Book A Survey of Methods for Turbojet Thrust Measurement Applicable to Flight Installation

Download or read book A Survey of Methods for Turbojet Thrust Measurement Applicable to Flight Installation written by William A. Fleming and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experience accumulated during the past 10 years in measuring turbojet-engine thrust in altitude facilities is summarized herein to indicate the currently best-known techniques applicable for obtaining in-flight thrust measurements. Problems that are encountered in obtaining accurate thrust measurements are illustrated, and the resultant techniques required for measurement of the net thrust of several typical types of turbojet installations are discussed. Techniques for obtaining a performance calibration of the basic engine while it is installed in an airplane are also indicated.

Book Wind tunnel Investigation to Determine the Horizontal and Vertical tail Contributions to the Static Lateral Stability Characteristics of a Complete model Swept wing Configuration at High Subsonic Speeds

Download or read book Wind tunnel Investigation to Determine the Horizontal and Vertical tail Contributions to the Static Lateral Stability Characteristics of a Complete model Swept wing Configuration at High Subsonic Speeds written by James W. Wiggins and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted in the Langley high-speed 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the horizontal- and vertical-tail contributions to the static lateral stability of a complete-model swept-wing configuration at high subsonic speeds. The results indicate that, in a general, Mach number effects within the range studied and wing effects on the tail contribution were small and the overall trends of the data of the present investigation agreed with those which have been established at low speeds.

Book Flight Test Instrumentation

Download or read book Flight Test Instrumentation written by M. A. Perry and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-11-04 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flight Test Instrumentation is a collection of papers presented at the Third International Symposium on Flight Test Instrumentation held in 1964 under the auspices of the Department of Flight of the College of Aeronautics in Cranfield, UK. The symposium provided a forum for discussing advances in flight test instrumentation and covered topics ranging from pre-detection recording in the megacycle range to some problems and uses of fuel flow measurements in supersonic aircraft. This volume is comprised of 14 chapters and begins by describing angle of attack and angle of sideslip measurements using fully de-iced non-movable differential pressure-sensing heads and low-range capacitive pressure transducers. The next chapter explores errors in stability derivative measurements that can occur due to shortcomings in instrumentation design, as well as the implications of such errors for the development of a modern supersonic aeroplane. The application of the vector plotting technique to flight flutter testing of the Hawker Siddeley Trident is then considered. Subsequent chapters focus on the use of high-accuracy instrumentation techniques for non-steady flight measurements; strain gauging for transient heating cases; and free-flight model techniques for aerodynamic research at supersonic and hypersonic speeds. This book will be a useful resource for students, practitioners, and officials of aeronautics.

Book Experimental Results of an Investigation of Two Methods of Inflight Thrust Measurement Applicable to Afterburning Turbojet Engines with Ejectors

Download or read book Experimental Results of an Investigation of Two Methods of Inflight Thrust Measurement Applicable to Afterburning Turbojet Engines with Ejectors written by Harry E. Bloomer and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted in an altitude test chamber using a turbojet engine equipped with an afterburner and ejector to compare directly two techniques of determining thrust that are both applicable to flight installations. One method is the use of a swinging uncooled rake at the ejector outlet. The other method requires extensive instrumentation to measure the momentum forces of the primary and secondary systems and the force on the internal surface of the ejector nozzle. The two methods are compared on the basis of accuracy, ease of installation calibration required, and so forth. Comparisons are presented so that the reader can be guided to his own choice.

Book Flight Techniques for Determining Airplane Drag at High Mach Numbers

Download or read book Flight Techniques for Determining Airplane Drag at High Mach Numbers written by De E. Beeler and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The measurement of total airplane drag in flight is necesssry to assess the applicability of wind-tunnel model data. The NACA High-Speed Flight Station has investigated and developed techniques for measuring the drag of high-speed research airplanes and current fighter-type airplanes. The accelerometer method for determining drag was found to be the most satisfactory method for research work, because it is the only method permitting a complete coverage of the Mach number and angle-of attack capabilities of an airplane.
