Book An investigation of the dynamic response of spur gear teeth with moving loads

Download or read book An investigation of the dynamic response of spur gear teeth with moving loads written by C. E. Passerello and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two concepts relating to gear dynamics were studied. The first phase involved the analysis of the effect of the speed of a moving load on the dynamic deflections of a gear tooth. A single spur gear tooth modelled using finite elements was subjected to moving loads with variable velocities. The tooth tip deflection time histories were plotted, from which it was seen that the tooth tip deflection consisted of a quasistatic response with an oscillatory response superimposed on it whose amplitude was dependent on the type of load engagement. Including the rim in the analysis added flexibility to the model but did not change the general behaviour of the system. The second phase involved an investigation to determine the effect on the dynamic response of the inertia of the gear tooth. A simplified analysis using meshing cantilever beams was used. In one case, the beams were assumed massless, in the other, the mass (inertia) of the beams are included. From this analysis it was found that the inertia of the tooth did not affect the dynamic response of meshing cantilever beams. Book Predicted Effect of Dynamic Load on Pitting Fatigue Life for Low contact ratio Spur Gears

Download or read book Predicted Effect of Dynamic Load on Pitting Fatigue Life for Low contact ratio Spur Gears written by David G. Lewicki and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How dynamic load affects the surface pitting fatigue life of external spur gears was predicted by using NASA computer program TELSGE. Parametric studies were performed over a range of various gear parameters modeling low-contact-ratio involute spur gears. In general, gear life predictions based on dynamic loads differed significantly from those based on static loads, with the predictions being strongly influenced by the maximum dynamic load during contact. Gear mesh operating speed strongly affected predicted dynamic load and life. Meshes operating at a resonant speed or one-half the resonant speed had significantly shorter lives. Dynamic life factors for gear surface pitting fatigue were developed on the basis of the parametric studies. In general, meshes with higher contact ratios had higher dynamic life factors than meshes with lower contact ratios. A design chart was developed for hand calculations of dynamic life factors. Book A Study of Dynamic Loads on Straight Spur Gear Teeth

Download or read book A Study of Dynamic Loads on Straight Spur Gear Teeth written by Paul Jay Umberger and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dynamic loads acting on gear teeth are very complex. To better understand dynamic loads, this research was carried out with the objectives of measuring experimentally dynamic loads and the frictional forces between gear teeth in mesh. By using strain gages mounted on the sides of the teeth, the transverse component of the dynamic load was measured and is shown for all phases of contact. Using the transverse component at the pitch radius, the dynamic load ratios were computed and found to be substantially lower than predicted by the Buckingham equation. However, sufficient information for evaluating the frictional force was not obtained and further research will be required to evaluate the radial component of the dynamic load. (Author).

Book Minimizing the Dynamic Load of High Contact Ratio Spur Gear Using Profile Modification

Download or read book Minimizing the Dynamic Load of High Contact Ratio Spur Gear Using Profile Modification written by Srijana Shah and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major concern in the design of power transmission gear is the reduction of gear dynamic load. Research on gear noise and vibration has revealed that the basic mechanics of noise generated from gearing is gear box vibration excited by the dynamic load. This thesis studies the effect of tooth spacing errors on the dynamic load of high contact ratio spur gear subjected to unideal loading conditions. Spur gear is the simplest kind gear available. Spur gears have their teeth parallel to the axis of rotation and are used for transmitting power between two parallel shafts. Three types of spacing error distribution are defined and studied: type I (short span), type II (medium span), and type III (long span). Three different kinds of modification have been considered: linear, parabolic 1, parabolic II. The range of loading is changed from 0.75 times to 1.25 times of design load which is 2200 lb.-inch. A computer simulation has been conducted to investigate the effectiveness of profile modification for reducing dynamic loads in high-contact-ratio gears with different tooth spacing errors. The simulation examined varying amplitudes of spacing errors and differences in the span of teeth over which the errors occur. The dynamic analysis was performed using a revised version of a NASA gear dynamics code, modified to take into consideration the tooth spacing errors in the dynamic analysis. The findings of this study can be used to design robust tooth profile modification for improving the dynamic performance of high-contact-ratio gear sets with different tooth spacing errors when subjected to unideal loading condition.

Book Using Dynamic Analysis for Compact Gear Design

Download or read book Using Dynamic Analysis for Compact Gear Design written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents procedures for designing compact spur gear sets with the objective of minimizing the gear size. The allowable tooth stress and dynamic response are incorporated in the process to obtain a feasible design region. Various dynamic rating factors were investigated and evaluated. The constraints of contact stress limits and involute interference combined with the tooth bending strength provide the main criteria for this investigation. A three-dimensional design space involving the gear size, diametral pitch, and operating speed was developed to illustrate the optimal design of spur gear pairs. The study performed here indicates that as gears operate over a range of speeds, variations in the dynamic response change the required gear size in a trend that parallels the dynamic factor. The dynamic factors are strongly affected by the system natural frequencies. The peak values of the dynamic factor within the operating speed range significantly influence the optimal gear designs. The refined dynamic factor introduced in this study yields more compact designs than AGMA dynamic factors.
