Book Achievement Motivation in the Leadership Role of Extension Agents

Download or read book Achievement Motivation in the Leadership Role of Extension Agents written by Maimunah Ismail and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is relevant to the practice and theory of agricultural extension. In the current context of significant changes in thinking, policy, and expectations, these changes require extension agents to respond to challenges in developing leadership skills to support and encourage changes at farm and household levels. The book has identified the background, personal, and environmental factors influencing achievement motivation in the leadership role of extension agents. The background factors are primary dimensions of diversity and are less amenable to change, exert significant impacts, and shape our basic self-image, sense of identity, and early learning experiences. Researchers often ignore the interdependence of the background factors with other (secondary) dimensions of diversity, in which the latter are changeable personal characteristics that are acquired, and may be modified or abandoned throughout life. Although the secondary dimensions of diversity are more controllable, they will be affected by other people’s decisions, which in this book we see as environmental factors. The reliability and applicability of the above-mentioned theoretical discussions have been tested in an original study involving extension agents in Iran.

Book Motivated Social Perception

Download or read book Motivated Social Perception written by Steven J. Spencer and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2003-01-30 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume highlights state-of-the-art research on motivated social perception by the leaders in the field. Recently a number of researchers developed influential accounts of how motivation affects social perception. Unfortunately, this work was developed without extensive contact between the researchers, and therefore evolved into two distinct traditions. The first tradition shows that the motivation to maintain a positive self-concept and to define oneself in the social world can dramatically affect people's social perception. The second one shows that people's goals have a dramatic effect on how they see themselves and others. Motivated Social Perception shows how these two approaches often overlap and provides insights into how these two perspectives are integrated. Motivated Social Perception contains chapters on: *the effect of motivation on the activation and application of stereotypes; *self-affirmation in the evaluations of the self and others; *implicit and explicit aspects of self-esteem; *self-esteem contingencies and relational aspects of the self; *an investigation of the roots and functions of basic goals; and *extensions of self-regulatory theory. This book is intended for scholars, researchers, and advanced students interested in social perception and social cognition.

Book Personality in the Social Process

Download or read book Personality in the Social Process written by J. Aronoff and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-06-11 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1985. This book presents a new way to ask an old question. Many fields have considered the nature of the influence that members of a group exert on the course of social events. Social science provides another way to examine this issue. Moreover, social science has a particular strength: It helps us to phrase questions more precisely than before, it encourages us to follow a line of reasoning systematically, and it requires us to evaluate our ideas in light of a particular kind of evidence. The authors want to use these strengths to explore systematically the ways that factors in the person and in the environment together may shape the emergence of social behavior.
