Book Women Work and Computerization

Download or read book Women Work and Computerization written by Ellen Balka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ELLENBALKA Simon Fraser University ebalka@Sfu. ca 1. INTRODUCTION In developing the call for papers for the 7th International Federation of Information Processors (IFIP) Women, Work and Computerization Conference, we sought to cast our net widely. We wanted to encourage presenters to think broadly about women, work and computerization. Towards this end, the programme committee developed a call for papers that, in its final form, requested paper submissions around four related themes. These are (1) Setting the Course: Taking Stock of Where We Are and Where We're Going; (2) Charting Undiscovered Terrain: Creating Models, Tools and Theories; (3) Navigating the Unknown: Sex, Time, Space and Place, and (4) Taking the Helm: Education and Pedagogy. Our overall conference theme, 'Charting a Course to the Future' was inspired in part by Vancouver's geography, which is both coastal and mountainous. As such, navigation plays an important part in the lives of many as we seek to enjoy our environs. In addition, as the first Women, Work and Computerization conference of the new millennium, we hoped to encourage the broad community of scholars that has made past Women, Work and Computerization conferences a success to actively engage in imagining--and working towards-- a better future for women in relation to computers. The contributions to this volume are both a reflection of the hard work undertaken by many to improve the situation of women in relation to computerization, and a testament to how much work is yet to be done.

This acceleration in the acceptance of e-commerce not only changes the face of business and retail, but also has introduced new, adaptive business models. The experience of consumers in online shopping and the popularity of the digital marketplace have changed the way businesses must meet the needs of consumers. Book Understanding the Determinants of E commerce Uptake E service Quality and E commerce Success in the UK On line Retail Sector

Download or read book Understanding the Determinants of E commerce Uptake E service Quality and E commerce Success in the UK On line Retail Sector written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary aim of this study is to gain important new insights into e-commerce success, by empirically explorin ghow approaches to e-service quality, when coupled with levels of e-commerce adoption, might affect the overall success of retailers' on-line operations. This study is governed by positivist epistemological perspective, and therefore, it was undertaken using a quantitative research methodology, based upon questionairres. The primary data collection generated a total of 225 useable questionnaires, completed by senior managers, working within the UK's on-line retail sector. Factor analysis and multiple regression analysis were then used to thoroughly explore the relationships between the various constructs, which comprised the research model. The results of the statistical analysis demonstrate that internal factors (e.g. as management strategy and resources) - are a stronger determinant, than external factors, of both. Perhaps more importantly, it has been shown that the perceived success of a retailer's e-commerce operations is also strongly associated with the management approaches to e-service quality and the level of e-commerce adoption. Finally, a mediation analysis provides interesting new insights into the relationship between adoption levels, e-service quality and success : the management approaches to e-service quality significantly mediates the relationship between the level of e-commerce adoption and the perceived e-commerce success.

Book E Commerce Adoption in the Retail Sector

Download or read book E Commerce Adoption in the Retail Sector written by Ralitza Nikolaeva and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Purpose of this paper To investigate the determinants of e-commerce adoption in the retail sector using duration analysis. Design/methodology/approach The study proposes a conceptual model based on technology adoption and population ecology models. It identifies specific determinant factors organized under three areas: perceived benefits, organizational readiness, and external influences. Duration analysis is applied to data on 392 retailers. Findings Organizational readiness and external influences were the main driving factors of the adoption decision. There is no strong support for the perceived benefits construct. This suggests that e-commerce adoption was to a great extent responsive to external pressures. Research limitations/implications Major limitations include insufficient data. Future research can collect other types of data. Other extensions include the investigation of the effect of e-commerce adoption, the construction of a formal theoretical model, and the collection of data from other countries. Practical implications The study provides guidelines to entry anticipation. It appears that many retailers mimetically responded to the online entry of other retailers. Managers should be also aware of the suitability of e-commerce adoption to their organization. In order to be proactive, firms can put more emphasis on internal factors and rely less on outside signals in their strategies. What is original/value of paper The paper investigates the e-commerce adoption decision among retailers using a unique database collected from public sources, avoiding potential subjectivity bias. It traces the timing of e-commerce adoption incorporating both fixed and time-varying covariates.
