It depends on picture rather than on words. The Historical Pageant of Portland belongs to the latter Class. Its natural amphitheatre (with the Atlantic Ocean for a background) is SO large that it demands pantomimic rather than phonetic art. Therefore, in the book of the Portland Pageant only such words are used as are actually necessary to carry on the action.
