Book An Indictment of the American Clergy

Download or read book An Indictment of the American Clergy written by Thomas Wade and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For seven times seven years, the attendance at the United Methodist Church has declined, and the church leadership has refused to publicly acknowledge their culpability, and the laity has accepted their excuses. The clergy have let their personal political agendas nudge out their responsibility to the church and to Jesus Christ. The clergy have also not recognized the responsibilities of the church to end racism, lead the country toward assimilation of immigrants, and displace hatred that leads to gun violence with hope offered by Jesus.

Book excerpt: Ten Indictments Against the Modern Church is a sermon preached at the Revival Conference in Atlanta in 2008. “Paul Washer delivered an urgent appeal to the Christians and churches in North America: that many have been believing a false gospel and have false assurance of their salvation! He listed ten indictments against the modern church system in America. This is a historical urgent message. Tell others and spread the message! We need a reformation and revival of a Biblical standard!”—Greg Gordon (Revival Conference Organizer)

Book Spoils of the Kingdom

Download or read book Spoils of the Kingdom written by Anson Shupe and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Spoils of the Kingdom, Anson Shupe investigates clergy misconduct as it has recently unfolded across five faith-based groups. Looking at episodes of abuse in the Roman Catholic, Mormon, African American Protestant, white Evangelical Protestant, and First Nations communities, Spoils of the Kingdom tackles hard questions not only about the sexual abuse of women and children, but also about economic frauds perpetrated by church leaders (including embezzlement, mis-represented missions, and outright theft) as well as cases of excessively authoritarian control of members’ health, lifestyles, employment, and politics. Drawing on case evidence, Shupe employs classical and modern social exchange theories to explain the institutional dynamics of clergy misconduct. He argues that there is an implicit contract of reciprocity and compliance between congregants and religious leaders that, when amplified by the charismatic awe often associated with religious authorities, can lead to misconduct.

Book Gone to Hell

Download or read book Gone to Hell written by Randall Radic and published by ReadHowYouWant. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theft, extortion, embezzlement, mafia ties, drunk driving and even murder - these are the true stories of priests gone bad. It's a dark and windy Easter in Toledo, Ohio when Sister Margaret is found murdered in the chapel, the victim of a Satanic ritual. Twenty years later her murderer is revealed to be the parish priest Father Gerald. Monsignor Skehan and Father Guinan embezzled 8.1 million dollars from their affluent Palm Beach, Florida, church, Guinan fleeing to Ireland and leaving Skehan to face the music. Father Fink of Texas crashed his car into a restaurant while driving drunk, injuring ten people. The civil lawsuits that ensued featured innovative - and shady - defense tactics. Radic dramatically retells these stories and many others, drawing on his personal trials as a pastor convicted of embezzlement, forgery, and fraud.

Book Gay Catholic Priests and Clerical Sexual Misconduct

Download or read book Gay Catholic Priests and Clerical Sexual Misconduct written by Donald Boisvert and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Why did it take 30 years for American bishops to listen to the victims of Catholic clerical abuse?” Gay Catholic Priests and Clerical Sexual Misconduct: Breaking the Silence is a compelling indictment of Roman Catholic teachings on homosexuality and sexuality. Inspired by The Silence of Sodom: Homosexuality in Modern Catholicism, Mark Jordan’s controversial examination of homoeroticism in American Catholic culture, this groundbreaking book examines how the current crisis of clerical abuse affects and stigmatizes gay priests living in a climate of hysteria and condemnation. The book’s contributors, an eclectic mix of scholars and clerics, question whether the church can survive centuries of secrets and scandals. In the wake of very real concerns about a possible inquisition launched by the Catholic Church against its gay members, Gay Catholic Priests and Clerical Sexual Misconduct continues the efforts of the Gay Men’s Issues in Religion Group of the American Academy of Religion to honor the work of Mark Jordan, who contributes his thoughts on the issues raised by the book. A panel of former Jesuits, a former seminarian with the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, a Dominican, a Franciscan, and several feminist authors present different perspectives on gay priests, clerical/ecclesial misogyny, games of power and abuse, and religious scapegoating, writing with eloquence and pain, a great deal of pride, and a touch of justifiable divine righteousness. Gay Catholic Priests and Clerical Sexual Misconduct includes:“Celibate Men, Ambivalent Saints, and Games of Desire”, “A Call to Liberation of Gay Catholic Clergy”, “Speaking Loud or Shutting Up: The Homosexual-type Problem”, “Those Troubling Gay Priests”, “Catholicism and a Crisis of Intimate Relations” and much more! Gay Catholic Priests and Clerical Sexual Misconduct: Breaking the Silence is an invaluable resource for academics, members of the clergy, seminarians, chaplains and counselors, and anyone interested in homosexuality and religion.
