Book Modified Smear Layer in Conservative Dentistry Endodontics

Download or read book Modified Smear Layer in Conservative Dentistry Endodontics written by Simran Sandhu and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smear Layer has been a focus of speculation and debate ever since it was first reported.A lot many researchers have advocated its removal but few who support its retention advocate its modification to a structure that is more stable and resistant to microleakage. This book reviews the various agents which can chemically react with the smear layer to alter its structure. This hybridized smear layer is a sterile, inert, non-toxic chemically and mechanically interlocked smear layer.Modified smear layer can prove advantageous in preventing further infection of the root canal dentin by sealing off the dentinal tubules permanently and also reduce microleakage since it is stable enough so as not to disintegrate. This review should be useful for encouraging further research in modifying the smear layer which would in turn prove to be beneficial for the long term success of endodontic therapy and certain restorative procedures

Book Effect of Edta Versus Citric Acid on Smear Layer Removal in Vitro

Download or read book Effect of Edta Versus Citric Acid on Smear Layer Removal in Vitro written by Dr. Sanaulla Arifulla and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study was undertaken to compare the efficacy of smear layer removal by EDTA versus Citric acid at the apical third of the root canals. There have been various chelating agents utilised in Endodontics, apart from smear layer removing properties , a good chelating agent should be atleast biocompatible as practically it is almost impossible to confine the chelating agent within the apical constriction. Therefore there is always a search for a chelating agent which is biocompatible and efficient at the same time.Groups of specimes were treated with Edta, Citric acid and Saline respectively.Specimens were prepared for evaluation of the smeaar layer under the scanning electron microscope. Photomicrographs were obtained. The smear layer was rated based on the standard rating system at the apical third of the root canals.Edta is widely used as a chelating agent. The present research is focused on the chelating agents Edta and Citric acid. As mentioned earlier that a chelating agent should be biocompatible apart from being efficient , therefore the present study targets on a chelating agent which is both efficient and biocompatible.
