Book The Social Psychology of Female Male Relations

Download or read book The Social Psychology of Female Male Relations written by Richard D. Ashmore and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Social Psychology of Female-Male Relations: A Critical Analysis of Central Concepts covers the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours of individuals in social interaction and explicitly considers women and men in relation to one another - as individuals, as representatives of social categories, and as significant social groups. Chapter One lays out the parameters of the social psychology of female-male relations. Chapter Two contains two major insights: that gender identity is a complex, multifaceted construct and that the structure and degree of differentiation of gender identity develop and change over the life course. Chapters Three and Four present a relatively general cognitive social-psychological framework for two important constructs, sex stereotypes and gender-related attitudes. Chapter Five offers a critique of analyses that explain the behavior of women and men in close, personal relationships in terms of sex differences in the individual dispositions of the participants. Chapter Six presents a strong and straightforward critique of the current usage of the term sex role to describe a global set of behavioral prescriptions that apply to all women and to all men. Chapter Seven presents a comprehensive review of research on gender-related patterns of behavior in task groups that cannot be found elsewhere. The concluding chapter summarizes points made in earlier chapters and offers a set of notes toward a theory of female-male relations. Social scientists (especially, psychologists, sociologists, and anthropologists) doing research on women, on men, or on women and men in relationships or in social interaction.

Book The Relationship of Gender and Perceived Sex Role Identity to the Leadership Style Range and Adaptability of Selected Graduate Students

Download or read book The Relationship of Gender and Perceived Sex Role Identity to the Leadership Style Range and Adaptability of Selected Graduate Students written by James Keith Wall and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the relationship and strength of association of the two independent variables of gender (male, female) and perceived sex role identity (masculine, androgynous, feminine, and undifferentiated) on the leadership style, leadership range (number of back-up styles), and leadership adaptability (effectiveness) of nonforeign graduate students at a Land Grant Institution. A sex role scale (The Personal Attribute Questionnaire) and a leadership scale (The Leader Effectiveness and Adaptability Description) were administered to a randomly selected sample of 700 (350 males, 350 females) graduate students. Usable responses were obtained from 65 percent (455) of the subjects. Chi-square, Cramer's V, and lambda analyses were performed on the categorical data. A significant relationship (.05 level) and low strength of association was found between males and females and their selection of a primary leadership style and their leadership range or the number of support styles. Males tended to select an instrumental (task oriented) and females an expressive (relationship oriented) primary style and males in this study tended to utilize a broader range of back-up or support styles. No significant difference or strength of relationship was found between gender and effectiveness. In terms of perceived sex role identity alone, no significant difference or strength of relationship was found in leadership style, range, or effectiveness. When gender and sex role identity were combined, stronger significant differences were found in the selection of a primary leadership style (.05 to .01) and leadership range (.05 to .02). Also, when combined, a significant difference (.05) was found in effectiveness which was not observed when gender and sex role identity were examined separately. There was no support in this study that androgynous persons (those high in both expressive and instrumental orientations) were any more flexible (as measured by range) or effective (as measured by adaptability) than nonandrogynous persons. The findings further suggest that sex role studies which do not differentiate by gender may, in fact, be measuring primarily the effect of gender and not sex role identity. Recommendations for further research were suggested by the findings. 530 Also available on the World Wide Web.

This book was released on 2024-03-18 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education is one of the most authentic tool for socio-economic mobility and a key instrument for building an equitable, just and human society. It aims at developing enviable character image in the student rather than imposing a quantum of knowledge. Being an integrative force in society, education can impart values, provide skills and competencies to students, and foster social cohesion and national identity. The task of education is to inculcate desirable psychological and affective qualities among students along with cognitive advancement. By considering these aspects, the investigator judiciously develops two value based strategies namely UNIQUE Strategy and BAND Strategy based on the existing pedagogical strands to ensure effective value education at higher secondary level.

Book Identity Processing Style and Sex role Identity Predict Attachment Style and Psychosocial Balance

Download or read book Identity Processing Style and Sex role Identity Predict Attachment Style and Psychosocial Balance written by Michael M. Pratt and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differences in relationship style scores (secure, fearful, preoccupied, dismissing) and psychosocial balance scale scores (basic trust, autonomy, identity, intimacy, generativity) were examined as a function of identity style (informational, normative, diffuse/avoidant), sex-role identity (feminine, masculine, androgynous, undifferentiated), age (young adult, middle adult, late adult), and gender. Three hundred and eighty-eight participants (166 men and 222 women) completed self-report questionnaires designed to measure the relevant constructs. Results indicated that identity processing style did not prove to be significantly related to relationship style or psychosocial balance scores. However, differences in sex-role identity were predictive of different patterns of scores on the relationship style measure and the psychosocial balance measure. In addition, the secure relationship style was positively predictive of all five psychosocial balance scale scores. These findings suggest that identity processing style may play a lesser role than sex-role identity classification in determining patterns of differences in relationship styles and psychosocial adjustment.
