Book The Tensile and Shear Bond Strengths of Poly Methyl Methacrylate Processed on Electrolytically Etched Ticonium

This book was released on 1986 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retention of acrylic denture resins to metal based dentures and removable partial dentures has been accomplished using beads, nail heads, open ladders, or some other macroscopic retentive design. Such retentive configurations may often encroach upon limited interarch space. Additionally, the adequacy of retentive strength found with these methods has been questioned. An alternative to the macroscopic retentive designs had been reported in a technique for relining metal based dentures. This technique suggests the electrochemical etching of base metals, normally associated with metal-etched resin-bonded restorations, as a retentive system for denture acrylic resins. This form of microscopic retention may provide an improvement over the disadvantages of interarch space and retentive bond strength reported with macroscopic designs. The retentive strength of composite resin materials to electrolytically etched based metals has been reported. While these bond strengths have been high, the retentive strength of denture acrylic resin to electrochemically etched based metals has not been investigated. The purpose of this thesis was to examine the retentive bond strength of a denture acrylic resin to an electrochemically etched base metal in comparison to conventional retentive heads. Book Extra Coronal Restorations

Download or read book Extra Coronal Restorations written by Robert Wassell and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a state of the art clinical guide to contemporary materials and techniques for the restoration of individual teeth and implants. It fully reflects the important developments in the field over the past 15 years, including in particular the shift away from wholesale use of crowns towards adhesive dentistry and less invasive extra-coronal restorations. The book opens by considering the principles and evidence base relating to the longevity of restorations of teeth and implants. Importantly, it explains how to ensure “a healthy start” and manage future risks. Material choice and aesthetic issues are then discussed, before all aspects of the planning and provision of extra-coronal restorations are examined in depth. The coverage also includes the adaptation of crowns to existing partial dentures. In line with modern dental education, each chapter begins with clinically relevant learning objectives, and helpful clinical tips are highlighted. The book will be of value for senior dental undergraduates, postgraduates, and practicing dentists and its scientific content will be of interest to dental academics.

Abstract: Abstract 1 ABSTRACT Purpose: To investigate effects of metal thicknesses and surface treatment methods on the shear bond strength of a dual cured composite resin bonded to three different ceramo-metal dental alloys: nickel-chromium, high-gold and high-palladium dental alloys. Materials and Methods: A dual-cured adhesive composite resin was used to bond dental metal alloy plates of different thickness, composition and surface treatment to acid etched bovine enamel. The specimens (n=180) were stored in water for 24 hours and then loaded in shear with a universal testing machine to failure and bond strengths were recorded. Results: Using ANOVA, the mean shear bond strength for nickel chromium was found to be significantly higher than the other two noble metals (P0.05). Heat treatment of the noble metals showed no significant difference in bond strength compared with sandblasted samples (P>0.05). There was a significant increase in mean shear bond strength with increase in metal 1 Abstract thickness from 0.5mm to 0.7mm (PConclusion: Within the limitations of this study, resin-bonded metal alloy restorations with thickness of 0.7mm or more are preferred over 0.5mm thickness. The differences in shear bond strength between the two noble alloys and the nickel chromium alloy is likely due to the lack of suitable metal oxide. Heat treatment of precious metal alloys did not increase the bond strength to etched enamel and therefore further studies should investigate the use of copper containing gold and non-gold noble alloys which are thought to create suitable oxides for bonding. The relationship between composition of metal alloy, method of surface treatment and the choice of adhesive primer should be carefully considered before clinical use. Book The Effect of Surface Treatments and Bonding Agents on the Shear Bond Strengths of Orthodontic Brackets Bonded to Aged Composite Resin Restorations

Download or read book The Effect of Surface Treatments and Bonding Agents on the Shear Bond Strengths of Orthodontic Brackets Bonded to Aged Composite Resin Restorations written by Matthew Yun Sun Tse and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objective: To compare the mean bond strengths and mode of bond failure, in vitro, of five bonding systems (MIP 1, Plastic Conditioner 2, Assure 2, Scotchbond 3, and Transbond XT 1), when bonding an orthodontic bracket to an artificially-aged composite resin restoration, with and without mechanical surface preparation with a diamond bur. Methods: Class V buccal composite resin restorations were prepared in 240 upper right central incisor dentoform teeth. The restorations were artificially age d for 35 days, bonded with metal brackets, stored in distilled water at 37°C for 30 days, thermocycled for 500 cycles, and subsequently debonded with an Instron universal testing machine. Results: The mean bond strengths for Transbond, MIP, Plastic Conditioner, Assure, and Scotchbond groups were 12.1, 12.3, 13.3, 17.2, and 17.7 MPa respectively. The mean bond strengths for Transbond+Diamond, MIP+Diamond, Plastic Conditioner+Diamond, Assure+Diamond, and Scotchbond+Diamond groups were 18.5, 16.4, 19.1, 19.5, and 20.7 MPa respectively. ANOVA revealed a statistically significant diffe rence (P d"0.05) among the groups. Conclusions: Mechanically roughening the surface of a composite resin restoration with a diamond bur, provided significantly greater bond strengths, regardless of the bonding resin used. However, Assure and Scotchbond, without diamond bur preparation, provided similar bond strengths to Transbond, MIP and Plastic Conditioner, with diamond bur preparation. 1. 3M Unitek, Monrovia CA 2. Download or read book Evaluation of Retention of Maxillary Anterior Resin Bonded Retainers written by anoop nair and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-07 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conventional procedures for the preparation of abutment teeth often involve major removal of tooth structure. However, when the abutment teeth are sound, conventional full coverage procedures seem quite radical. The resin-bonded fixed partial dentures have gained immense popularity in recent years as they are more conservative, esthetic, economic and easily fabricated. However debonding is considered the most common cause of failure of resin bonded prosthesis. Improvement have been suggested for resin bonded prosthesis techniques that are related to both clinical and laboratory phases to reduce debonding. The objective of the study were to compare the effects of different groove lengths and thickness of retainers on retention of maxillary anterior base metal resin bonded retainers.
