Book An Investigation Into the Scaling Confidence of Floating Tire Breakwater Model Tests

Download or read book An Investigation Into the Scaling Confidence of Floating Tire Breakwater Model Tests written by William Lloyd Nelson and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As outlined in the introduction, this study applies the techniques of dimensional analysis to compare the performance of a relatively new floating breakwater. In this chapter, the pertinent theoretical modeling considerations are reviewed. Additionally, floating breakwater nomenclature, their attenuation mechanisms, and the Goodyear prototype are introduced. (Author).

Book Prototype Scale Mooring Load and Transmission Tests for a Floating Tire Breakwater

Download or read book Prototype Scale Mooring Load and Transmission Tests for a Floating Tire Breakwater written by Michael L. Giles and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prototype scale tests of the mooring load and wave transmission characteristics of a floating tire breakwater were conducted in the large wave tank at the Coastal Engineering Research Center. Standard Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. 18-tire modules connected to form breakwaters, 4 and 6 modules (8.5 and 12.8 meters, 28 and 42 feet) wide in the direction of wave advance, were tested in water depths of 2 and 4 meters (6.56 and 13.12 feet). Monochromatic waves with a 2.64- to 8.25-second period range and heights up to 1.4 meters (4.6 feet) were used in the tests. Test results indicate that wave transmission is mainly a function of the breakwater width to incident wavelength ratio with a slight dependence on the incident wave height. However, the mooring forces are mainly a function of the incident wave height with only a slight dependence on the incident wavelength and breakwater width. Recommended design curves for the wave transmission coefficient versus breakwater width to wavelength ratio and mooring load as a function of incident wave height are presented. (Author).

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 23 (thesis year 1978) a total of 10,148 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 220 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 23 reports these submitted in 1978, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Model Tests on the CERC Full Scale Test Floating Breakwater

Download or read book Model Tests on the CERC Full Scale Test Floating Breakwater written by Alf Torum and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Model tests with a floating breakwater in short-crested waves have been performed in scale 1:10. The breakwater is a model of a 2-pontoon CERC prototype. 2 versions are tested: fendered and stiff. Some tests in long-crested waves are also included. Wave elevation, anchor line forces, breakwater motions and hydrodynamic pressures have been measured. Simple numerical simulations of forces and motions are made. Experimental wave reduction is studied through maximum and RMS values and wave spectra. Wave transmission varies from 30% for 2s waves to approx 100% for 6s waves (full scale). Control of wave statistics and grouping is included. Waves in front of the model is also studied. Maximum and RMS values, auto- and cross-spectra, linear transfer functions and amplitude statistics of forces and motions are presented. The maximum force in a single sensor was 102 kN, while in a single anchor line it was larger than 150 kN. Non-linearities in motions and forces result in significantly larger extremes than predicted by linear theory. Norway. (fr).
