Book excerpt: Concrete as a construction material goes through both physical and chemical changes under extreme elevated temperatures. As one of the most widely used building materials, it is important that both engineers and architects are able to understand and predict its behavior in under extreme heat conditions. Brief and readable, this book provides the tools and techniques to properly analysis the effects of high temperature of reinforced concrete which will lead to more stable, safer structures. Based on years of the author's research, Reinforced Concrete at Elevated Temperatures four part treatment starts with an unambiguous and thorough exposition of the mechanical behaviors of materials at elevated temperature followed by a discussion of Temperature field of member sections, Mechanical behaviors of members and structures at elevated temperature, ending with Theoretical analysis and practical calculation methods. The book provides unique insight into: - Coupling thermal-mechanical constitutive relation of concrete - Exceptional analyses of beams and columns of rectangular section with three surfaces and two adjacent surfaces exposing to high temperature - Measurement and analysis of redistribution of internal forces of statically indeterminate structure during heating-loading process - Finite element analysis and calculation charts for two-dimensional temperature field of structural members - Finite element analysis and simplified calculation method for reinforced concrete structure at elevated temperature With this book, engineers and architects can effectively analyze the effect of high temperature on concrete and materials which will lead to better designs of fire resistant and damage evaluation and treatment after fire. - Tools and techniques for analyzing the effects of high temperature on concrete and reinforcement materials - Measurement and analysis of redistribution of internal forces of statically indeterminate structure during the heating-loading process - Finite element analysis and calculation charts for two-dimensional temperature field of structural members - Finite element analysis and simplified calculation method for reinforced concrete structure at elevated temperature

Book Elasto Plastic Damage Behaviour of Concrete Elements

Download or read book Elasto Plastic Damage Behaviour of Concrete Elements written by Hidenori Tanaka and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-04-03 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elasto-Plastic Damage Behaviour of Concrete Elements presents the results of practical experiments with numerical analyses and case studies, along with a summary of basic theory, to provide an accessible explanation for young practising engineers on the performance evaluation of concrete structures. It shows how the mechanical phenomena of familiar concrete structures can be expressed using mathematical models and provides a solid basic understanding of the nonlinear behaviour of concrete structures. It applies elasto-plastic theory to damage mechanics and the modelling of cracks in concrete, drawing on the author’s 25 years of design and construction experience as a professional engineer, as well as recent research. Sets out the reality of damage mechanics in concrete Connects standard theory with good design and construction practice The book is suitable for structural design engineers and researchers.

Book Advances and Trends in Structures and Dynamics

Download or read book Advances and Trends in Structures and Dynamics written by Ahmed K. Noor and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances and Trends in Structures and Dynamics contains papers presented at the symposium on Advances and Trends in Structures and Dynamics held in Washington, D.C., on October 22-25, 1984. Separating 67 papers of the symposium as chapters, this book documents some of the major advances in the structures and dynamics discipline. The chapters are further organized into 13 parts. The first three parts explore the trends and advances in engineering software and hardware; numerical analysis and parallel algorithms; and finite element technology. Subsequent parts show computational strategies for nonlinear and fracture mechanics problems; mechanics of materials and structural theories; structural and dynamic stability; multidisciplinary and interaction problems; composite materials and structures; and optimization. Other chapters focus on random motion and dynamic response; tire modeling and contact problems; damping and control of spacecraft structures; and advanced structural applications.

Book Investigation on the Behaviour of Reinforced Concrete Slabs Under Dynamic Impact Loading

Download or read book Investigation on the Behaviour of Reinforced Concrete Slabs Under Dynamic Impact Loading written by Mudar Hamsho and published by Grin Publishing. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project Report from the year 2015 in the subject Engineering - Civil Engineering, grade: 1.3 (90-100%), Dresden Technical University, language: English, abstract: In the frame of a research program at the TU Dresden, reinforced concrete slabs are tested in a drop-tower. The goal is to obtain a model with which the prediction of the structural behav-ior of the slabs under high loading rates, depending on different parameters. The global behavior response of RC slabs (symmetric reinforcement without shear stirrups) due to a hard impact projectile and a strain rate 10-1 [1/s] has been addressed in this project-work. A complex drop-mass apparatus is used to conduct experiments and investigations on the impact dynamic behavior of RC slabs The focus was on the response stage of the linear elastic field and how to correlate this re-sponse stage to the drop-height depending on raw experimental data. A process of data analysis for hundreds, thousands, or millions of data measurements has been carried out and an analytical model based on a system of single degree of freedom and different simplifications is shown with different verification methods. The model enables predicting bending response due to impact. The test of 11 slabs with drop-heights (1 to 4 meters) provides the required data to calibrate the analytical model as well as future numerical models.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Concrete Slab Technology documents the proceedings of the International Conference on Concrete Slabs held at Dundee University on April 3-6, 1979. This book discusses the influence of steel fiber-reinforcement on the shear strength of slab-column connections; sulfur-treated concrete slabs; yield line analysis of orthotropicaly reinforced exterior panels of flat slab floors; and behavior of flat slab/edge column joints. The design of multiple panel flat slab structures; structural behavior of floor slabs in shear wall buildings; shrinkage and cracking of concrete at early ages; and slab construction for HAB system modules are also elaborated. This text likewise covers the direct finishing of concrete slabs using the early age power grinding technique; application of vacuum dewatering to in-situ slab production; retexturing of concrete slabs; and fatigue resistance of composite precast and in situ concrete floors. This publication is a good reference for students and individuals concerned with the practices and research relating to slab technology.
