Mile steel and stainless steel cylinders are prepared for bonding by eighteen different methods of grit blasting and three methods of chemical pre-treatment. The cylinders are then bonded two by two co-axially using an epoxy film adhesive cured at 100 -180 C. The influence of different abrasive powders, nozzle pressures and angles of incidence between the jet and the adherend surface, on the joint strengths produced, is measured by stressing the joints in shear and in tension.
