the apex, propagates along the antenna and decays in the active region. The second, called the radiation wave originates in the active region, propagates back toward and beyond the apex, and becomes the far field at a suitable distance in front of the antenna. The hypothesis is made that the effective radiating aperture is located at the front of the active region and is in the plane perpendicular to the antenna structure. The aperture distribution is obtained by considering the radiation wave to behave as a leaky wave in the active region. The far field pattern is found from this aperture distribution using a transform technique. Suitable assumptions are made relating the characteristics of the radiation and transmission line waves in the active region. Thus, the far field pattern can be calculated if the properties of the transmission line wave are known. The transform used is valid only in the half plane to the front of the antenna. Thus, the theory will predict only the shape of the main lobe since no information is obtained regarding the energy radiated to the rear of the antenna. The characteristics of the transmission line wave for the log periodic dipole antenna were measured for various parameters of the antenna and these used to calculate the far field patterns. These calculated patterns were found to show reasonably good agreement with experimentally obtained patterns over the useable range of parameters for this antenna.

Book A Dielectric loaded Leaky Wave Antenna

Download or read book A Dielectric loaded Leaky Wave Antenna written by Jorgen Aasted and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and the measured performance are described of a flat, leaky-wave antenna in which the inductive, leaky surface is backed with a slab of dielectric. The analysis is based on a transverse resonance analysis which determines the physical dimensions of the antenna for a certain specified aperture distribution. An antenna was built to compare the theoretical behavior with the measured performance. Two ways of forming the dielectric to the antenna were tested. When the dielectric was molded in place the radiation pattern agreed very well with the theoretically predicted pattern, but high losses in the casting resin gave a lower gain for the antenna than anticipated. For a machined piece of dielectric, the radiation pattern was not as close to the predicted pattern as for the molded sample, but the gain was close to the predicted value. The antenna consists of a 28-by-18-inch through filled with a dielectric material over which a sheet of parallel wires is strung. At the design frequency, 4.75 gc, the antenna radiates a pencil beam 9.4 by 8.3 degrees wide at an angle of 54 degrees measured from the normal to the inductive surface. The beam can be scanned from approximately 75 degrees down to 12 degrees from the normal to the aperture by changing the frequency from 5.25 gc to 4.20 gc. (Author).

Book An Investigation Into the Potential for Developing a Successful Log Periodic Half Square Antenna with Dual Feed

Download or read book An Investigation Into the Potential for Developing a Successful Log Periodic Half Square Antenna with Dual Feed written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation of a uniformly periodic half square array antenna with dual feed was conducted to provide more information about the potential of the structure as a log-periodic antenna for use by the military. Utilizing the Numerical Electromagnetics Code (NEC), an experimental investigation of the near field characteristics and the far field radiations patterns was conducted on a modeled version of the structure to identify the necessary performance characteristics of a successful log-periodic antenna. In the near field investigation., the Brillouin diagram was used extensively to analyze performance characteristics generated by the K to Beta relationship where Beta was determined from the relative amplitude and phase of the near magnetic field created by the structure under various conditions. The far field radiation patterns were used to check the results of the Brillouin diagram and observe the presence of end and truncation effects.

Book LOG PERIODIC ANTENNA TECHNIQUES

Download or read book LOG PERIODIC ANTENNA TECHNIQUES written by L. G. Bullock and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes several investigations conducted during the past year in the area of log-periodic antennas. The work on inductively loaded, foreshortened log-periodic antennas included measurement of patterns and gains of antenna models which were foreshortened by various amounts. Capacitive top-loading of monopole antennas was also investigated to develop other techniques for log-periodic antenna foreshortening. Finally, a new, flat plate boom configuration for stronger and less expensive construction of log-periodic dipole array antennas is described. (Author).
