Book Premarital Prediction of Marital Quality or Breakup

Download or read book Premarital Prediction of Marital Quality or Breakup written by Thomas B. Holman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-16 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book should be of interest to scholars, researchers, students, and practitioners alike. Scholars, researchers, and students of personal relationship development will recognize in this book the first serious attempt in over 40 years to do a large-scale, longitudinal study of premarital factors that predict premarital breakup and marital quality; they should also appreciate our attempt to develop a theoretical rationale for predicted paths and to test those paths with the best available statistical tools. Practitioners-while generally not as interested in the intricacies of the statistical results-will find much that is useful to them as they help individuals and couples make decisions about their intimate relationships, their readiness for marriage, and how to increase the probability for marital success. Teachers, family life educators, premarital counselors, and clergy will find helpful our “principles for practice,” particularly as described in Chapter 9, as they teach and counsel couples in any premarital situation. My interest in the development of relationships from premarital to marital probably began when I got married in 1972 and started to notice all of the characteristics my wife and I brought from our respective families and how our “new beginning” as a married couple was in many ways the continuation of our premarital relationship, only more refined and more intense. My professional interest began when I did my doctoral dissertation in 198 1 on premarital predictors of early marital satisfaction (the results of that study are reported in Chapter 8).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Journey to Oneness has helped thousands of premarital and married couples to develop, enrich and experience vibrant relationships. Hundreds of crisis couples have reconciled their marriages using the Journey to Oneness Model. What Should You Expect from the Journey to Oneness? The Journey to Oneness shows how relationships transition from individualism towards interdependence and a shared identity. Couples will discover that intimacy and commitment increase as they progress from one stage to the next. Premarital couples will find that the Journey to Oneness empowers them to establish healthy boundaries that promote mutuality in friendships and validation of each others values. Dating couples are responsible to encourage each others pursuit of their dreams and goals. Couples in the friendship/ dating stage are not a "we" but two friends who are learning to have each others best interest in mind. Married couples will be revisiting or reinvesting in one or more of the stages of the Journey to Oneness that are underdeveloped in order to cultivate the characteristics of friendship or shared values in their relationship. At times, couples will prioritize their parenting responsibilities, careers or hobbies above their friendship with each other. When this happens, couples feel disconnected, even though they are committed to their marriage and family life. Couples will be able to rekindle their friendship by reinvesting in areas of communication, conflict resolution or sexual intimacy. The Journey to Oneness offers resources and practical application that allow couples to establish the foundations of friendship and shared values. For some couples, values were underdeveloped while others began their marriage without a strong friendship. How to Use Journey to Oneness Throughout this book, you will read the stories of premarital and married couples who are addressing topics such as communication, conflict resolution, financial management or marital crisis. These stories represent real-life circumstances that will help couples to learn new ways of communicating and resolving conflict. Journey to Oneness can be used individually or in group settings by premarital or married couples. The first half of the book will enrich friendship and shared values in premarital and marriage relationships. The second half of the book reveals how to restore broken trust and reconcile crisis relationships. In order to enrich couple satisfaction in dating, engaged and marriage relationships, Life In Motion Resources(tm) is offering a free Relationships Growth Plan for my readers. Explore a life-changing manual that reveals the principles for developing enduring connections. Find the recipe for developing a relationship that transcends trials and the test of time in "9 Irrefutable Principles of Dating Before Marriage." This book is a beacon of knowledge in a world full of weak love and shallow bonds. Combining expert guidance with personal experiences, it provides a road map for negotiating the nuances of contemporary dating and lays the groundwork for a happy and long-lasting relationship The author, NEO NELSON, gives a fresh viewpoint that challenges traditional dating patterns by building on years of experience and research. With candid talks about compatibility, overcoming arguments, and acknowledging emotional needs, "9 Irrefutable Principles of Dating Before Marriage" teaches readers the skills they need to develop a relationship that will last a lifetime. It dispels myths about love and gives readers the confidence to approach relationships with clarity, purpose, and unwavering passion. There is only a fraction of the innumerable advantages of sticking to the nine undeniable rules of dating before marriage: First of all, these rules establish a structure that helps partners clarify and comprehend one another's expectations, values, and opinions. Couples can measure their compatibility by discussing crucial concerns, including economics, communication styles, and future ambitions. This helps to guarantee that they have similar life goals. Second, following these standards fosters direct and honest communication. In order to gain a stronger knowledge of one another, couples can freely share their wants, anxieties, and desires. Additionally, this practice promotes empathy and active listening abilities, all of which are crucial for maintaining a strong connection. Furthermore, these standards typically incorporate advice for settling problems. Couples that employ respectful and constructive dispute-resolution tactics become more effective at resolving conflicts and keep little difficulties from escalating into significant problems that undermine their relationship over time. Ultimately, abiding by these rules is a proactive technique to avert problems in the future. Couples can prevent more major disputes by discussing probable difficulties early on, laying the groundwork for a solid, long-lasting partnership. These standards create mutual respect, growth, and understanding in relationships. They laid the groundwork for a robust, permanent bond that withstands hardships and encourages fruitful collaboration. The first step towards a healthy, long-lasting relationship is acknowledging the irrefutable wisdom of premarital dating guidelines. Why get into a lifetime partnership before getting to know each other's genuine identities, aspirations, and desires? Premarital dating is more than just spending time together; it's about creating a relationship built on trust, respect, and true connection. By following these ageless standards, you give yourself the chance to:

Book The Critical First Years of Marriage

Download or read book The Critical First Years of Marriage written by Bree A. Adams and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper explores the critical first years of marriage, examines obstacles that arise for couples during that time, and provides tools for couples to successfully navigate them. The first years of marriage are an essential phase in the developmental course of marriage, as it is in these early years that couples set their relational patterns. -- Approximately one-third of all new marriages eventually end in divorce, and thus the need for marital support is vital. However, few married couples seek marital therapy and the majority wait until after six years of marriage when serious relational problems and patterns have already developed. There is a great need in the field of psychology to increase marital help-seeking behavior and supportive interventions offered for married couples in the early years of marriage. Encouraging couples to receive marital interventions in the early years of marriage can aid in reducing the likelihood of harmful patterns. Although premarital preparation is becoming a more common resource for the transition to marriage, limitations of premarital preparation still arise. This is due in part to the fact that many facets in the relationship change after marriage that couples were unaware of during the dating relationship. Encouraging couples to receive therapy in the first years of their marriage would help them utilize healthy skills when the patterns are developing. Extending premarital therapy to the first year of marriage can be a helpful avenue for couples to obtain the necessary tools once they are actually in the marriage.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines how religious leaders use premarital counseling to influence how we view intimacy It is well-known that the institution of marriage has changed dramatically in the past few decades. However, very little research has focused on the role of religious institutions in helping couples form and maintain their relationships. Guiding God’s Marriage offers an examination of Christian marriage preparation programs, exploring their efforts to stabilize the institution of marriage and highlighting the tension between individualism and community in people’s relational lives. Marriage preparation programs offer a useful lens through which to trace shifts in both religious and family institutions because they set out clear and intentional articulations of marriage ideologies and gendered relationship scripts by faith communities. By documenting the changes in content and practices of Christian premarital education along with its advice regarding what makes a good marriage, the book charts the ways that religious communities have been transformed by and have helped to contribute to the individualization of faith and relationships. Featuring archival research as well as first hand observations of four marriage preparation courses—two Protestant and two Catholic—along with seventy interviews with participating couples and leaders of these and other programs, the book offers a rare view of visions about how to realize a successful and faith-filled relationship. This examination of marriage classes offers key insight into how religious communities have responded to cultural changes in marriage, gender, sexuality, and intimacy.
