Book excerpt: To assume a leadership position in the market space, an organization will need to emphasize on the kind of programs they use to improvise performance and productivity and not just how much they simply spend on learning. Training needs identification, therefore it identifies the gap between what the job expects an employee to do, on the one hand, and what the employee is actually doing, on the other. The training needs analysis discovers whether there is a discrepancy between what an employee ought to be doing and what he or she can do. Learning is a continuous process, and even if employees are the best, they still need to refresh and renew themselves with the latest technologies and trends. After globalization and privatization, a lot of competition exists between banks -- both in public and private sector -- compelling quick and efficient services reinforced by innovative products and services. This development opened up the need for training to the bank employees to adapt to changes and contribute towards efficient service to customers. Banks also use training to improve the ability of their employees for customer satisfaction as a primary goal. Banks consider that giving emphasis on training is the best way to expand productivity. In connection with the above, the present paper aims to investigate the differential changes in public sector bank in their purposes of conducting training, basis for training needs identification and design and implementation of training programs. The study makes an effort to assess the training and development practices in a public sector bank (SBI) with special reference to its impact on employee effectiveness.

Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Leadership and Human Resources - Miscellaneous, grade: B, ( Atlantic International University ) (School of Business and Economics), course: Ph.D. Economics, language: English, abstract: The quality of Human Resource is an asset to any organization and as a result Training has become an issue that has to be faced by every organization. The amount, and quality of training carried out varies enormously from organization to organization due to factors such as the degree of external change, for instance, new markets or new processes, the adaptability of existing workforce and importantly the extent to which the organization supports the idea of internal career development. Most organizations meet their needs for training in an ad hoc and haphazard way whiles others set about identifying their training needs, then design training activities in a rational manner and finally assess the results of training. This study, therefore, sought to determine the impact of Training and Development on public sector organizations using Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA) as a case study. The study assessed the training and development process of GPHA and whether training has improved employee performance. A questionnaire was designed using structured questions to collect primary data from employees of GPHA. Personal interviews were held with some management staff of the organization. The results indicated that GPHA’s employees were not well informed about training and development programmes in the organization. Most of the employees were of the view that training and development were effective tools for both personal and organizational success. The findings revealed that training practices, methods and activities at GPHA are not in line with the best practices regarding the planned and systematic nature of the training process as is generally known. This book was released on 2019 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Training Need Assessment (TNA) is a process to identify the gap between current performance and the departmental objectives. It's a diagnostic tool that helps reducing the gap between employee skills and the skills required by the job. Effective training need assessment forms the basis or benchmark for determining the effectiveness of the training programs. This study aims at identifying the effectiveness of TNA practices of the private sector banks of Bangladesh. As the respondents are highly qualified and work directly in the HR and Training Departments of the banks, a sample size of 100 was deemed appropriate for this study. The respondent managers were chosen by using convenience sampling method. A structured questionnaire was developed to collect the pertinent information from the HR and Training Managers of 10 leading private sector banks of Bangladesh. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. Results show that the reasons for declining the performance of the bankers are directly concerned with the lack of positive attitude toward job, lack of motivation and dissatisfaction about the job. Results also show that only few need assessment techniques such as, management audit, interview customers and employees, written tests, assessment centre, survey, and individual development plans are used by the banks to assess the training needs in Bangladesh. This study also identified unavailability of training programs, location of training venue, lack of managerial support, capacity of the trainees, budget of the training, and the length of training programs are the most important hindrances for improving the effectiveness of the training programs of the banks. It is suggested that the effectiveness of TNA and training programs can be increased by improving training environment, managing organization, service quality, time management, leadership, and increase budgets of the training programs of the private sector banks in Bangladesh.

Book excerpt: The main purpose of this study is to find out how a training program can be evaluated from the perspectives of the employees. The literature reviewed highlighted that the effectiveness of a training program can be fairly measured by comparing pre-training expectations with post -training experience. It examines the effectiveness of a training program offered to 108 trainees of a leading private sector bank .The data was extracted from the employees through a questionnaire based on Kirkpatrick's model of training evaluation. A chi-square test revealed that the demographic variables are independent of the efficacy gap. A paired sample t- test was conducted and it has been concluded that the trainees did not find the program effective. The factor analysis indicates that the grouping of the variables into factors fairly matches with the Kirkpatrick's model of training evaluation with certain exceptions. Finally, a multiple regression analysis was conducted which revealed that the factors extracted in factor analysis are significant in explaining training effectiveness.

This book was released on 2016 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research paper investigates the impact of T&D program on the level of employees' organizational commitment and overall performances in the Banking sector of KPK by considering Bank of Khyber as a case study. Study aims to critically examine all three attributes of organizational commitment (affective, normative, and continuance commitment respectively) and its impact on the job satisfaction in banking sector of KPK, Pakistan. The notions of Guest et.al, (2003) and Wall & Wood (2005) are taken as a foundation to explore the linkage between organisational commitment and T&D program, however both these studies had not investigated all three attributes in equal manner. The focus of these previous studies were more on affective and continuance commitment and did not investigate the causes and consequences that make these attributes to create an impact on the overall performances. Thus this study is significant because it attempts to explain in exploratory manner the reasons behind impact created by training. Inductive approach in a cross-sectional design following interpretive research philosophy research is carried out. The bank of Khyber, KPK is case study selected with 15 regional and branch managers as participants for interviews and 277 employees participated in the survey questionnaire, selected through stratified, convenience, and random sampling technique. Results of present study indicates that to retain skilled workforce, organization has to work on their continuance commitment by offering them promotion and salary increment because these are two factors that enable firms to retain skilled workers. Training increases employees' affective and normative commitment more in general as compare to continuance commitment. This paper contributes to the field of management and administrative sciences by investigating the relationship between T&D program and employees' performance and organisational commitment by exploring workforce and management's perspective through financial institution. It adds to the managerial literature related to T&D in relation with organisational commitment and overall performance in developing country's context.
