Book An Investigation Into Effects of Environmental Changes on Locus of Control

Download or read book An Investigation Into Effects of Environmental Changes on Locus of Control written by S. A. Answay and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Past research suggest that relationships exist between Type A personality, stress, and coronary heart disease. This thesis determined that Type A individuals are inclined to experience more stress than Type B individuals in similar situations. A relationship was found between Type A behavior and internal locus of control indicating that individuals with internal locus of control are more likely to be Type A personalities than type B personalities. Relationships were also found among Type A behavior, internal locus of control, and assertiveness indicating that Type A individuals are more assertive than Type B individuals. Family inventory was inversely related to locus of control inferring that internal locus of control individuals are more satisfied with their personal relationships than are external locus of control individuals. Because family inventory was also inversely related to stress, when stress is present in one area of an internal locus of control individuals's life, the individual looks to other areas of their life for satisfaction. No relationship was found between stress and assertiveness indicating that assertive individuals deal more effectively with stressful situations. This investigation also determined that as the environment changes to a more structured rigid environment, the individual shifts from an internal to an external locus of control. These determinations were based on statistical analysis using Pearson Correlations, Paired t-Tests, and Regression Analysis. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the 21st century advances, the global challenges and consequences posed by climate change are becoming increasingly apparent. Although organisations are considered significant contributors to climate change, they also have the potential to affect it positively through their employees. As a result, understanding how employees' pro-environmental initiatives can positively affect climate change has increasingly become the focus of inquiry among researchers. In this book a number of researchers review leading research in different areas of organisational environmental sustainability.

Book A Look Into Locus of Control

Download or read book A Look Into Locus of Control written by Lana Sue Rohrer and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overarching question guiding this grounded theory research is, how will understanding more about what shapes students' locus of control change the way educators teach about environmental issues? This research is motivated by the author's teaching experiences in which students expressed feelings of hopelessness after learning about environmental issues. Key influences included graduate professors, colleagues, current and former students, and the authors Smith-Sebasto, Hungerford and Volk, and Rotter. Participants, who were high school biology students, were given a locus of control survey before and after the ecology unit. Additionally, a modified one minute paper was distributed after the unit to generate qualitative data. Data showed that students who had an internal orientation for locus of control were more likely to believe their actions could positively impact the environment.

Book Effects of Environmental Service learning on Locus of Control and Critical Thinking of Middle School Students

Download or read book Effects of Environmental Service learning on Locus of Control and Critical Thinking of Middle School Students written by Sarah Virginia Bosch and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper documents a service-learning project completed by an advanced seventh grade science class taught by the author of the paper. The research shows an increase of an internal locus of control and the development of reflective judgment through the ill-structured nature of the service-learning project. The study uses the Reflective Judgment Model created by King and Kitchner and follows Eyler and Giles's study to apply the Reflective Judgment Model to service-learning. Students show an increase of 0.4 in their reflective judgment on a four point scale. Eighteen percent more of the student had an internal locus of control for environmental issues after the project. Only three of the 26 students had an external locus of control after the project. The increases were measured with a pre- and post-survey, and the project showed an increase in seventh graders' locus of control and reflective judgment after completing an environmental service-learning project.

Book Perspectives on Environment and Behavior

Download or read book Perspectives on Environment and Behavior written by Daniel Stokols and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inception of this volume can be traced to a series of Environmental Psychology Colloquia presented at the University of California, Irvine, dur ing the spring of 1974. These colloquia were held in conjunction with Social Ecology 252, a graduate seminar on Man and the Environment. Although the eight colloquia covered a wide range of topics and exemplified a diversity of research techniques, they seemed to converge on some common theoretical and methodological assumptions about the na ture of environment-behavioral research. The apparent continuities among these colloquia suggested the utility of developing a manuscript that would provide a historical overview of research on environment and be havior, a representation of its major concerns, and an analysis of its concep tual and empirical trends. Thus, expanded versions of the initial presen tations were integrated with a supplemental set of invited manuscripts to yield the present volume of original contributions by leading researchers in the areas of ecological and environmental psychology.
