Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a large part of the 20th century, until their closure in 1994, the ship model testing tanks at Teddington and Feltham played a major role in the design and development of merchant ships as we now know them. This is a record of the research and test programmes conducted there.

Book Maritime Technology and Engineering III

Download or read book Maritime Technology and Engineering III written by Carlos Guedes Soares and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 1226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maritime Technology and Engineering 3 is a collection of papers presented at the 3rd International Conference on Maritime Technology and Engineering (MARTECH 2016, Lisbon, Portugal, 4-6 July 2016). The MARTECH Conferences series evolved from biannual national conferences in Portugal, thus reflecting the internationalization of the maritime sector. The keynote lectures and the papers, making up nearly 150 contributions, came from an international group of authors focused on different subjects in a variety of fields: Maritime Transportation, Energy Efficiency, Ships in Ports, Ship Hydrodynamics, Ship Structures, Ship Design, Ship Machinery, Shipyard Technology, afety & Reliability, Fisheries, Oil & Gas, Marine Environment, Renewable Energy and Coastal Structures. This book will appeal to academics, engineers and professionals interested or involved in these fields.

Download or read book The Maritime Engineering Reference Book written by Anthony F. Molland and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-10-13 with total page 921 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Maritime Engineering Reference Book is a one-stop source for engineers involved in marine engineering and naval architecture. In this essential reference, Anthony F. Molland has brought together the work of a number of the world's leading writers in the field to create an inclusive volume for a wide audience of marine engineers, naval architects and those involved in marine operations, insurance and other related fields. Coverage ranges from the basics to more advanced topics in ship design, construction and operation. All the key areas are covered, including ship flotation and stability, ship structures, propulsion, seakeeping and maneuvering. The marine environment and maritime safety are explored as well as new technologies, such as computer aided ship design and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).Facts, figures and data from world-leading experts makes this an invaluable ready-reference for those involved in the field of maritime engineering.Professor A.F. Molland, BSc, MSc, PhD, CEng, FRINA. is Emeritus Professor of Ship Design at the University of Southampton, UK. He has lectured ship design and operation for many years. He has carried out extensive research and published widely on ship design and various aspects of ship hydrodynamics. * A comprehensive overview from best-selling authors including Bryan Barrass, Rawson and Tupper, and David Eyres* Covers basic and advanced material on marine engineering and Naval Architecture topics* Have key facts, figures and data to hand in one complete reference book

Book The Squat of Full Ships in Shallow Water

Download or read book The Squat of Full Ships in Shallow Water written by I. W. Dand and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of sinkage and trim while underway in shallow water (squat) is discussed and its accurate assessment for the large ships of today is shown to be important. Some results of experiments to measure the squat of full-form ship models are presented and discussed and a semi-empirical theory is developed which predicts model results with reasonable accuracy. Full-scale measurements of squat have been obtained on a number of ships. The method by which this has been accomplished is described and some results are presented. These in turn are compared with model and theoretical predictions and the measure of agreement obtained is encouraging.

Book Ship Stability for Masters and Mates

Download or read book Ship Stability for Masters and Mates written by D. R. Derrett and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1990-01-01 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This well-established textbook has been fully reviewed and updated by a new author to ensure a modern coverage of the contents in depth. A new unique introduction has been written, giving ship types together with their general characteristics, to indicate to the reader actual or typical sizes of modern day merchant vessels. Four new chapters have been added dealing with Ship Squat, the Deadweight scale, Interaction and The Trim and Stability book. A new section, on Draft Surveys, is included in the Appendices. In order to give the student a better understanding of ship strength, four smaller but more detailed chapters replace the chapter covering this subject area in the previous edition. Ship Stability, with respect to motions, can be defined as the ability of a ship to return to an initial condition after she has been subjected to disturbing forces and moments. Ship Stability can also exist with respect to materials stresses and forces, where it is the ability to return to an initial state after being subjected to external or internal forces. Careful attention has been paid to the basic principles of ship stability and ship strength. Included is a generous provision of worked examples and exercise questions with answers. These ensure that the maritime student who works through this book will have a clear grasp of the topics covered. Up-to-date syllabuses and recent examination papers are included at the end of this book.
