Book Structures and Architecture

Download or read book Structures and Architecture written by Paulo J. Cruz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 1553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the disciplines of architecture and structural engineering have both experienced their own historical development, their interaction has resulted in many fascinating and delightful structures. To take this interaction to a higher level, there is a need to stimulate the inventive and creative design of architectural structures and to persuade architects and structural engineers to further collaborate in this process, exploiting together new concepts, applications and challenges. This set of book of abstracts and full paper searchable CD-ROM presents selected papers presented at the 3rd International Conference on Structures and Architecture Conference (ICSA2016), organized by the School of Architecture of the University of Minho, Guimarães, Portugal (July 2016), to promote the synergy in the collaboration between the disciplines of architecture and structural engineering.

Book New Perspectives on Virtual and Augmented Reality

Download or read book New Perspectives on Virtual and Augmented Reality written by Linda Daniela and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Perspectives on Virtual and Augmented Reality discusses the possibilities of using virtual and augmented reality in the role of innovative pedagogy, where there is an urgent need to find ways to teach and support learning in a transformed learning environment. Technology creates opportunities to learn differently and presents challenges for education. Virtual reality solutions can be exciting, create interest in learning, make learning more accessible and make learning faster. This book analyses the capabilities of virtual, augmented and mixed reality by providing ideas on how to make learning more effective, how existing VR/AR solutions can be used as learning tools and how a learning process can be structured. The virtual reality (VR) solutions can be used successfully for educational purposes as their use can contribute to the construction of knowledge and the development of metacognitive processes. They also contribute to inclusive education by providing access to knowledge that would not otherwise be available. This book will be of great interest to academics, researchers and post-graduate students in the field of educational technology.

This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research deals with a question about Architecture and its design strategies, combining historical information and digital tools. Design strategies are historically defined, they rely on geometry, context, building technologies and other factors. The study of Architecture´s own history, particularly in the verge of technological advancements, like the introduction of new materials or tools may shed some light on how to internalize digital tools like parametric design and digital fabrication.

Book Revamping Architectural Education

Download or read book Revamping Architectural Education written by Rajesh Sharma and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2018-06-08 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book that you hold in your hands is a treasure trove of ideas to set into motion a new generation of learning for architects. As the author is a practitioner of this technology called architecture, he have often felt that globally it is the last field of knowledge that still displays vestiges of a holistic, renaissance attitude of mind. It has not fallen victim to our global love for economic development above all other considerations, and is not always a handmaiden of consumerist culture. Architects are somewhat obsessed with form. Despite this, or inspite of it, the combine and harmonize the field of applied arts with the sciences, the attitudes of engineering optimization with the expression of the visual arts, covering subjects as diverse as chemistry and history! India is possibly the world's largest future market for private sector architects today. If we do not adapt our archiectural practice, starting with our architectural teaching practices, we run the clear and present danger of becoming extinct in the race for economic development and urbanization which is truly sustainable: resilient, sufficient, and equitable. In reading this little gem of a book the author would urge the reader to look beyond formulae and descriptions, and generatean agenda for reform; beyond just the curriculum and towards transformation. As Indian society struggles to understand its architects, the profession owes a duty to itself to remain relevant to social needs and aspirations to create a nation of our dreams. And the author hopes that the beginning of that agenda can befound in the pages of this book, interpreted by every reader individually.

Book Higher Education and Innovation

Download or read book Higher Education and Innovation written by Vincenzo Sapienza and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the design of an educational module for an innovative intensive program. The theme is very relevant in the contemporary approach to teaching activities. In fact, thanks to the didactic design, it is possible to obtain a strong relationship between teachers and learners, as required by the Bologna Process. It also allows a stronger definition of learning outcomes. After a general excursus on the subject, the manuscript refers to a recent experience carried out in the Aeolian Island for the Erasmus + Programme, called VVITA. In it, an international group of students and teachers spent a period in the Aeolian Islands, to focus on the features of local vernacular architecture. The attention has been addressed to the Aeolian House, which is a wonderful example of ante litteram sustainable architecture. On the island of Filicudi, one of the most beautiful of the archipelago, it has preserved its characteristics intact. The book is completed by teachers’ lectures and students’ final reports.

Book Integrating Innovation in Architecture

Download or read book Integrating Innovation in Architecture written by Ajla Aksamija and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s design professionals are faced with challenges on all fronts. They need not only to keep in step with rapid technological changes and the current revolution in design and construction processes, but to lead the industry. This means actively seeking to innovate through design research, raising the bar in building performance and adopting advanced technologies in their practice. In a constant drive to improve design processes and services, how is it possible to implement innovations? And, moreover, to assimilate them in such a way that design, methods and technologies remain fully integrated? Focusing on innovations in architecture, this book covers new materials and design methods, advances in computational design practices, innovations in building technologies and construction techniques, and the integration of research with design. Moreover, it discusses strategies for integrating innovation into design practices, risks and economic impacts. Through numerous case studies, it illustrates how innovations have been implemented on actual architectural projects, and how design and technical innovations are used to improve building performance, as well as design practices in cutting-edge architectural and engineering firms. Projects of all scales and building types are discussed in the book, ranging from small-scale installations, academic and commercial buildings to large-scale mixed-use, healthcare, civic, academic, scientific research and sports facilities. Work from design firms around the globe and of various scales is discussed in the book, including for example Asymptote Architecture, cepezed, CO Architects, Consarc Architects, FAAB Architektura, Gerber Architekten, HOK, IDOM-ACXT, MAD Architects, Morphosis Architects, SDA | Synthesis Design + Architecture, Studiotrope, Perkins+Will, Richter Dahl Rocha & Associés, Snøhetta, Rob Ley Studio, Trahan Architects, UNStudio and Zaha Hadid Architects, among many others.
