Book Understanding the Doctrine of the Trinity

Download or read book Understanding the Doctrine of the Trinity written by John Weekes and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-04-29 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In writing this book, I was mindful of the many areas of conflict that exist between Christian and Christian, Christian and Jew, Christian and Jehovah Witness, Members of The Church of Latter Day Saints and others. The purpose was to examine critically, some of the main areas of conflict, and measure them against what the bible has to say concerning the Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and to arrive at a reasonable, honest and dispassionate conclusion. One very clear and positive way was to show that Jesus, that great and unusual man of history, was indeed a man from heaven and is in fact God incarnate. Even those who have not accepted Jesus as God or equal with God, must admit that he was like no other. He was born in a lowly stable and died a convicted felon. Yet the world in short order turned to him. Even the mighty Roman Empire which initially haunted and crucified, hanged and hounded Christians, eventually turned to Him and acknowledged Him. The evidence, then, is that Jesus is someone special. The Jewish ruler Nichodemus acknowledged he was from God. It follows, therefore, that if Jesus was from God, then it is reasonable to accept that he was a person of truth and integrity. Yet Jesus said he was God. God seems to have been well pleased with Jesus. Is it not reasonable, therefore, to accept Jesus at His word? Commonsense and logic answers a resounding Yes!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some trinitarians explain the Trinity doctrine by reference to the three main colors united in one rainbow. Others explain how the understanding, the conscience, and the will blending together in one man illustrate the Trinity. Still others compare the Trinity to three lit candles in one room blending into one light. None of these illustrations satisfactorily offer an analogy of how three distinct almighty and eternal beings make one almighty and eternal being. The absolute uni-personality of God is the first principle of the Jewish Scriptures and the New Testament. Trinitarian Christians do not deny that there is one God, but differ as to the absolute unity of God. They speak of the Godhead as a Trinity composed of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Trinitarianism maintains that the term God includes not only the Father, but Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Yet, even the New Testament shows that Jesus was a person as distinct from God as the disciples were distinct from him.

This book was released on 2008-11-12 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an unedited reprint of: In A Discourse In Vindication of the Doctrine of the Trinity: with an Answer to the late Socinian Objections against it from Scripture, Antiquity and Reason. And a Preface concerning the different Explications of the Trinity, and the Tendency of the present Socinian Controversie.(1697) Stillingfleet (1635-1699) here enters a controversy that had begun in 1687 with the publication of Stephen Nye's A Brief History of the Unitarians, and had been stoked by many later controversial pamphlets and books, including The Faith of the One God, published by Thomas Firmin. (Available here.) Stillingfleet defends traditional formulas about the Trinity from unitarians' charges of contradiction and poor fit with the Bible and early Christian tradition. Book excerpt: Most Churches teach that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are equal beings and somehow, the same God. They themselves admit, “It is a mystery beyond our comprehension.” Still however, they want us as followers, to accept this belief with faith despite the fact they cannot explain it. Because of this and the lack of support from the scriptures, do we not have every right to question it? Do the scriptures show there is a three in one God? Jesus said at John 6: 38 (NIV, bolding added for emphasis) “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” This scripture describes two wills. If there are two wills, then there must be two beings. If one sends the other, then one is evidently in charge which means they cannot be the same or equal. Many other scriptures concur, such as 1 Corinthians 11: 3 (NIV) that reads, “... the head of Christ, is God.” The book highlights the scriptures used for support of this doctrine and includes the contexts that surround those same verses to show that the Bible does not teach a triune type of God anywhere. This book offers over one hundred scriptures that combine to prove the falseness of the teaching of the Trinity. Besides more than enough scriptural evidence, the book also brings into focus how other Bible versions render those same “Trinity” scriptures and dives into the history of this doctrine. When these things are all exposed, the Trinity fails to deliver as truth.
