Book excerpt: First published in 1992, the aim of this volume is to provide an introduction to the range of UK published statistical sources now available to business users. It is not a comprehensive review of UK statistical publishing but a guide to key sources of information in selected subject areas of particular relevance to business users. The coverage, content, methods of collection and limitations of major titles and services in each subject area are described. Published statistics are important sources of information for business and industry and most statistics either come from official sources, produced by central government, or non-official sources such as trade associations, professional bodies, market research organizations and economic research institutes. Examples are used to show the strengths and weaknesses of statistical sources and to compare different sources. A bibliography of all the sources mentioned is included at the end of the book; Appendix 1 gives the names and addresses of contacts for further information and Appendix 2 is a list of selected abbreviations and acronyms.

Book British Incomes and Property

Download or read book British Incomes and Property written by Josiah Stamp and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from British Incomes and Property: The Application of Official Statistics to Economic Problems The greater part of this work was completed before the war began. In so far as it is a contribution to economic history, it might well have awaited a more auspicious time for publication; but there is sufficient justification for its appearance now in the fact that the war itself is raising, and will continue to raise, questions relating to national income, property, and wealth, as well as to the distribution of incomes, in which the official statistics play a more or less important part. Any assistance which this book may afford to those who wish to use and interpret these statistics in economic, statistical, or political investigations is accordingly offered without further delay, although leisure has been wanting for elaboration of some of the applications in Part II. on the lines originally planned. The war marks, as definitely as the close of the Napoleonic era, the completion of one economic epoch and the beginning of another, so that a summary of the official record of the past century can hardly be regarded as inopportune at this turning point in our national history. I should not like to miss the opportunity of expressing to Dr. Bowley my appreciation of his kindly interest in this study.
