Book Principals Transformational Leadership Skills and Their Teachers Job Satisfaction in Nigeria

Download or read book Principals Transformational Leadership Skills and Their Teachers Job Satisfaction in Nigeria written by Francis O. Ejimofor and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated the relationship between teachers' perceptions of principals' transformational leadership skills and teachers' job satisfaction. It also revealed the relationship between principals' demographic characteristics and their perceptions of their ability to be transformational in their leadership styles. Participants were 518 secondary school teachers and 48 principals from two large Local Government Areas in Southeastern Nigeria. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze data. It was found that principals' transformational leadership skills significantly impacted teachers' job satisfaction. Some demographic variables of teachers were also studied to determine their relationship with job satisfaction. The results revealed that principals who spent more years in the same school perceived their leadership as transformational while principals with less number of years in the same school did not. Principals' years of professional experience and gender did not account for a significant variance in their perceptions of their ability to be transformative in their leadership styles. It was recommended that education ministries and boards should establish and implement programs that help to foster transformational leadership skills among school principals. Programs such as seminars, workshops and updates on school administration might be of great help. It was also recommended that secondary school principals demonstrate fundamental respect for teachers' ingenuity, ideas, decisions, knowledge and growth, and develop skills for building and maintaining friendship and collegiality. Finally, this study recommended that education ministries and boards integrate demographic characteristics of school principals/teachers with continuous assessment and evaluation of their performance.

Book The Effects of Transformational Leadership of Principals on Student Academic Achievement

Download or read book The Effects of Transformational Leadership of Principals on Student Academic Achievement written by Sharon S. Chen and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of transformational leadership on student achievement. The main research question focused on the relationship between transformational leadership practices of principals and student academic achievement. This study also attempted to determine if the transformational practices of principals differ between low performing schools and high performing schools as well as identify other factors that may affect the performance of students. The study relied upon transformational leadership as its theoretical framework. This researcher used the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) to measure the leadership practices of 154 middle and high school principals in California. The results of multiple regressions suggest that transformational leadership has no significant impact on student academic achievement. The results of the independent samples t-tests suggest there are no significant differences regarding the perceived application of effective transformational leadership practices between principals of high performing schools and principals of low performing schools in terms of the Academic Performance Index (API). The results suggest that transformational leadership has no significant impact on student academic achievement as measured by the Similar Schools Decile Ranking, API, and the percentage of students who pass the CAHSEE exams in mathematics and ELA.

Book An Exploration of Connections Between a Principal s Leadership Style and the Academic Achievement Gap

Download or read book An Exploration of Connections Between a Principal s Leadership Style and the Academic Achievement Gap written by Khalid Almasnaah and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This qualitative study explored possible connections between school principals' leadership styles and behaviors and closing the student achievement gap at three schools serving high poverty student populations. Two of the three schools were high schools designated as Priority Schools in 2012 as a result of student achievement that ranked in the bottom 5% of all Michigan schools. The two schools managed to exit the Priority designation in 2017 after implementing school culture and instruction reforms that improved student achievement. The third school was a K-8, which was not designated as a Priority School. It had the same student demographics as the Priority Schools, and it is located in the same district as one of them. It was added to the study to reinforce the data. The researcher conducted 17 interviews. A bottom-up inductive coding approach was adopted for the qualitative data analysis. The researcher assigned emerging themes specific and meaningful codes relevant to the topic and purpose of the study. Based on the data from the three schools, a possible connection between school leadership and closing the student achievement gap was found. The three principals adopted practices and behaviors relevant to multiple leadership styles. They did not limit themselves to only one leadership style or a set of behaviors. The two Priority School principals had to undo the negative impact of the former toxic culture. The three principals instituted a positive school culture based on trust, respect, collaboration, and accountability. They indirectly impacted student achievement by improving the schools' culture and climate and enhancing the curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data-driven interventions. They worked with all the stakeholders to align and streamline all the efforts and programs into well-coordinated plans and established common language and practices regarding teaching and learning. They involved all the teachers in the decision making about teaching and learning.

Book An Examination of Leadership Styles of School Principals and Student Effectiveness in Urban Elementary Schools in the State of Ohio

Download or read book An Examination of Leadership Styles of School Principals and Student Effectiveness in Urban Elementary Schools in the State of Ohio written by Chad Konkle and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple Regression was used to examine the relationship between the principal's leadership styles (Independent Variable) and growth in the Performance Index (Dependent Variable). The 19 principals' dominant leadership style was transformational leadership. The regression model failed to be significant; therefore, based on the data, leadership as measured by the MLQ-5X is not a good predictor for growth. The relationship on school leadership and growth was not significantly substantial. Although there was no predictive relationship, the data verify that the 19 schools that have shown growth had transformational leaders. Future research suggests a larger sample size to determine if leadership styles have a relationship to student growth.

Book Teachers Perception of Elementary School Principals Leadership Styles in under performing Level 2 Schools and superior Level 5 Schools in Mississippi

Download or read book Teachers Perception of Elementary School Principals Leadership Styles in under performing Level 2 Schools and superior Level 5 Schools in Mississippi written by Rhonda Deloise Powe and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine how the participants perceived their principal's transformational and transactional leadership style and whether differences existed in their perceptions based on the demographic variables of age, gender, experience, educational attainment and ethnicity. Transformational leaders were considered influential, change agents who motivated teachers to work collaboratively as a team to achieve defined goals. On the other hand, transactional leaders developed impersonal relationships and motivated teachers according to their personal self-interest. They focused on social and economic exchanges, using contingent rewards to reinforce positive behaviors and administered punishment to reform negative behaviors. One hundred and thirteen participants from six elementary schools participated in this study. The Multi-Leadership Questionnaire was used to collect data. Cronbach alpha was used to establish internal reliability consistency of the instrument. The data were analyzed using mean scores, percentages, chi-square, t-test and ANOVA. The research findings indicated that perception scores at both school levels were higher for transformational leadership than transactional leadership. According to the mean score interpretation (Table 2) and the participants' mean scores, 92.9 % of participants perceived their principal as fairly often a transformational leader and 7.1% of participants perceived their principal as frequently a transformational leader. Ironically, 100% of participants perceived their principal as sometimes a transactional leader. The research findings further indicated that overall, teachers at both levels perceived their principal as fairly often a transformational leader and sometimes a transactional leader. Based on the demographic findings, an ANOVA revealed statistically significant differences in teachers' perceptions of their principal's transformational leadership style based on years of experience. Participants with more years of experience perceived their principal with significantly higher mean scores than those with fewer years of experience. Recommendations include: (a) conducting further research to determine the impact that principals' leadership style have on student performance from a national perspective, (b) conducting a Longitudinal Research study to determine the impact that leadership styles have on student performance, and (c) exploring leadership styles extensively to identify the leadership traits exhibited by both public and private elementary school principals.

This book was released on 2020-08-28 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Leadership and Human Resource Management - Miscellaneous, course: Leadership and Governance, language: English, abstract: This study assesses the influence of the leadership attributes of the head of school on the students' academic performance in public and private secondary schools. An explanatory cross-sectional survey design with a concurrent mixed approach using both primary and secondary data was employed. A total of 202 teachers provided evidence on their heads of school's attributes in influencing students' academic performance using questionnaires, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The collected data was analysed using SPSS version 23 for quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative data. A significant relationship between integrity and the students' academic performance was revealed. However, inspirational attributes negatively correlated between students' academic performance. In addition, the results reveal that there was weak, positive and significant relationship between competency and academic performance. The study concluded that integrity and competency attributes significantly influence the students' academic performance, while inspiration negatively influences students' academic performance. Therefore, the study recommends the government to allocate enough funds to the professional development of the aspirant and to review the educational policy on the training and development of teachers before and after their appointment into a leadership position.

Book The Relationship Between Principal Leadership and Improving Achievement Status in Secondary Schools

Download or read book The Relationship Between Principal Leadership and Improving Achievement Status in Secondary Schools written by Anne Catherine Butcher and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For all that is revealed in the research literature identifying and describing traits and behaviors exhibited by principals who make a positive difference in student learning, many schools are still failing. With all we know, how does this continue to happen? The goal of this study was to develop theory to expand and enrich the existing research by defining and describing what three successful principals---a middle school and two junior high schools---did to turn their failing schools around and positively influence the levels of student achievement in their respective schools. The significant contribution this study adds to the field of educational research is its identification of five themes or categories of leadership implemented by the principal in each of the schools studied that were credited by the participants as causes for their schools' successful turnarounds. These five categories---expectations and accountability, leadership, responding to student needs, climate and culture, and instruction---and their indicators were consistently identified by the participants in all schools as reasons why their schools were successful in improving student performance levels and each school's achievement status. Clearly, the five categories were interrelated and interdependent upon each other and thus, equally critical to the success the schools experienced.

Book The Impact of Leadership Style on Student Achievement

Download or read book The Impact of Leadership Style on Student Achievement written by Sherry H. Dorathy and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this qualitative case study research was to investigate the existing degree of relationship between leadership styles and student achievement for principals in small, rural, southeast districts in Arizona. Student achievement was measured by fifth grade AIMS Mathematic scores over a two year period. Leadership style of the principals was measured by the MLQ-5X survey completed by eight participants (principals) and 102 raters (teachers). Interviews were conducted with a subset of the principals to gather more information in relation to their leadership style. Each leadership attribute was examined in relation to the student achievement on AIMS mathematics test for quantitative data analysis. The qualitative data analysis was performed with a word and phrase frequency counter to identify specific themes across the leadership style. Based on the findings of this study it is recommended that principals use the MLQ survey each school year to modify or enhance their leadership style by focusing professional development on strengthening leadership styles to establish commonality within district leadership to enhance student achievement. To expand on the results of this study, future research is recommended to include student SES, compare school districts to identify trends in school test scores to determine if district leadership impacts building leadership that has an indirect impact on student achievement, and include stakeholders in the MLQ survey to gain feedback.

Book Transformational Leadership

Download or read book Transformational Leadership written by Christie M. Petersen and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-07-08 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This qualitative study was designed to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of the principal in successfully improving English Language Learner (ELL) educational outcomes in high poverty schools. It is based on interviews with five elementary principals who were employed by Hillsboro School District during the SET-R grant from school years 2007-2010. Three questions guided this study. First, how do the principals promote or implement school culture expectations and best instructional practices in elementary schools with high ELL populations? Second, what level of general knowledge about leadership characteristics do the principals possess whose students performed well academically as measured by OAKS in elementary schools with high ELL populations? Third, what do the principals regard as an effective approaches to comprehensively serve ELL populations? This topic continues to be a concern for administrators given the persistent achievement gap between ELLs and their peers at the secondary level despite some gains in the primary grade levels.
