Book Boiler Control Systems Engineering

Download or read book Boiler Control Systems Engineering written by G. F. (Jerry) Gilman and published by ISA. This book was released on 2010 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for anyone who works with boilers: utilities managers, power plant managers, control systems engineers, maintenance technicians or operators. The information deals primarily with water tube boilers with Induced Draft (ID) and Forced Draft (FD) fan(s) or boilers containing only FD fans. It can also apply to any fuel-fired steam generator. Other books on boiler control have been published; however, they do not cover engineering details on control systems and the setup of the various control functions. Boiler Control Systems Engineering provides specific examples of boiler control including configuration and tuning, valve sizing, and transmitter specifications. This expanded and updated second edition includes drum level compensation equations, additional P&ID drawings and examples of permissive startup and tripping logic for gas, oil, and coal fired boilers. It also covers different control schemes for furnace draft control. NFPA 85 Code 2007 control system requirements are included, with illustrated examples of coal fired boilers, as well as information on the latest ISA-77 series of standards.

Book An Introduction to Boiler Control Systems

Download or read book An Introduction to Boiler Control Systems written by J. Paul Guyer and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-05-31 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This course provides an introduction to criteria for the design of heating plant instrumentation. A heating plant may contain one or more boilers. The plant may be an individual plant serving a single building or a compact group of buildings, or a central plant serving many buildings and facilities through an extensive distribution system. The heating plant instrumentation discussed is, in general, for a saturated steam power boiler heating plant. The information provided may also be applicable to Low, Medium, and High Temperature Hot Water heating plants, but does not cover all of the requirements of those plants, such as control of water pressurization and circulation systems. The information may also be applicable to superheated-steam power plants, but does not cover the all of the requirements of those plants, such as steam extraction, reheating, steam turbine control, and cooling water controls.

Book User s Guide to Automatic Boiler Controls

Download or read book User s Guide to Automatic Boiler Controls written by R. E. Kirts and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The User's Guide provides guidelines for the establishment of an effective maintenance program for combustion controls of small industrial boilers that covers the maintenance of instruments and control devices. The purpose of a boiler control system is to regulate the boiler so as to produce the desired steam flow with safety and efficiency. To accomplish this, the control system must provide the boiler with the correct amounts of air and fuel as the demand for the steam changes. Also, the control system must safely shut the boiler off should abnormal conditions, such as excessive steam pressure, loss of flame, or explosions occur. There are several methods of controlling steam flow in the small boilers found at most Naval facilities, but the most common method uses the steam pressure to generate a master control signal. This master control signal is usually utilized in one of two types of control methods: parallel control positioning or series control positioning. Other controls are feedwater and blowdown control systems and safety controls. The latest developments in automatic boiler control systems have been in the technology of direct digital control (DDC) of boilers. DDC systems are based on microcomputer technology and control the boiler by means of a changeable program. The advantages of microcomputer based control systems include: (1) the control instructions and set points can be easily changed; (2) the systems are usually easily expanded to include more control features or additional boilers; (3) low cost control redundancy; (4) boiler operation diagnostics and performance data acquisition; and (5) control system self-diagnostics.
