Book An Infinite God and a Father Son God

Download or read book An Infinite God and a Father Son God written by Kenan Osborne and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-05-29 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this last work, Kenan Osborne addresses the intersection between new scientific insights into the origin of the human species and the growing awareness of a multicultural and multi-religious world with our contemporary understanding of God. After a review of current presentations of Trinitarian theology, he analyzes in detail the biblical record for the names of God and develops a cogent description of the thinking about God in the first six centuries. Complementing his 2015 volume The Infinity of God and A Finite World, A Franciscan Approach, this present work challenges theologians and believers in two distinct ways: Do the terms “Father” and “Son” have any essential meaning for divinity? From a human standpoint, God is essentially neither a “Father” nor a “Son.” Nor do these two words have some exclusive meaning when they refer to divinity. What then do we mean when we talk about God? Second, in many theological textbooks, the term “infinite” is considered as an “attribute” of God. Infinity is in no way an attribute, even a divine attribute. It is rather an essential description of God, as the Franciscan philosophical theologian John Duns Scotus argues. And if this is so, can we really understand God, or are all our views and descriptions of an infinite God partial insights into a transcendent infinite God who embraces all human creatures from the beginning of homo sapiens sapiens to the present?

Book excerpt: The author of Desiring God reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Includes a study guide for individual and small-group use. Isn’t it true—we really don’t know someone until we understand what makes that person happy? And so it is with God! What does bring delight to the happiest Being in the universe? John Piper writes, that it’s only when we know what makes God glad that we’ll know the greatness of His glory. Therefore, we must comprehend “the pleasures of God.” Unlike so much of what is written today, this is not a book about us. It is about the One we were made for—God Himself. In this theological masterpiece—chosen by World Magazine as one of the 20th Century’s top 100 books, John Piper reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Then we will be able to drink deeply—and satisfyingly—from the only well that offers living water. What followers of Jesus need now, more than anything else, is to know and love—behold and embrace—the great, glorious, sovereign, happy God of the Bible. “This is a unique and precious book that everybody should read more than once.” —J.I. PACKER, Regent College, Vancouver, British Columbia

Book The Same God Who Works All Things

Download or read book The Same God Who Works All Things written by Adonis Vidu and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical Trinitarianism holds that every action of Trinity in the world is inseparable. That is, the divine persons are equally active in every operation. But then, in what way did the Father create the world through Christ? How can only the Son be incarnate, die, and be resurrected? Why does Christ have to ascend before the Spirit may come? These and many other questions pose serious objections to the doctrine of inseparable operations. In the first book-length treatment of this doctrine, Adonis Vidu takes up these questions and offers a conceptual and dogmatic analysis of this essential axiom, engaging with recent and historical objections. Taking aim at a common “soft” interpretation of the inseparability rule, according to which the divine persons merely cooperate and work in concert with one another, Vidu argues for the retrieval of “hard inseparability,” which emphasizes the unity of divine action, primarily drawing from the patristic and medieval traditions. Having probed the biblical foundations of the rule and recounted the story of its emergence in nascent Trinitarianism and its neglect in modern theology, Vidu builds a constructive case for its retrieval. The rule is then tested precisely on the battlegrounds that were thought to have witnessed its defeat: the doctrines of creation, incarnation, atonement, ascension, and the indwelling of the Spirit. What emerges is a constructive account of theology in which the recovery of this dogmatic rule shines fresh light on ancient doctrines.

Book excerpt: Fear is one of the strongest human emotions, and it is one that often baffles Christians. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge." — Proverbs 1:7 Fear is one of the strongest human emotions—and one that often baffles Christians. In the Bible the picture can seem equally confusing: Is fear a good thing or a bad thing? And what does it mean to "fear the Lord"? In Rejoice and Tremble, Michael Reeves clears the clouds of confusion and shows that the fear of the Lord is not a negative thing at all, but an intensely delighted wondering at God, our Creator and Redeemer.

Book excerpt: An in-depth look at a God who not only loves, but is love. Love has come to mean many things. It’s used to describe emotions. It’s the glue for relationships. It frames countless stories. And the greatest of these stories opens before time began and echoes throughout eternity. It’s the story of God’s unrelenting, overwhelming love for His people. Yet the truth of love is even more majestic, more staggering, and more extraordinary than we can understand: God doesn’t just love us. He is love. Renowned theologian and teacher Dr. R.C. Sproul takes a remarkable look at this most profound truth. God’s Love delves deep into Scripture to explore this dynamic attribute of God, which finds its ultimate expression in His Son. Dr. Sproul also examines seeming paradoxes of God, such as a loving God and divine hate, and how love coexists with His sovereignty. Practical, insightful, and revolutionary, God’s Love compels and calls us to reflect His nature of unconditional love.

Book Trinity Without Hierarchy

Download or read book Trinity Without Hierarchy written by Micheal F. Bird and published by Kregel Academic. This book was released on 2019-04-30 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A defense of equality among the persons of the Trinity In response to those complementarian theologians who assert that the Son is eternally subordinate to the Father, the contributors to Trinity Without Hierarchy contend that this view misconstrues the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity and reduces the Son to a lower level of glory and majesty than the Father. Surveying Scripture, church history, and theology, sixteen contributors present a defense of the full and equal authority of all three members of the Trinity while critiquing approaches that border on semi-Arianism. In particular, the creedal confessions of Nicaea are upheld as the historical standard by which any proposed Trinitarian doctrine should be judged. While some contributors hold complementarian and others egalitarian viewpoints, all agree that Trinitarian relations are not a proper basis for understanding gender roles. Trinity Without Hierarchy is indispensable reading for anyone interested in the current debate over the relationship between Trinitarian theology and the roles of men and women.

Book The God of Jesus

    Book Details:
  • Author : David A. Kroll
  • Publisher : WestBow Press
  • Release : 2012-12-26
  • ISBN : 1449772862
  • Pages : 325 pages

Download or read book The God of Jesus written by David A. Kroll and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-12-26 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus said the Father is the one and only true God (John 5:43-44, 17:3). Apostle Paul taught the same thing (1 Corinthians 8:4-6, 11:3, 1Timothy 2:5). Jesus said the Father is greater than Him and that He receives his life from the Father (John 14:28, 5:26). Yet Christian theology teaches Jesus is also the one and only true God, is equal with the Father, and has existed eternally with the Father in an indwelling relationship of Father, Son, and Spirit. The Bible repeatedly speaks of God the Father. You will not find the phrase God the Son or God the Spirit in the Scriptures. The Bible consistently speaks of the Son of God and Spirit of God but never speaks of the Father of God. In The God OF Jesus, it will be demonstrated that the reason the Bible never speaks of God the Son, God the Spirit, or the Father of God, is because the Father, and only the Father, IS God. It will be clearly shown who Jesus is and what the Spirit is in relation to who God is.

Book That God May Be All in All

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ryan L. Rippee
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2018-03-02
  • ISBN : 1532619677
  • Pages : 292 pages

Download or read book That God May Be All in All written by Ryan L. Rippee and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-03-02 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christology and Pneumatology have long been major preoccupations for theologians, and rightly so, but the work of God the Father has been surprisingly neglected. Through a biblical and exegetical study of the Father’s person and work (Paterology), this book argues that, among the persons of the Trinity, the Father is the initiator of all divine activity. Furthermore, it is in the context of a loving eternal relationship with the Son and Spirit that the Father has planned and purposed all things, creating through the Son and by the Spirit, promising and accomplishing redemption through the sending of the Son and the Spirit, and perfecting salvation by bringing about a new heavens and new earth through his Son and Spirit. The only proper response is a Trinitarian-shaped life of worship that worships our Triune God.

Book Theology You Can Count On

Download or read book Theology You Can Count On written by Tony Evans and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2008-07-01 with total page 1376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For many people the word theology suggests seminary-educated scholars who sit in ivory towers, isolated from the real world, studying the Bible. Such study is often viewed as esoteric and unrelated to the world where men and women live, work, play, raise families, and struggle with the realities of day-to-day life. Nothing could be further from the truth." ---Tony Evans What we think about God, also known as theology, influences what we believe, do, and say. And what we think, whether true or false, makes a big difference in real life. Tony Evans wants you to know the truth about God, so Theology You Can Count On communicates truths about God in language you can understand. He walks through what the Bible teaches, topic by topic, truth by truth. The great thing is, these truths aren't reserved for people with PhDs. They're for real life. They're for you.
