This book was released on 1964 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to identity clothing purchasing habits of women 60 years of age and over. Data for this study were obtained from a questionnaire administered to 94 women, 60 years of age and over, living in Portland, Corvallis, and Eugene, Oregon. The sample was analyzed on the basis of two age groups (60 to 69 and 70 and over), three income groups (less than $999, $1000 to $1999, and $2000 and over), and three education groups (less than high school, high school, and more than high school). The chi square test was used to determine if there were relationships between clothing purchasing habits and the factors of age, income, and education of this age group. Age, income, and education were related to certain aspects of the purchasing habits of women 60 years of age and over. There was a significant relationship between the factors of age and income and whether the women enjoyed shopping for dresses. Age and education had significant relationships when analyzed with the frequency of looking at magazines, catalogues, newspapers, pattern books, or displays. There was a significant relationship between income and education and the frequency of buying a dress after first seeing it pictured in a a catalogue, a newspaper, or a window display. Age and income were important factors in whether the women wished stores carried a wider selection from which to choose. Older women have an interest in clothing. Comfort and fit were found to be the most important factors to consider in the selection of a dress. The majority of the women shopped for dresses in department stores which were located in their home towns. Most of the women shopped by themselves and preferred to do so. The majority of the women wanted their dresses to be of the current fashion trends, and many of the women were able to find styles that they liked to wear.

Book The Relationship of Clothing Attitudes of Three Groups of Women to Age and Level of Husband s Position

Download or read book The Relationship of Clothing Attitudes of Three Groups of Women to Age and Level of Husband s Position written by Martha Goetz Waldemar and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this problem was to compare young, middle-aged, and older women's attitudes concerning clothing, and to see what influence the husband's position and income had on the clothing attitudes of the wife. The problem dealt with five specific aspects of women's dress: (1) appropriate dress, (2) impressing others, (3) fashion interest, (4) confidence in selection of clothing, and (5) effect wife's role had on her wardrobe. The data for this study was obtained through the use of a questionnaire in a structured interview. The 75 subjects were wives of college graduates that were working in or toward a management position within a large manufacturing company in Portland, Oregon. Eleven companies manufacturing industrial equipment participated in the study. The questionnaire was composed of 21 questions used in previous research and 21 questions written for this study. The chi-square test was used to determine the relationship between age and income and attitudes toward clothing. The wife's education was also tested to see if it was an influencing factor on the above attitudes. Analysis of the data showed that significantly more younger women were concerned about what to wear than the other age groups, and that they knew the least about the designers. More of them also had less confidence in selecting a garment to wear. More of the middle-aged women knew the most about fashion designers, and had confidence in the selection of a garment. There were more significant differences between the levels of husband's position than in either wife's age or wife's education. Analysis showed subjects in the lowest income group had high interest in prestige items and wore the same outfit fewer times. More of them had less interest in reading fashion magazines, knew less about fashion designers, and had less confidence in selecting a garment than the other two income groups. Significantly more of the high income group owned prestige items, wore the same outfit many times, had a strong desire for exclusiveness, had a high interest in reading fashion magazines, and recognized more of the fashion designers names than the other two income groups. More of the women with the high school education wore the same outfit the most times, and knew less about fashion designers. They had less confidence in their selection of a garment. More of the women with the vocational or business school training had the highest confidence in the selection of a garment. The women with a college degree knew more about fashion designers. There were more women who pursued a role of home orientation and fewer were socially-oriented. More of the home and socially-oriented wives were highest in the types of activities participated in and their reasons for participation. More of the home-oriented wives were rated low in their reasons for participation. More of the socially-active women were influenced in their clothing selection by outside sources.

Book A Guide for an Adequate Wardrobe for Specific Occasions Encountered by Women Students Attending Oregon State University

Download or read book A Guide for an Adequate Wardrobe for Specific Occasions Encountered by Women Students Attending Oregon State University written by Linda Courtney Thiel and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is a study of the types and numbers of items of apparel in a selected group of Oregon State University women's present college wardrobes and in a college wardrobe they consider to be adequate, the occasions for which each type of clothing is worn, the amount of time each type of clothing is worn, and the percentage of the clothing budget to be spent for each type of clothing. This study was selected because the present information concerning wardrobe needs available to students entering Oregon State University is very limited. Letters were sent to the Deans of Women at 39 colleges and universities in Oregon, Washington, and northern California to determine the amount and type of information concerning clothing that is available to women entering these institutions. The 35 replies received indicated that one college sends incoming women students a suggested list of minimum and average numbers of items of apparel for their college wardrobes; 13 colleges or universities have publications containing specific information on types of clothing for various occasions, (similar to the information found in Oregon State University's student handbook); 14 colleges or universities have a publication which mentions clothing, and eight colleges or universities have no information available concerning clothing. . Although little information is available to the college student, the literature reviewed stressed the importance of clothing to the present day university woman. A review of studies concerning the psychological and sociological significance of clothing show that if a woman student has a wardrobe that is adequate for the occasions which arise, she will feel more at ease, be less concerned about her appearance, and therefore, she will be better able to meet the demands of college life. According to one study reviewed, high school girls think that college women need more clothing than college women consider necessary. Since research found that women buy most of their clothing before they enter college, information concerning a college wardrobe seemed to be an evident need before they arrive on campus. Other studies pointed out that talking to college women was the best source of information on college wardrobe needs. Therefore, a selected group of women students on the Oregon State University campus was contacted through interviews and questionnaires for their advice regarding a college wardrobe. Twelve junior or senior women majoring in Clothing, Textiles, and Related Arts were interviewed to ascertain the current terminology used by women students to describe their clothing and the occasions for which each type of clothing was worn. This information was used in the preparation of a questionnaire. Questionnaires were given to 283 sophomore and junior women students who were registered in the School of Home Economics, had completed a course in clothing selection, and had been admitted to Oregon State University no later than fall term, 1966. Questionnaires were returned by 147 students, and 113 questionnaires met the established criteria. This was a 40 percent useable return of the total number of questionnaires distributed. The data from these questionnaires was compiled by computer and analyzed by the writer. The data revealed that the respondents owned a mean of 154.92 items of apparel, and they thought a mean of 148. 30 items of apparel would be adequate. The sorority women owned more of all types of clothing than did the non - sorority women, and the quantity the sorority women considered to be adequate for all seven types of clothing exceeded the quantity considered adequate by the non -sorority women. However, 81.98 percent of the respondents indicated their present wardrobes were adequate for the occasions they had encountered at Oregon State University. The total cost for an adequate wardrobe as indicated by the respondents was a mean of $1708.73. The percentage of the clothing budget to be spent for each type of clothing was allocated by the respondents as follows: 41.20 percent for campus apparel, 21.37 percent for church or dressy apparel, 9.63 percent for unclassified apparel (undergarments, hosiery, nightwear and loungewear), 9.16 percent for formal apparel, 8.88 percent for casual apparel, 5. 27 percent for semi - formal apparel, and 4.49 percent for grubby apparel. The respondents reported that they wore each type of clothing the following percentage of the time during a school year: campus apparel, 37. 09 percent; casual apparel, 26.96 percent; grubby apparel, 26.89 percent; church or dressy apparel, 7.86 percent; semi -formal apparel, .85 percent; and formal apparel, . 35 percent. The percentage of the clothing budget to be spent for each type of clothing (excluding unclassified apparel) was compared to the percentage of the time each type of clothing was worn, but the percentages were not the same for any of the six types of clothing. Campus clothing was worn the highest percentage of the time and was also designated the highest percentage of total cost; semi -formal apparel ranked fifth in both categories, but there was no correlation between the percentage of time the other types of clothing were worn and the percentage of total cost designated for each. A total of 67 women or 59.82 percent of the respondents said they brought some clothing to the campus they did not need, and 89 women or 79.46 percent of the respondents reported they needed some items of apparel they did not bring to the campus. Eleven of the 12 women interviewed indicated the wardrobe requirements would be the same for a woman entering Oregon State University as a freshman, sophomore or junior. Therefore, the writer recommended that the findings of this study, specifically a list of the items of apparel to be included in an adequate wardrobe, should be made available to women students entering Oregon State University.

Book Occupational Therapy Practice Framework Domain and Process

Download or read book Occupational Therapy Practice Framework Domain and Process written by Aota and published by AOTA Press. This book was released on 2014 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As occupational therapy celebrates its centennial in 2017, attention returns to the profession's founding belief in the value of therapeutic occupations as a way to remediate illness and maintain health. The founders emphasized the importance of establishing a therapeutic relationship with each client and designing an intervention plan based on the knowledge about a client's context and environment, values, goals, and needs. Using today's lexicon, the profession's founders proposed a vision for the profession that was occupation based, client centered, and evidence based--the vision articulated in the third edition of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process. The Framework is a must-have official document from the American Occupational Therapy Association. Intended for occupational therapy practitioners and students, other health care professionals, educators, researchers, payers, and consumers, the Framework summarizes the interrelated constructs that describe occupational therapy practice. In addition to the creation of a new preface to set the tone for the work, this new edition includes the following highlights: a redefinition of the overarching statement describing occupational therapy's domain; a new definition of clients that includes persons, groups, and populations; further delineation of the profession's relationship to organizations; inclusion of activity demands as part of the process; and even more up-to-date analysis and guidance for today's occupational therapy practitioners. Achieving health, well-being, and participation in life through engagement in occupation is the overarching statement that describes the domain and process of occupational therapy in the fullest sense. The Framework can provide the structure and guidance that practitioners can use to meet this important goal.
